The other butt has no writing. The tip section is broken at the first guide after the tip top. It has a ferrule and guides on it. These came from the estate of Jeffery Godfrey. This is a very collectable and desirable origional Lee Wulf Ultimate 1 pc 5 foot 10 and one quarter inch. 1 and 5/8 oz ultra light impregnated bamboo fly rod made by Farrlows of Scotland for mr. Lee Wulf I am a cane rod builder and I bought three of these rods in the late 90s souly for the purpose of collecting and having these rods on hand to mic the different stations. This one pc rod is one of my favorites and was one of Mr. Wulfs favorites. You can see this rod in action on his DVDs here on sale on E Bay where it shows him landing three Canadian brooke trout at one time totaling over twenty pounds total weight. This is the last of the three I have and im selling it because I no longer need it in my shop and i need the room. This rod was purchased from a small fly fishing museaum out of Nova Scotia when it closed. Classic Montague Rapidan 9' Bamboo Fly Fishing Rod 3/2
This is an interesting rod. All sections are straight and the proper length. The Montague Rapidan decal is about 50% This has a wood spacer on the downlocking slide band reel seat. Not typical of Rapidans. The guides and tip tops are all new,nicely wrapped in gold with black tipping. The stripper guide has an artificial agate insert. The tip tops are two different styles. The male ferrules show considerable wear and are not particularly tight The varnish is very good, obviously redone when the guides were replaced. Overall this rod is very good cosmetically, should fish well with some slight adjustment to the ferrules. Comes with a non-original cloth bag.

Rod was recently made up by me from a Horrocks and Ibbotson Co. bamboo fly rod blank which was one of many that I bought about 20 years ago.There is very little mark up on my rods as rod building has been my retirement hobby for over 25 years and takes up much of my spare time and has given me much pride in my finished product and happiness in doing something I love during my senior years. Materials and hardware used to construct this rod are top quality and mostly old/new stock. vintage kingfisher 3 piece bamboo fly rod. 88 inches in length, cork grip, reel seat looks good, rod looks good i didnt find any splits or cracks, 1 guide is missing on first section, rod flex's smoothly does need a cleaning i would do it but im sure there is a proper way of doing it so ill leave that to the new owner, label is missing birds tail. im not an expert on bamboo fly rods but in looking this one over i would say it is in nice condition doesnt look or feel brittle and bends with ease other than a little cosmetic tlc id say it would make you a fine rod, if you need any other information ill be glad to help.

This auction is for a Vintage Heddon Bamboo Fly Rod#10 with a Mark IV Reel. The rod is in good shape. With a little varnish wear and cracking(see pictures) and a few light scratches. The reel has some tarnish and wear but looks good. I am not sure what the weight is for this rod, but I am assuming light to medium weight. It's a great collector's item or great for fishing! Here's this quite rare Leonard rod, identified as most likely being made circa 1910-20 for export to the English market. I found info proving that Farlow's imported Leonards at that time. As we know, since E.G.M. Skues had introduced them, they had quite a following in the UK. Hence the tips an inch shorter, as seen on the vast majority of British cane rods, and the bridged agate lined tip tops. To be noted and certainly good evidence that the tips are not short and repaired is the fact that butt and mid sections are ½ inch longer than they would be for a 9 ½ foot rod(38 ½ inches instead of 38) And so the rod is exactly the correct length when assembled: f ull 9 ½‘ length(114” A hole in the butt cap w ould ... moresuggest a bank spike. Also common on the old English rods, was provided at the time. I bought it from a chap in Germany, a while back. Everything about it looks entirely original to me. Not restored or repaired. At the most, a maintenance coat of varnish might have been applied to one tip. Vintage 1910 FE Thomas, Bangor, Me. Dirigo Bamboo Trout Fly Rod, Two tips, 9 1/2
