Therefore. ... moreI have revised this listing to better describe/show this item, so if you have previously put this item on your watch list, please check for all revisions) This reel has been well maintained and cared for. All of the mechanical and functional aspects are in very good condition and the reel feels and sounds very smooth. There are no bent or warped parts. There are some abrasions and scratches on this item(as shown in pictures) Someone has scratched their initials(NFM" NFFM" and what looks like"VIFF" into 3 interior sections on the reel(not visible when reel is operationally assembled) and 2 exterior areas(where it is mostly visible under the right light) Please refer to the pictures(I have documented these 5 areas) The black paint on the interior of the spool is worn and there are several scratches including one of the initialed areas(refer to photo) The top of the drag adjustment knob has 2 small nicks. The other 2 interior areas where the initials occur are approximately 1 inch from the exposed bearings on both sides of the body of the reel. The interior spool side is where it appears to have the"VIFF" There is also the outline of what appears to be some sticker that has fallen off(located next to the exposed bearings in photo) The final areas are on the exterior front and back face of the reel and I did not notice them until I had the reel under the perfect light(I owned this reel for years without seeing this) Also. There is an abrasion on the frame at the bottom of the reel(next to the bottom post) If you are considering buying this reel then you are most likely a serious angler and or collector so please study ALL pictures very closely with the zoom function. Vintage Antique 3 3/8" Hardy Perfect pattern alloy trout fishing reel
Here we have for auction a perfect pattern alloy trout fishing reel in an absolutely beautiful condition complete with brass screw- removable ebonite handle. Ventilated spool, brass strap over rim tension screw, straight- smooth unfiled brass foot, brass tension mechanism and blue steel pawl. This quality reel little reel has a very strong constant check that sounds a nice firm click. The tension screw& mechanism work just fine applying good tension to the spool. It has practically no scratches, dents, or chips. It still has what is probably the original silk waxed line on it which could pass as new. This reel comes from the original owner. Who used it on few occasions. Reel is of course mechanically sound and produces a wonderful click. It is in its original box. Which is also in mint condition, very rare to see a box in such good condition.

The leaded finish has aged to a nice gunmetal patina. Handle is black. Ribbed brass foot is full length(3 5/8" and unaltered. Duplicated Mark II check shows no signs of wear. JS" initials stamped in winding plate show the reel was made by the infamous hardy reel maker Jimmy Smith. No line guide means more line capacity.

J.S. Sharpe Ltd Aberdeen The Scottie 4" Fly Fishing Reel 1920's Hardy Perfect Clone. I bought this fine reel from the son of a deceased old man in Iceland. It is a very interesting reel and from all my research and observation it seems like a facsimile copy of Hardy 4" Perfect. J.S. Sharpe started making fishing tackle in Scotland in the 1920's. There is a makers mark inside the reel which indicates that like Hardy reels of this vintage it was manufactured by one man as indicated by the"D" stamped inside the reel. The line ring is metal. A break on the body has been very well repaired and likely won't break again. It probably broke the first time because of the type of metal used in manufacture. The metal work is incredibly well done. The handle appears to be some type of early plastic like material. The line ... moreis a woven greased material. Attractive and Rare Hardy Narrow Trout Perfect 3 5/8" Fly Fishing Reel
I don't really want to sell this reel but my wife wants granite countertops. So. That being said. This is a beautiful and rare reel. It is a narrow version of the Hardy Perfect called a"Trout Perfect. That means that the spool is 3/4' wide instead of the normal 1" wide. It comes with a beautiful soft leather case marked with Nordic letters"US" The line on the spool looks to be 5 or 6 weight floating line with a very long leader attached. There are two nick/scratches on the back face of the reel. Otherwise, the reel is in perfect working order and mechanically excellent. SOME INFO ON THIS PAT NUMBERS: BY"THE CLASSIC FLY RODS FORUM" Patent#24245 was applied for on October 19. 1910& granted on June 01, 1911. the scematics submitted on 10/19/1910 bear an early variant of what would eventually become known as the gun-lock spring& pawl check- i.e. the 1912 check. Specifically, patent#24245 covered not only the radial and free-floating disposition of the pawl. But also a silent retrieval feature as found on Silex reels. Though#9261 is referenced in various catalogues. One of the earliest being a(1917) wartime Hardy catalogue, and is stamped into various Hardy reels, usually in juxtaposition to#24245, there are no records indicating that patent-status ... morewas ever granted to#9261. this pattern not totally alien to Hardys, as other reconciled(patent) numbers can also be found on earlier Hardy tackle and in fact. 9261 could still found stamped into Hardy reels well into the'20s. Trout fishing Fly Fishing Reel Central spindle is the rare Tapered variation. i'm no expert but when measured with a vernier caliper the spindle base measures 7.44mm. Upper of spindle measures 7.24mm(dia) Reel has a spool diameter of 2.7/8" 5/8" width internal(if I'm correct) Reel face plate reads as follows"Hardy's Alnwick Patent" center of spool face reads"To Dismount. Turn screw" Internally and on rear of face plate the reel is marked 2, along with the initial"A.B" within a circle. A.B are the initials of Alfred Broadley. Period 1893 Handle is of Ivorine. Reel seat/foot is of brass and stamped"England" Other than the light age/old finish wear the Reel is in truly beautiful. Fully operative condition Ratchet check operates crisply. This is a Hardy Perfect fly reel. The reel is in EXCELLENT condition and only been used 4-5 times. It is right hand wind and has a 6 weight floating Wulff triangle taper fly line. The reel funcions perfectly. There is no wobble in the spool and the handle and check system are sound. There is only the slightest sign of wear around the handle. Which is typical of most perfects, that have been fished. The agate guide is free of any cracks or blemishes as well.

