Up for auction is this older(circa 1980) Hardy Bros 3 5/8 inch# 8/9 multiplier fly reel in decent condition throughout retaining approximately 98% of the grey finish on the frame. The spare frame is also in decent condition other than some rubs here and there(see pics) Engraved on the back of the reel is“Marquis# 8/9” and“Made By Hardy Bros Ltd England” The multiplying unit has a quick drum release latch and a single ebonite handle mounted to it. It has a short smooth alloy foot and the drag control knob is located on the back of the reel. Included is the original Hardy box. I'm selling this British made Hardy Marquis 8/9 fly reel with line and case.Everything is in excellent almost unused condition.Just the smallest scuff on case and some light tarnish on the reel's edges which would probably buff off.No marks on reel's back.An estate find.I've never used this reel and I can't tell you what weight or line type that's on the spool.The line is in pristine condition and certainly weight matched to the reel.Undoubtably high end floating line.Still has the leader on it.Couldn't have been used for more than one salmon fishing trip from the looks of it. Very fine used example of a later vintage Orvis Battenkill Mark III single action. Spring and pawl, fly reel made by Hardy Brothers of Alnwick. England. Reel is 3 3/16 inches in diameter by 1 1/16 inches wide. Cast of a newly developed magnesium alloy the reel is extremely light weighing a mere 2.2 ounches- more than 30% lighter than comparible sized Hardy reels using traditional cast aluminum alloys. Most suitable for 2- 5 weight lines/rods. Reel is in very fine condition mechanically and cosmetically with minor finish loss on the reel foot being the only indication of previous use- looks almost like new. You are bidding on one of the most rarest of Hardy reels. The"SEA SILEX" non-perforated faceplate reel, 6" in diameter, with a BULBOS COW HORN HANDLE" dating this reel circa 1920-1930, with the maker's initials(JSD) inside, being"James Davison" who began working for Hardy in 1920, and fitted with a large smooth brass foot, a two screw latch, and a knurled edged tension nut, and lever operated external break with pad. According to Hardy records, this reel was made of"DURALUMIN" and this non-ventilated faceplate first went into production and dates this reel to about 1930s. The reel is recognisable in that it is fitted with a compression check. The check is operated by a lever mounted in the rim of the reel and does. Hardy Perfect 3 3/8 inch fly reel 60s/70s.
A really nice Hardy Perfect 3 3/8 narrow drum trout reel. It has enamel finish and is in quite nice order. I have owned it since the 1980s but think it must be of 1960's or possibly 70's date of manufacture. It has a smooth ali foot and agate line guide. Line is an 80's floating weight forward so not of any great value. The leather case is not period and is a near new modern leather sheep skin lined one. All in all a very nice reel to keep or to use. Vintage Hardy "Gem" Mk I Fly Reel
A vintage Hardy Mk I"Gem" fly reel manufactured between 1961-1969. Marked on back in block letters-THE 3/58" GEM HARDY BROS LTD MAKERS ALNWICK ENGLAND. It has paint wear along the back rim and on the reel edges as well. The spool is non-perforated and seems to be spun from aluminum. The reel mechanism functions well. It has a nice purring click. It has an adjustable flip type lever drag knob and a black reel seat and handle. A well used-but fully functional fly reel. No returns- so please feel free to ask any questions before bidding.
