The reel measures 3 inches across and has"The Sunbeam Fly Reel. Made By Hardy Bros Ltd, Alnwick, England, Duplicated Mark II, Pat. Nos. 24245& 9261" impressed in to the back plate. The Horsehoe release latch to the front of the reel works fine and the brass lins guide is solidly attached. Unfortunately. The smooth brass foot has been bent and the brass bracket doesn't sit flush with the back plate, I have tried to show this in the photographs. The reel still revolves well with a good smooth action and ... morethe constant check mechanism works fine. The bakelite handle is well attached and sturdy and is free from crazing. There are small patches of loss to the original finish and the usual scratches. Scuffs and nicks that come from the years of use, but all adds to its' character and charm, so evocative of times and anglers past. Twin reverse taper handles, central drag adjuster and side lever ratchet check. The ribbed alloy foot is well attached but appears to have had one end filed down. The inside of the reel is stamped with the letters"N.M.H" These are the initials of the gentleman, Norman Hetherington, who made the reel, he worked for Hardy Brothers from 1938- 1968. The ... morereel is also has the number 8 stamped to the spool and the back plate. The reel still revolves well with a good smooth action. The side lever works fine and the handles are firmly fixed. There are no splits or cracks to the reel that I can find. However, there are the usual marks, scratches and small patches of discolouration, mainly to the face plate of the spool and the foot that you would associate with a reel of this age. An excellent example of the Elarex by Hardy Comes in its Rexine case with good leather strap There is an oiler marked'R H ROUND BIRMINGHAM' Also a wire flat head screwdriver marked'TERRYS MADE IN ENGLAND' They were with the reel when I acquired it. I have not polished the reel. As these things are easily overdone The reel winds smoothly and silently. As you would expect of a high quality example of engineering.

This is an original Hardy of Alnwick pressed card Reel Box. The box is in excellent condition and is sound in its construction. The lid carries the Royal crests of HM King George V. HRH Prince of Wales, HM King Alfonso. The exterior measurement of the box is 6 x 6 x 4. Inches) so it will accommodate a good sized reel. In fact I wish I had a reel big enough to fill it. Vintage Hardy 4 1/4" Perfect Salmon Fly Reel. Duplicated MkII Check Mechanism.
I have for sale a 4 1/4" Hardy Perfect Salmon Fly Reel with a wide spool. The reel has the Duplicated Mk II Check Mechanism. It has a smooth brass foot. Nickle silver reverse thread drum locking screw, a rim mounted tension adjuster, Ebonite handle and a rotating nickle silver line guide. The reel has at some stage been put away wet and this has caused some staining to the face of the reel as well as the two spots of corrosion to the rim which I have mentioned above. I am sure the face can be cleaned up if you wish to make it more presentable. The two bites of corrosion are shown in picture 6. Picture 7 shows another view of the area above the pillar. There remains a good depth of metal to the rim and whilst it would be folly to say those areas have not been weakened by this. They do not render the reel unusable. There is no chance of ... morethis failing under normal use. The foot has been lightly filed at one end. There is no excessive play in the reel. I would describe it as a good usable reel. CONDITION USED– I would further grade this reel as in VERY GOOD condition. This reel has been used. But never abused. The reel is tight and smooth. It seems to work perfectly. There is no reel case or reel bag with this reel. DESCRIPTION The Scientific Anglers System reels were made by Hardy Brothers in England and the reel is so marked. It matches the Hardy Marquis 10 and the spools are interchangeable. This is size 9. I would use this reel for 8 or 9 weight lines. The frame of the reel is a dark tan color. The spool is a pewter color. The reel as currently set up is for Left Hand crank. It is easily switched. However. FlyMasters will be happy to switch the reel to right-hand cranking, if you wish. A rare original vintage HARDY"TAUPO" PEEFECT in excellent working order. Winds nice and smooth with no play or spool movement. Full length ribbed unfiled brass foot, black ebonite handle, rim tension screw and brass line guide with normal wear to the enamel finish. The handle has had a slight knock sometime in the past and does sit slightly off square on the winding plate. This has caused a very fine small stress fracture on the inside of the winding plate"only" as per photo. The rod is an extremely rare hand made split cane 8ft 9" Parabolic Trout Fly Fishing Rod Hand Built by Robert Kirk of Hampton Court, the rod is based on the design of the CC De France RRP £3295.00 which he made for Hardy when he was a master rod builder for them, he made rods for the likes of funny man Charlie Drake and Rolling Stones lead singer Mick Jagger! I would say it is in excellent condition for it's age and I have not attempted to clean off the vintage patina it is as original as you can get although I am sure it would look almost new with a wipe down, it is such a nice rod ... moreit will probably end up in a display cabinet again but would make anybody who uses it a very happy angler as you cant beat the feel of a true split cane rod. The reel is a vintage J.W.Young Condex that is approximately 60 years old and is in great condition as can be seen. It comes with the box which is in fairly good condition but not new as you would expect, the reel was commissioned for airbrushing after the September 9/11 attacks but the artist was not paid, I purchased it as it is a work of art and have never used it for fishing, it is fit for any display cabinet but like the rod still a usable item that will make an awesome gift for a relative or survivor and would also make an excellent investment for any fine fishing tackle collector, a much better bet than leaving your cash in the bank these days. vintage hardy lightweight fishing reel 3.5 inch + 3 inch alloy fly fishing reel
hi for consideration here I have 2 vintage fishing reels. Firstly is a vintage hardy 3.5 inch lightweight fly reel in ok condition I would say, quite some paint loss and chips, it spins well enough and has a correct smooth alloy foot, inside it has a double check mechanism, secondly is a vintage alloy and what must be brass with a tortoise shell pattern, this reel measures 3 and has a slightly wobbly bone handle with constant check, the foot is ever so slightly wobbly as well, it also has brass pillars, but again it spins ok, posted recorded delivery thanks for looking and good luck, ps please take a look at my other vintage items for sale thank you please make payment as soon as possible to avoid a delay in posting as I fish most days. Reel is 3 1/4 inches in diameter by 1 1/8 inches wide(excluding handle and drag knob) This is one of the first reels Hardy made from a very tough and extremely light cast magnesium alloy. The reel is remarkably light weighing a mear 2.8 ounces- roughly 60% less than comparable Hardy reels cast from the more traditional aluminum alloy. Most suitable for 2 to 5 weight lines/rods. Reel ... morecan be fished with right or left hand retrieve by simply inverting the single click pawl. Minimal spool overrun and"drag" regulation may be applied via a plastic knob on the reverse which causes a steel leaf spring to exert varying pressure on a single click pawl. Wonderful clicker sound. Reel is in good used condition mechanically and cosmetically. Rivets and screws are tight and reel is in tight running order. Handle intact and free of cracks. Spool shows minimum wear. Internal parts are free of rust or corrosion. There is some surface rash on the back of the frame but nothing really obnoxious. Excellent compliment to a classic light weight bamboo fly rod.