Very nice 1960's Hardy 3 3/4" Salmon Perfect Fly Reel. This reel is in near perfect condition. No major scratches or blemishes. The internal parts work perfectly- my guess is that it was never fished. This reel was part of a collection. It comes in a 1960's era box. But the writing on the box originally read"HJS Linedrier" That is crossed out and someone wrote"Perfect Reel 3 3/4" The box also has wear and tear. I am not sure the story behind the box. However, the condition of the reel makes up for any oddities with the box. A very nice reel for any collection!

2 7/8" Hardy Perfect fly reel, vintage - pre-war Mark II
2 7/8" Hardy Perfect Dup. Mark II with smooth brass foot. Right hand wind, no line guard. The roped knurling on the tension adjuster and circular winding plate stamps indicate a 1930's pre-WWII era build date. Most of the lead finish is gone, leaving a nice pewter gray patina. Reel is in excellent condition. Absolutely tight as a drum and smooth as silk, an 8X reel for sure! No issues whatsoever, everything is as tight as the day it was made. Has an oh-so-sweet butter smooth sounding click, it's going to sting a little bit seeing this one go out the door. I've been fishing it(sparingly) on a pre-fire Leonard for the past 10 years. Hardy Perfect Fly Reel 3-5/8s
You are bidding on a Hardy“The Perfect” size 3-5/8. From the markings I’ll date this reel as being manufactured in the 1930’s. The mechanical condition is wonderful. Its adjustable drag works fine and the check sound has that distinctive Hardy tone. It has acquired a fine patina and has an early unaltered brass foot. The round agate has a fine crack that will not affect the line if one wishes to use the reel. The reel does have two edge chips that I have highlighted in my pics. This is a fine collectable reel and it still has years of fishing enjoyment if used. There is a fair reserve to protect my investment. Hardy "The Perfect" 3-5/8" Duplicated MKII Trout Fly Reel READ
Every discerning fly fisherman is familiar with the legacy of these reels. This rare example is in good working condition. But as the pictures show part of the spool has broken off. According to my great grandfather, it's sitting on the bottom of the Siletz River if you're interested in trying to get it back; Also, the guide is cracked. This would make a great restoration project or could be used as a part donor. I simply don't have the time or money to pursue this as a project. And the previous owner of this reel is at peace with it being sold as long as it goes to someone who can use it and enjoy it. This is a very rare and highly collectible Hardy fly reel and is not easy to find such a reel as this in such remarkable condition for it's age. Please note that there are some minor surface marks and stains to the outside of the reel as has been clearly shown in the photos provided. There is some cracking of the plastic on the finger holder part. However, this part is in very useable condition and completely intact. The inside and outside of this reel may need some minor cleaning and/or lubrication. It is in very good working condition and does have some fishing line inside of the spool. Hardy "The Perfect" 3 1/8 Antique Reel with Spare Spool
This is a Hardy"The Perfect" 3 1/8" reel with an extra spool purchased by my father in the late 70's or early 80's. It has caught many Idaho trout. It is weathered with normal use wear and tear and is also still completely functional. So. While I'm sure that it will likely find a much deserved resting place adorning a well appointed fishing mantle, it is still up for catching fish.

