This G. Loomis Model GF-704 has been kept in excellent condition save the small cork defect previously discussed. If one is a perfectionist. And this bothers you, here is what I would do: To bring it back to perfection one can cut a small section of cork from an old handle. Epoxy the underside of the cork piece and wrap packaging tape around the handle compressing the cork patch tightly to the cork handle. Once the epoxy dries remove the tape and sand the patch so as to match the rest of the handle. When I worked at True Temper/ Montague this is how we would make such small repairs. This is a gorgeous GF-704! It is 90% graphite composite. And the entire rod weighs a mere 3 oz. Where the rod blank enters the cork it is.257" in diameter. Where the rod blank enters the tip guide it is.083" I believe the photographs show well the aluminum ... morerod case with a rubber-gasketed. Aluminum, screw-on cap. Excellent Sage Vantage 9' 7 wt 4 piece Fly Rod with Loomis Venture 7 Fly Reel
Here is a great outfit for throwing big bugs and heavy streamers for large trout. Smallmouths, carp or other big nasty freshwater fish. We start with a Sage Vantage 7 weight 4 piece rod and add a G Loomis Vantage reel with a premium fly line and backing. The outfit comes with a Sage combo nylon covered tube which allows you to keep the reel attached to the rod(note that the tube says it is for a Sage"Flight" but the rod is a Sage"Venture" This rod has a fighting butt, full wells grip and aluminum reel seat. The rod is outstanding condition and is ready to catch some big ones. Not familiar with the Sage Vantage? Check out this review from the Sweetwater Fly Shop's site. I have cast the old launch rods. Which was the Vantage’s predecessor. I was never very happy casing one of these and wondered even more how difficult ... moreit would be for a newbie to cast. It seemed heavy and required a bit of work to even bend the rod. Sage did their homework in redesigning their entry-level rods. The Vantage has a sweet taper that is delicate enough for the smooth and easy strokes but with plenty enough backbone to turn over a double nymph or dry attractor rig in the wind. This is a go to stick for the hopper dropper rigs that we fish on the Yellowstone, especially for clients who need a little extra help with their cast. The 9 for 6 weighs only 3 and 5/16 oz. and feels good in the hand. It is probably a bit heavy for delicate dry fishing but the 4 or 5 weight would do the trick just fine, at least that’s what I thought casting them on the lawn out back. I have been fishing this rod for 6 months now, still have not sent my other six weight in for repair and have not really missed it. I have a buddy of mine who purchased the 9’ 7 weight as a streamer rod that I did get a chance to fish. He lost his Z Axis overboard in the stone and found himself in need for a backup quick and on the cheap.
