The thread is very fine and the detail is tiny! Very nice lace work. Professionally framed with custom matte. There is a piece of metal from a picture hanger(or something like that) that is on the matte. I didn't want to remove the back to get it out. It is 20 1/2" wide by 11 1/2" tall. NO RESERVE! Amazing Antique Log Cabin Quilt Bobbin Lace 1870's 4140 pieces over 50 fabrics
Log Cabin Summer Quilt What an amazing piece of history. Great find showing many different fabrics, mostly velvets, suede, and silks. I counted over 50 fabrics and estimate about 75 total. Made of about 4400 pieces total. The edge is 3 1/2" bobbin lace with gold thread and is mostly in tact with a few areas that have come apart. The back is a rare fabric with a golden dragon pattern, with graceful sweeping scrolling lines. This quilt is very vibrant and bright in color with skillful contrasting between rich reds, golds, creams, browns and vibrant blues, to name a few. The square pattern is based on 3" squares, 460 of them, made of 9 smaller pieces 4140 of them. The center of each square is made of 3)5/8" pieces framed by 2 and 1 1/2 pieces, framed by 2) 3" pieces. Because some of these pieces are thin silk pieces probably ... moreribbons they wore through. The lace in the center of each side has loose undone threads. Something to do with being folded I guess maybe was folded and got rubbed on that corner a lot. It is very clean and not musty. 60" x 69" not including lace. Guaranteed very old. Mid to late 1800's. 2698-08 ~ Up for auction is a very interesting Eskimo arifact used in making and the repairing of nets. This great wooden item has an excellent age patina and measures 1" wide by 6" long. This artifact was found in a group of unrelated objects of an old antique dealer who had passed away and was found by his son while cleaning out his estate. The artifact comes with copies of some pages describing similar objects from the book"Indian and Eskimo Artifacts of North America" by Charles Miles.
