But it can also be used several different ways: The original use for Ultra Wire is as a rib on a nymph. Gold Ultra Wire is ideal for Hares Ear nymphs or similar patterns. Black and Brown Ultra Wire are often chosen as a rib on stonefly nymphs. Ultra Wire is also great in the smaller sizes for tying even the smallest midges. Need to tie a size 28 Zebra Midge? Then look to the XS size which is ideal for ribbing size 22 or smaller flies. Flies can be tied completely out of Ultra Wire if you desire. Karl Schmuecker's Iron Midge is simply an all wire version of the famous Brassie. It is tied with nothing more than Ultra Wire wrapped on the hook then coated with epoxy. If you want to"get fancy" You can wrap a nice head of thread in front of the wire. The Iron Midge works in the same situations in which a San Juan worm is most effective. Blue Dacnis dried skin available for fly tying or craft-work. Unusual irridescent blue-green feathers. Male, no pin feathers. Not an endangered species. But still hard-to-find. Has some feathers you will not see anywhere else. Damaged. Cleaned, preserved by borax. Missing sections of body, some feathers. Please look carefully at photos. The Blue Dacnis is a type of tanager. But looks more like a honey-creeper or hummingbird. They come from South America. A sad story behind this: I had my Dacnis pair for over ten years. In the summer I would put them out in an aviary. It is good for the birds to get sun and fresh air in the summer. I've done this for years without a problem. We moved two years ago to a new house with a river nearby. Last summer a family of raccoons-which I did not realize lived here-tore into the aviary and did a couple ... morethousand dollars worth of damage to the birds and pens. They did not eat their kills. Either, but played with the birds as they killed them, hence the damage on this Dacnis. If they had killed the birds and eaten them, it wouldn't have hurt as much as just seeing them destroyed in that fashion for no good reason. I froze some of the more unusual ones. Like the Dacnis and honey-creepers, if it looked as though there were any salvageable feathers on them. I am in the process of skinning and boraxing them now to get them out of the freezer, since they are taking up room and it hurts me to see them. This is an unusual bird and unusual color. Over 200 naturally-molted yellow macaw chest feathers. From an inch to inch and a half. There are also some very small 1/2 inch yellow or yellow and blue neck, edge-of-wing-primary feathers(you will see them in the center) I put a ruler in the photos so you could get an idea of the size. They my be used for decoration, masks, fly tying, crafts, earrings, Kachina dolls, etc. These are from my blue& gold macaw. These yellow feathers are average. Grade C feathers. They have been cleaned and washed. Since they are average grade. These feathers may show some wear and tear, such as frayed edges, bird-bitten or chewed edges, broken or missing pieces, imperfect shape or color. These are not matched feathers; you would need to match them yourself. Please note: These are not Grade A feathers. So they are not the exhibition/show quality material ... moreused for competitions in tying salmon flies, flies for shows, etc. Grade C feathers work very nicely for tying flies you would use fishing. Or practise fly-tying. They are great for crafts or Venice masks. I will have some Grade A yellow feathers available in the other auctions. To protect against feather mites. I recommend cleaning the feathers with a damp wash-cloth, then lightly-powdering them with Sevin dust(to make sure there are no feather mites able to get into them) Sevin dust is just a garden bug-killer used on roses. You should be able to get it at a nursery. My birds are sprayed with Frontline(Fiprinol) once a month. And get lots of baths, but feather mites are ubiquitous and once a feather is lost from the bird, they can show up. People ask about restoring sheen to the feathers that have been washed. This is what I have found to be useful: for brightening feathers that have lost their luster. You may use a very small amount(on a cotton-ball) of Absorbine ShowSheen Hair Polish and Detangler.