Search This is a vintage Thomas fly rod. Made in bangor maine. This rod has two tips, each with a different style end on it, Im guessing its a wet fly and dry fly tip but not sure. All four pieces are straight and true with no bends. One tip is about 5/16 of an inch shorter than the other but one of the metal tips is 3/16 of an inch longer than the other, being a different style, so that accounts for part of the difference in length-the tips appear to have never been broken or repaired. Butt section is 38 8/16 long, center section is 38 8/16 long, one tip is 38 7/16 and the other is 38 2/16 long. The rod appears to be complete and is marked Dirigo FE Thomas Bangor Me on the reel seat. Reel seat appears to be nickle plated and has what I think is called a rolled soldered slide bar. I did some research but correct me if Im mistaken about names/details ... moreof this item. I was told and believe that the finish on the rod is the original varnish. The butt section and center section need to have the line guides rewrapped as they have been attached in a very sloppy manner, as shown in the pics. The two tips look to be in great shape however with all the guides securely attached. The rod measures 114 1/2 inches( 9 1/2 feet) when assembled but I did not really"jam" the sections together for fear of not being able to get them apart again. I believe the cork grip is referred to as sheet wrapped. Two tips come in a round bamboo storage case with a screw on cap. Bamboo case fits into the original canvas rod sack along with the butt and center sections. Canvas case is marked with the name LAWRENCE, I assume the original owner but dont know. This is a great rod but does need some repair work. I am not an expert on fly rods and got most of the info off the internet so please ask questions if you have any. History: This rod was given to me by my grandpa. He was a big vintage fly rod and reel collector and passed away. I never really got into fly fishing. So this beautiful rod has been sitting quietly in a closet not getting used. All the information I have on this rod is mostly what I was able to find online. If you know more about this rod than I do please feel free to send me any info on it. Sewell N. Dunton& Son. Inc. is not the best known rod maker, but their work commands fairly high dollar amounts among historic fishing gear collectors. The genealogy of Sewell N. Dunton& Sons Inc. were with L.L. and Eugene Bartlett of Pelham. Massachusetts in 1857. L.L. left his brother's business in 1882 and in 1885 formed the Montague City Rod Company. They bought out several other rod making plants including Chubb and Malleson Rod and Reel ... moreand then had 4 plants in operation making rods by the 1930's. This became Montague Rod and Reel owned by Bruce Pirnie who bought out the original owners' heirs. Montague went through several ownership changes until 1955 when they went out of business and sold all their stock and machinery to Sewell N. Dunton. Dunton continued to use the mills from the original Montague Mills until 1974. When he sold the equipment to Thomas Dorsey and Thomas Maxwell, who formed Thomas and Thomas. Has its rod bag and tube(cap on tube has a dent and wont come off, so both cap and threads slide off tube) also in good condition. Here's a very nice South Bend Bamboo Fly Rod. This rod has seen very little use. I cleaned and polished it, its almost like new see pictures. It has whats left of the original price tag on the cork handle, I'll let the new owner remove it or leave it, see pictures. Every model#24 I've seen have been Bass Rod's HCH(7) wt. this is a HDH(6) wt. and for sure a trout-light ... morebass action. I have not fished this rod but have lawn cast it, it casts a HDH(6) as well as any I've cast and lays a line really well. 1940's Japanese Urushi Finish Bamboo Fishing Rod. 5 piece rod, 15 Ft. long. comes w/ metal rod holder. U.S. Shipping Only ~ Shipping/Ins.Handling is $14.95 The 3 month varnish process or(Urushi lacquer finish) comes from the ancient Natural Varnish Tree"Rhus verniciflua" It dates back to 7000 B.C. and has been used on most of Japan's priceless wood art work over thousands of years. Concerning the lacquer. When fully cured it's stronger than urethane. It creates a very tough membrane on the surface of the bamboo. Because it is very thin, no cracking occurs when the bamboo bends. Restored Split Bamboo Fly Rod 3/1-8' 6"- 5 wt
This is a newly restored split bamboo fly rod in three piece with single tip eight and a half foot long in five weight. We don't know the original maker but by the ferrules its was high end. The ferrules are all nickle silver and pop nicely the cane is lightly flammed. We replaced the cork and reelseat with a nickle silver twin ring on a maple wood insert and a full well cork grip in"A" grade.We used blued line guides and tip top the stripper is chrome and the hookeeper is silver ring type. The cane is finished with three coats of spar varnish and is wrapped in brown silk. We lawn cast the rod and suggest five weight DT line the action is medium fast.