Offered for sale is the very rare. Vintage(pre WW I) Hardy Perfect, ROD IN HAND, Right Hand Wind, engraved on the inside with: R.L. 10" being the employee of Hardy who made this reel. The J. Drewett Book of Hardy Reels, page 47 lists a"R'L. as unknown, and a pre-war employee of Hardy. The reel has an ebonite crank handle, a BRIDGE OVER the rim tension regulator brass wheel, the classic Hardy Perfect perforated spool, the reel being 2 9/16" wide, the full smooth brass reel seat with the patent# 272409 engraved on the side and mounted on the frame with four brass screws. The circa of this reel is pre- WW I as all the brass was appropriated by the British government for shell casings at the outbreak of hostilities. The reel is in fine original condition and is a fine collector reel/ or fishing reel. Running very free, retaining ... moreit's gray gun leaded patina, with no wobbles to the shaft. This is a very early model of the Perfect reel. This reel is quite rare especially in this condition. It maintains it's original gray gun leaded metal finish. It is in it's original found condition and has not been repaired or restored. The reel is in fine working order. The reel revolves well and is in fine working order. The reel does have the usual scratches and scuffs that you would expect from years of use. All adding to it's character, so evocative of times and anglers past. HARDY PERFECT 3 ¼ INCH FLY REEL, In need of repair.

All will start at $1.00 with no reserve. This offering is for a Hardy Perfect in the 3 ¼ inch size. This reel is in need of some tender loving care and repair. The reel is a Duplicated Mark II with brass foot. The reel was apparently dropped and the back frame has two cracks. These can easily be seen in the photos. One is at the line guide and one at the foot. These cause the reel to be hard to turn. But everything does seem to work. The click and drag work. I cannot, however, remove the spool, but I have not really tried. I will let the new owner remove the spool and do the repairs. I believe the frame cracks should be an easy repair to fishing condition with silver ... moresolder, or even J.B. Weld. However. That is up to the new owner. Offered for sale is a vintage Hardy Perfect Salmon/Trout Fly Reel. 3 5/8" in diameter, with a NICKEL SILVER/GRAY AGATE LINE GUARD, set for Right Hand Wind, a smooth alloy foot, with a perforated spool, a Brass Rim Tension Adjustment Knob, an ebonite crank handle with looks like a weight forward 5-8 weight( fly line, in absolutely spactular condition, with minor scratches and retaining most of it's gun gray lacquered finish. The reel appears to very sparingly used. It is a great trout or light salmon fly reel and has been well cared for. The reel would accommodate a 5-8 weight fly line plus backing. The reel would make a fine addition to one's vintage Hardy Perfect Salmon Fly Reel collection when displayed in a prominent location to onlookers to peak with envy and admiration. The agate line guide has 2 very small fissures but the agate is still tight in the steel ring(Please see pic 5) There is some scratching and tiny nicks around the edge in what I would consider normal wear. There is some tarnishing and it could use a good cleaning and lube. Please study all pics carefully before bidding. This reel will make a perfect gift or a great addition to any collection.

Army & Navy J W Young Vintage Alloy Salmon Fly Reel 10B 4 1/4 hardy perfect type
This is a vintage salmon fly reel made by J W Young for the Army& Navy Cooperative Society Ltd. Of Victoria Street, London. I believe this reel is a Model 10B. And would have been made in the late 1920's or early 1930's. J W Young used an enameled finish beginning in the late 1930's. The reel weighs 13.5 ounces. And is 4.25 inches in diameter and 2 inches wide across the frame. The spool itself is about 1 3/8 inch inside width. The brass foot is 3 1/8 inches long. And has not been altered. As to condition. The pictures tell the story. The reel retains most of its original leaded alloy finish. The gear teeth and pawls are very sharp and show very little signs of use. The drag adjustment knob works smoothly. The spindle is in pristine condition and there is absolutely no spindle play or bearing slop. The spool turns very smoothly. ... moreThe white handle is in very fine condition and spins freely. The spool retaining screw is in excellent condition. There are no material dings or rash. There is some finish loss. Mainly on the rim, and some very light scratches in the finish, all of which can be seen in the pictures. There is some residue inside the spool from backing and line. And perhaps some light corrosion under the finish on the arbor(not sure if this is corrosion or gunk, and didn't try to clean the spool to find out) and these too can be seen in the pictures. The reel was not used much at all. Mechanically. The reel works perfectly. These J W Young made reels are getting to be quite hard to find. Especially in this kind of condition, and this larger salmon size size is very rare indeed. This reel represents the"holy grail" for a J W Young reel collector. And is the kind of reel that could become the cornerstone of a good collection. I believe that this reel was acquired by my father or grandfather when new(they fished for salmon every summer in Scotland in the mid-1930's) And then not used much if at all. A legendary Hardy Bros"The Perfect Fly Reel. Made in England. 3-3/8" Scarring on bottom of reel by seat footing shows that it has actually been fished extensively by its famous former owner. But reel still turns effortlessly and line guide is perfectly smooth. Internal clickers still loud in both retrieve and drag. The backstory. If you care: This reel belonged to famed author and conservationist Peter Matthiessen. A cleaning crew was throwing it in the dump after he died(RIP Peter) where I rescued it(I also have a Fenwick fly rod of his listed on eBay) It will just gather dust in my basement so I'd rather someone who will appreciate the reel's pedigree as well as its history will buy it.
