Fly rod and reel, Hardy exceptional condition
I bought this about 25+ years ago with the intention of seriously fishing. I never took it fishing. I practiced casting a few times but not near the water. Other things came up. Now it is time to get rid of things I don't use. This is a cream-puff. Both rod and reel. The only blemish is where I painted my name on the rod just above the handle. Incidentally the handle still has the plastic on it as they come new now. I will try to remove it. It is what is called a"red thread" model. Up for auction is an early Hardy Uniqua 2 7/8 fly reel. From research I have done. I believe the reel was manufactured between 1919 and 1923. I obtained this information from The Classic Fly Rod Forum web site. The reel is complete and in good smooth working condition. Cosmetically the pictures should do the talking. Diawa 720 Fly reel in fine shape considering its age. The 700 series reels were introduced in the early 70's. At the time. These were the premiere fly reels in the Diawa line. No doubt based on a very popular English built fly reel it's similarity's are striking. These include thumb screw type drag system, Right/Left hand drag adjustment and line guide and audible click. Interchangeable spools were also offered. Prior to the 70's. Products manufactured in Japan were not well appreciated. Sometime in the late 60's this view began to change. Quality products began to show themselves. These reels reflect that change in manufacturing process. Hardy Eureka 3 1/2" Centre pin reel - pre-1939 - Excellent
For your consideration this absolutely beautiful condition Hardy Eureka 3 1/2" centre pin reel. This reel is in stunning condition and retains virtually all of its original leaded finish as well as the original outer lacquer coat. It appears to have had very little use at all or whoever used it did so very carefully. It appears to have just been packed away for the last 70 years. Full ribbed brass foot. Rim check, horseshoe latch, and internally stamped JBW for Joe Wallace indicating this reel to have been made before around 1939. There are on close inspection some very small handling marks, some minor line grooves as seen in picture, and although it spins beautifully smoothly there is a very faint wobble commensurate with it's age which in no way effects it's use. Hardy Bros. 3 5/8” LHW perfect fly reel. This is the pre-war, blued-finish reel that essentially put Hardy on the map. It has the ribbed brass foot that has not been tampered with. This MK 11 reel(extra spring and pawl) made by Tommy Armstrong, has a very effective check, certainly enough for a reel of this size. The agate does not have a crack in it, and there are no chips or cracks in the aluminum frame or spool. The reel comes in the correct Hardy box. In LHW, these pre-war reels are very hard to find and, this one spins very smoothly on its ball bearings.

CONDITION USED– I would further classify this reel as being in VERY GOOD condition. There are almost no marks on this reel. Great care has been taken in the use of this reel. The only thing that kept me from grading this reel as excellent is that the prior owner ground some metal from the reel foot to make it fit his rod better. See further description below. The plastic reel case is in good condition with a couple of tears in the plastic in the zipper area. All photos have been taken by FlyMasters personnel and are of the reel to be sold in this auction. DESCRIPTION The Hardy LRH Lightweight reel is a classic. Simple design. The reel finish is anodized aluminum. The reel was designed and made in England. The reel comes with a dark blue plastic pouch lined with foam covered with velvety material. The precision click-check protects the lightest ... moreof tippets. The spools change very quickly. Many anglers think that the sound made by a Hardy reel with a fish running hard is the greatest sound in the world. PLEASE NOTE THE FOLLOWING: The front section of the reel foot on this reel has been modified by grinding away some of the metal to make it fit the reel seat on a rod better. The grinding job was done well and left only a few marks on the reel foot. However. We tested this reel by mounting it on several brands of modern rods. While the reel locked down properly on most rods, there were a couple of notable exceptions– Hardy& Orvis. We were able to remedy this problem by adding 2-3 layers of duct tape to the front part of the reel foot. Thank goodness for duct tape. You are viewing my superb quality HARDY BROS of Alnwick fly reel. THE MARQUIS SALMON Number Two' size. This top quality 4" diameter fly reel is made at the HOUSE OF HARDY factory in Alnwick. England and is designed for use for salmon angling. The Marquis. Salmon number 2 reel is a reel that meets the modern demand for a rim control fly reel of large capacity to use with salmon fly rods. In addition to the adjustable click-check, the line spool has an exposed large braking surface which overlaps the frame to form a large braking surface for instant and sensitive finger control. The frame and spool are of special high duty aluminium machined to close tolerances, light yet strong with a handsome finish of gunmetal and silver aluminium. The check-work is easily and quickly adjusted to give varied strengths by means of a regulator button ... morefitted on the back of the reel frame. The nickel-silver plated line guard has also been designed to ensure speedy change-over to optional right or left hand wind. This reel has only had some use. As a result there is some minor paint wear to the back-plate(visible in photograph 2) The reel is mechanically perfect. Including the quick release spool mechanism and the tension regulator. As you can see in photographs 1 and 3, the inside of the reel and the spool itself remain in excellent condition. It is fitted with a HARDY light blue coloured DT-10-F(Double Taper 10 Weight Floating) fly line. This reel would be great to use now or to add to your collection. HARDY BROS. " THE LONGSTONE " REEL for PARTS or RESTORATION - PRICED RIGHT