This 5 piece rod includes cork handle rod. Extension rod and 3 tips to provided different lengths and weight of line. The labeling is partially missing, but the NIPPON is visible on the handle piece. Some of the coating on the rod is worn away and missing. The rod tips are good and clean with no pitting. Accessories include a reel which is pitted and dirty and has old line; spinning lures; a fly labeled Black Gnat- S. Allcock and Co. Redditch, Eng. Pflueger Split Shot in metal can; BB shot in wooden container and the box. Box is dented. The sliding covers are included but not in slides. Vintage 5 piece bamboo fly rod spin rod combo Pat aug 22, 1905 (Montague)
Search This is a vintage combo fly and spin rod. I was told that this is made by Montague but there is no name on it. Only the pat date of aug 22, 1905. I think this is called a reversing handle rod but not sure. The pieces appear to be the proper lengths but all the guides are missing. The finish on the metal parts need to be cleaned and polished so they will fit together as they do not fit together as they now are. When the pieces are laid out on the floor the fly rod sections appear to be about 100 inches long and the spinning or casting rod appear to be 74 inches. I am guessing about how they all fit together but I really dont know. This rod needs a lot of work but the bamboo looks to be in good shape so maybe could be used for parts if you need them. This rod was bought in Japan in 1955. This is a one family owned piece. It is a Type C-A Made by Harisho Uedo Co. Ltd. Tokyo. Japan. Five pieces, main rod and two extra tips. 8 feet. The box needs repair at the hinges, they are there, but coming loose. The main rod is missing the connector coupling at the tip and one tip is missing a guide and has one guide loose(in box) This has been stored in a garage for 40 years and I believe would be a wonderful collector piece with some tlc, which I do not know how to do.I have priced this at what I think is a fair price for the condition, using other Ebay rods as a guide. Vintage 3 piece Vernley Impregnated Tonkin bamboo fly rod.Each section measures 36 3/4"when it's assembled it's 9' long, the top section looks a little bowed, the second section is missing the first guide and has possibly been restored because the wrap is a different color(black not red like the rest)Also the second and third guides have black wraps,the top section second guide up also has black wrap, just above the handle it reads'Vernley' and when the rod is turned around on the other side it reads'Impregnated TONKIN CA.can't make out what the rest of the word is on this)please if there's someone out there that is familiar with this rod let me know,thanks in advance.It has a greyish color reel seat(bakelite or some kind of plastic maybe) with a large ring to mount a reel, metal ferrules,6" cork ... morehandle(great condition) no chips or cracks,bamboo is in great condition. Jay harvey 4 piece bamboo fly rod
This is a Jay Harvey 3 piece bamboo fly rod in very good condition and has two different ends for a total of 4 pieces. The two ends look to be exactly the same. All pieces fit tightly together with no bends or warping.The first and second sections have a total of eight wrapped red string areas. Two of these areas are not unraveled at all. The other 5 have either started or are undone a few inches. The cork handle has one 1/4" nick in it. There is a round thing that slides up and down over the area with the Jay Harvey written on it. I don't know what that thing is.All of the little"eyes" that the string goes through are in good condition with not bends or breaks. The two ends pieces are stored in a cloth inside the aluminum? casing.Each of the two end pieces have 5 wrapped areas that look reddish brown that are covered with ... moresomething shiney. I am supposing it is what holds the string in place. One end has one of these areas that has a piece unraveling. The other end has two of the wrappings