Orvis Battenkill 8/9 Fly Reel Made in England Extra Spool and lines
This is an Orvis fly reel for 8 and 9 weight lines. The reel was made in England and comes with a weight forward 9 weight line. I used it for saltwater fishing mostly. It is in great used condition. The reel is sold with a padded cordura and foam case as well as an extra spool also with a line. Not sure what type. The extra spool comes with an Orvis pouch. I have revised this listing to better describe/show this item, so if you have previously put this item on your watch list, please check for all revisions) This reel has been well maintained and cared for. All of the mechanical and functional aspects are in very good condition and the reel feels and sounds very smooth. There are no bent or warped parts. There are some abrasions and scratches on this item(as shown in pictures) Someone has scratched their initials(NFM" NFFM" and what looks like"VIFF" into 3 interior sections on the reel(not visible when reel is operationally assembled) and 2 exterior areas(where it is mostly visible under the right light) Please refer ... moreto the pictures(I have documented these 5 areas) The black paint on the interior of the spool is worn and there are several scratches including one of the initialed areas(refer to photo) The top of the drag adjustment knob has 2 small nicks. The other 2 interior areas where the initials occur are approximately 1 inch from the exposed bearings on both sides of the body of the reel. The interior spool side is where it appears to have the"VIFF" There is also the outline of what appears to be some sticker that has fallen off(located next to the exposed bearings in photo) The final areas are on the exterior front and back face of the reel and I did not notice them until I had the reel under the perfect light(I owned this reel for years without seeing this) Also. There is an abrasion on the frame at the bottom of the reel(next to the bottom post) If you are considering buying this reel then you are most likely a serious angler and or collector so please study ALL pictures very closely with the zoom function. This size is actually referred to as the"Houghton" Dry Fly reel made for the elite Houghton Fishing Club who's members included Royals and Aristocrats sporting trout on the famed Thames River. England during the early 1890's. The reel is in near excellent but uncleaned condition as pictured, with no cracks anywhere. A hardly used brass fly reel with the original finish. It is 2 1/2" diameter. And the spool is 1" wide. It weighs 6.3 oz. and will balance a 7 1/2' bamboo fly rod, and looks very graceful. You are bidding on one vintage Copy of a EXPERT No. 22 Fly Reel. There are no markings on the reel as to manufacturer. This reel has nickel or possibly cadmium plated brass construction. The plating is in fair condition with no polished surfaces. It could be other than nickel(see photos) There is a rear frame clicker with a slide button on/off control. The clicker engages, but is weak. It is in working condition. The handle has a plastic or hard rubber knob. The reel measures 3-1/8" diameter, 2-3/4" deep including the handle, and has a foot measuring 2-11/16" long by 5/8" wide. It weighs 10.4 ounces, with packaging it will ship below 1 pound. Up for auction is this gently used. Vintage 1960's Martin 65 single-action fly reel on an 8 ½-foot South Bend Black Beauty fly rod. The reel is Made in USA(Mohawk. NY) in very good condition. No signs of rust or corrosion anywhere. Just needs a little cleaning. I do see a couple of very light scratches on the black side of the reel but hardly noticeable. The fly rod is also in very good condition. I don't see a mark on it. Eyes are pristine. It's a“South Bend Black Beauty. 3685, medium action, graphite composite, 6/7 line weight. It does have a small yellow fly on the end of the line which I haven't bothered to remove. Here is a decent condition. Used, Ross Gunnison 2 fly fishing reel. This is for 4, 5, and 6 weight lines. The capacities can be found on the Ross website. This is a post 1998 manufacture and style. There are light scratches around the edges, but overall it's not all that bad. No real damage other than cosmetics. I tried to take pics of all the scratches. Foot is fine. Drag works and tightens/loosens progressively. It is stored with the drag released. Currently set up for left hand retrieve, but is easily converted to right had retrieve if you so desire. There is no backing, no line, no case, no pouch, just the reel. Great reel to use and not feel bad about laying down ... moreon a rock or stream side. Payment and shipping terms: Paypal only.