Some idiot took a wire brush to this one. I found this at an estate sale and figured someone out there could at least use this one for a parts reel or possibly restoring. There are 2 issues other then the finish[ wire brush marks and pitting of the metal] problems. The first is that the off/on screw in the center of the drag knob in picture 4 needs to have an easy out drill to re tap the screw. The second issue is that the 2 pegs that hold the rod to the reel seat are broken. Everything is there but just needs to be reattached. The drag knob works and the clicker is strong. Hardy Marquis Salmon 1 Fly Reel & 2 Extra Spools
This reel was the workhorse of my Steelhead arsenal. Landing many big fish and lots of trout. I used this reel on a 10' 8 weight Sage rod and an 11' 8-9 weight Cabelas rod I made several years ago. This reel performed perfectly, and nothing can beat the whine of the reel when a big fish takes off. Normal honest wear is evident on this reel frame, as it tamed many a fish and traveled down many rivers. It has always been cleaned and oiled after each trip. It comes with two extra spools. All spools are loaded with ample backing for Steelhead. One spool carries a Teeny Nymph line, one a 30' TS650 fast sink tip, and the third a Teeny line with a 16' 306 grain sink tip. I'm including two black leather bags for the spools and the original Hardy vinyl case. You will not find a nicer set.

Time to sell my beloved Hardy Marquis Salmon 2 fly reel. This is a great steelhead reel and it really sings when a fish takes off! This reel was used on 11 weight Spey rods and performed flawlessly. The frame shows honest wear with no abuse other than the gentle caress of a river bottom while releasing a fish. Comes with one extra spool loaded with a size 10-11 Spey line and ample flourescent green backing. Main spool is loaded with an Airflo Skagit Compact line in 720 grains and ample backing. A Hardy’s FWK Wallis Centre pin reel No1. 3 ½” size. This little reel is a great runner apart from one thing…some numpty has dropped it at some point and there is a dig/damage to the rim as you can see on the photos. It’s solid and not going to easily come away from the main drum face. Could possibly be reinforced with a filler of some sort, but the reel spins superbly despite this. Someone has polished the back with some kind of circular buffer as you can see on the photos. This is the jewelled bearing No1 model. By appointment to HRH The Prince of Wales Manufacturer of Fishing Tackle. This is engraved in the original zippered pouch for the reel. Comes with the Hardy Marquis#5 3" reel. Cortland 444 WF5F Nymph Tip line, original box and original zippered pouch. You are bidding on a classic vintage 1983 Hardy Marquis#5 3" reel. Since Hardy stopped making the Marquis they been inundated by requests for its reinstatement. So they introduced a new Marquis salmon reel in sizes one. Two and three for $300, built to the original design, but not#5. You can't get a#5 new from Hardy. Only here on e bay. I purchased this in about 1983 when I joined the Round Out Hunting and Fishing Club on the Round Out Stream in NY State. My friend Gus Nevros. the famous bamboo fly rod maker) was a fellow trap shooter and he attempted to introduce me to fly casting. ... moreIn one long day Gus helped me buy an entire fly fishing set up including this reel. When we got home from the shopping trip, including after trying a dozen poles to select the best and after visiting half a dozen stores, I looked like I'd just jumped from the pages of an LL Bean Catalog. I think we spent about $1,000 that day on everything. Good thing I had a good job at the time. Went fishing a few times. Then the Round Out Club disbanded. Virtually never used the stuff since then and the good job is gone. It's been stored in my temperature controlled closet since then. My loss is your gain. Bid now and often. 1953-56 Hardy Princess Fly Reel
The"Princess" was introduced in 1953 and was presumably named for Princess Anne who was born in 1950. It was offered in three sizes; 3" 31/4" and 31/2" and was finished in a green color with green handles. In 1957 the green color was replaced with a gray finish, and a two screw line guard was added. By 1962 only the 31/2" size was offered. The Princess was the first Hardy reel to offer the reversible check which allowed the user to change the reel from Right Hand wind to Left. The Princess is one of the most popular of all Hardy reel models ever offered.