starting to unravel.The tan cloth 3 section carry case has several small holes and one larger at the end where the case with the end pieces go. It's my pleasure to offer at auction a Very Nice and Quite Scarce CIRCA 1902 GEORGE VARNEY 9 FT. 3/2 SPLIT BAMBOO BAIT ROD WITH THE ORIGINAL CUSTOM BAG& BAMBOO TIP TUBE. These early rods from legendary rodmaker George Varney seldom come up for sale. Varney would become one of the industry's most influencial and well-traveled men, working for such companies as H.L. Leonard Rod Co. and Montague City Rod Co. as well as running his own rodmaking business with his brother(Varney Bros. Rod Co. for about 6 years during the 1890's. Early in the 20th century, he organized and set up the rodmaking departments at both James Heddon& Sons and the William Shakespeare Jr. Co. Starting around 1900 at Montague City, Varney would run the rodmaking division while at the same time building and marketing his own line of rods. This is an example ... moreof one of those rods. Either built as or offered later as a"presentation" rod, with"Dr. E.J. Keffer- 1902- Philada. nicely engraved on the reel seat hood. Little could be found researching Dr. Keffer, other than the fact that he lived and practiced from 1513 Walnut St. Philadelphia in November of 1897. The reel seat is clearly stamped"George I. Varney, Maker- Montague City, Mass. The female butt ferrule is stamped"PAT. MAR.4.90" the 1890 patent assigned to Varney for the improved ferrule design. Built in 6-strip construction with high-quality Calcutta cane and comes equipped with a nicely swelled butt, extra tip section, genuine agate bridged barrel-style stripping guide, 11) trumpet guides, early style-H agate tip tops, Varney's high-grade serrated ferrules, unusual"waisted" buttcap, classic Varney delicately-knurled sliding band reel seat, solid cork grip and very closely wound in red silk with black trim. Hi! For sale we offer this primitive. Antique bamboo fishing rod. This is a 6 foot model that is made of two pieces connected by a metal sleeve. 6 sided bamboo construction. Metal reel attachment. Bottom handle is turned wood with wood end finial(similar to the way Horrocks rods were made) This rod has one odd quality. The eyes are on the top and bottom of it. Please see photos. I have been fishing most of my life and have never had a rod like this one. Maybe I have lived a sheltered life. The letter N is carved just above the finial end. This is most likely a hand made labor of love. Not a mass produced item. 6ft. 2 pc. Please understand. This is a v ery old rod. It has been enjoyed and enjoyed. It is primitive in condition and in my opinion looks great. It has rubs and bumps and oxidized metal. One of the areas of wrap is missing(about ... more1 inch long. Cork grip with cork and bakelite reel seat. A rare collectible fly rod. Beautiful casting rod. Complete structural integrity. Rod was partially restored for me by Mike Patterson of Dallas about five years ago. Cloth rod cover was made by Dana Gray. Original tube.

Classic M&H Sporting Goods 8 1/2' Bamboo Fly Rod by Heddon 3/2 With Cloth Bag
This rod is in decent condition. Could use a little TLC. It is M&H Special No. 512F by Heddon. M&H was a Philadelphia sporting goods retailer. One tip section has a replacement tip top and is about 1/4" short. All other sections are full length. Both tip sections have a noticeable fishing set-see pictures. There is a missing snake guide on the short tip section, also one on the mid section. The butt section has an agate stripper guide. The pyralin reel seat has a downlocking screw lock feature. The downlocking ring is marked"PAT. NO.1624052" which patent was issued to Heddon in 1927. There is some varnish roughness, typical of many Heddon rods, should polish out. The ferrules are"popping" tight. I"m in Philadelphia and I think that this is the first Heddon M&H rod that I have seen. It comes in what ... morelooks like its original cloth bag, no tube.

