Up for auction is this Monogram fly tying kit that was purchased at Abercrombie& Fitch in New York. Not sure of the date. But a booklet in the kit is copyrighted 1945. The kit contains the bench vise, bobbin needle, fly wax, pliers, scissors, tweezers, eye screws, fish hooks, hackle gage, instructions, and a shoe box full of feathers, yarn, thread, and a small box of over half a dozen completed flies. VINTAGE 1925 PATENTED BENCH MOUNTING JIG FOR FLY FISHING TYING? - ROD BUILDING?
Here is a vintage jig found among items for fly fishing. There is no markings[ look like a piece possibly made by Thompson] There is a thumb screw on the backside marked ECONOMY and PAT. JUNE 9. 1925 but I do not know if that is for the jig of just the thumbscrew. the thumbscrew holds steady a"L" shaped rod that can be moved back and forth or rotated. There is a hand crank on top that turns a tapered shaft on the other ended. this turns freely and there is a oil hole on top is neccessary. This tool clamps to a work surface. There is a piece of green felt for worksuface protection that is partially coming off. Other than that it looks to be in good condition, Weight is 1lb.0.5oz. Here is a great vintage probably from the 1950's Martin Fly Tying Kit B1004 never used still mounted on the original cardboard backing. Measures 11"x 8" Looks complete. Box lid has no splits at the corners. The bottom has 2 corners split. Over all box in very good condition. Contents looks near mint. Found at a recent estate sales. CUSTOM MADE FLY TYING MATERIALS BOX WITH CEDAR DRAWERS
Due to some eyesight issues I am having to give up one of my beloved hobbies. Fly fishing and fly tying. Years ago I had a fly fishing& tying friend who was also a retired master custom cabinet maker. He had made this box just for himself and had one more thing to make for it before he called it finished. He then suddenly fell ill and shortly afterwards he passed away. It was a few months later I acquired this from his widow and I know this box is the only one of it's kind. If you take a close look at the pictures you will see that the drawers on the left hand side are recessed. Neil planned on making a tying pedestal out of wood that would stand on end and fit within the confines of the box so the whole works was easily made as one to just up and carry any time he wanted. If you are good at woodworking yourself you can make and finish ... moreyour own to fit. eBay allows me up to 12 pictures and I'm taking every one of them to try and show you his fine craftsmanship. The way he made his joints and neatly rounded out the corners of every drawer. As you can see from the pic's. All of the drawers on 3 sides are made out of cedar. This makes for a nice natural protection for the expensive necks, capes& furs we use in tying flies. I'm sure keeping materials in a Tupperware will protect just as good but having a fine box like this is so much nicer. It's on par of having a fine bamboo rod, There is nothing else like it. Even though this box is slightly used, it will still make for a nice gift for the fly fisherman in your family who appreciates fine things. This box has seen good use over the years and does have the usual small nic's n' scratches on the outside. I'd also like to point out picture# 7 which was my"tool" drawer. I believe this to be the only real flaw. An unknown& accidental spillage of some head cement immortalized those tools into the drawer. As far as shipment of this box is concerned.