Well here is a collector’s item for sure. It’s an original Paul H. Young Bobby Doer bamboo fly rod. It was originally purchased without guides and finish. Although the guide locations were marked by Paul Young. It was then finished in 1955 using what was then the big thing, foul-proof guides, using thread also purchased from Paul Young. The second tip was never completed and is still new unfinished as it left Detroit. Even the guide placing marks are on the unused tip. It has a little wear on the cork about where the thumb would be placed and a hole in the bag. Sections are straight. Tube and bag are original also. Honestly this is not an easy one to give up; I don’t think there were a whole lot of these made. If you would like more pictures. Or have any questions email me. Antique handmade Montigue split bamboo fly fishing rod made of genuine tonkin cane. 8-1/2' long.3 peice rod,4pcs. total, 6 sides. Pickard Bamboo Fly Rod 704 2/2 "Special"
Pickard 704. 2/2 bamboo fly rod. 7’ long. 2 piece, 4 weight rod. Full length, all original. Excellent condition in original rod and tube. The rod maker John Pickard, told me it was made from pre embargo cane as well. It has Nickel silver ferrules and has nice crisp pop sound when disassembled. It casts a 4 weight like a dream and is an awesome bamboo fly rod with a great powerful casting action for a four weight. A real blast to catch fish with. I had used it in Michigan for trout and caught suburban bluegill and crappie with it around the neighborhood. Rod is“special” as grip has a standard wells shape at top of grip for thumb vs. tapering grip down in front. I found it great for better control and more comfortable. Great bamboo rod from a leading contemporary bamboo rod craftsman. His rods are now listed at $1850 new on his web site.

Phillipson 8-0 Premium 3/2 bamboo fly rod with hammer handle grip in very good condition. Cork is firm and smooth. Some cork missing from base of grip. All sections are straight and 32.5" Writing on flats is"Phillipson Premium. 8' 4 1/4- HDH. Ferrule fit is snug. Finish is bright and hard. This rod casts dries beautifully from#6 Hoppers to#20 BWOs. Good Day. This auction is for a nice vintage bamboo fly fishing rod. This rod has no marking except for a name"H.W. Clapp Ordway Colo. That's all it has for markings. I don't believe this was a Clapp& Trait rod maker so I'm a bit confused to it's origins. Either way it is a nice rod and could turn out to be something good. Oh yeah this rod comes with 4 pieces, the three main section and an extra tip section which is slightly larger than the other tip, also the sleeve and a tube and also all ferrules are nice and snug. 1920-1927 MONTAGUE #163 "Avon" 9', 3/2 Split Bamboo Fly Rod With ORIGINAL Felt-
Up for auction a Very Nice and rather uncommon 1920-1927 MONTAGUE CITY ROD CO. NO.163"AVON" 9 FT. 3/2 SPLIT BAMBOO FLY ROD WITH THE ORIGINAL WOOD FORM HOLDER& LABELED BAG. This is the first"Avon" model I've ever heard of, but it would have been just one in a multitude of different"trade" rods built by the Montague City Rod Co. during the first quarter of the last century. It would have been sold through any number of hardware, sporting good or department stores across the country. This is a very well-made rod of quality bamboo, higher-grade cork, nicely ornamented components and was closely wound, with no less than 127 individual wraps. It would have at least been toward the upper middle end of Montague's lineup, in terms of quality. AVON" is boldly stamped into the back of the reel seat. Built ... morewith high-grade Calcutta cane and comes equipped with extra tip section, 13) snake guides(including the stripper) one orange agate tip top and one of steel, Montague nickel silver ferrules, flip-ring hook keeper, knurled winding check, sliding band Montague/Chubb reel seat, tapered solid cork grip and wound entirely in maroon silk. Rod is in solid Fine to Very Fine condition for these, showing only moderate wear. Bamboo is perfect, with no splits, cracks or delamination whatsoever. All four sections are the correct equal length and are reasonably straight. Varnish is new and in pristine condition. All wraps are solid and complete. All guides, tip tops, ferrules, hook keeper and winding check are in very good condition. Reel seat works perfectly, shows a few tiny dings, but remains quite nice overall. The solid cork grip is in good shape. Put up in the original felt-covered wood form holder, It shows overall wear but remains very solid and serviceable. All goes into the original bag, which still carries about a 90% complete paper label. It too shows wear, but remains in good shape.
