Unfortunately, the ... morelabel and the serial number have also been removed. Possibly a kit rod? With that being said, this rod is in great shape and it is free of any defects. Its actual length is just over 9' 6" and it weighs 8.3oz. All three pieces are full-length, and they are straight. Please note, the reel seat has some oxidation and I believe this rod originally came with a fighting butt (I could not get the butt-cap off). The ferrules fit tight and they measure 17/64" (they do need a good cleaning). The cork handle is clean, and the bamboo looks amazing. This rod feels like it would handle 9-10wt fly lines (possibly even 10wt+). It would be perfect for salmon or even saltwater fishing.

This is an Orvis rod and reel combo from the 1960's. The rod is split bamboo and is signed"Orvis Impregnated Battenkill" and measures 6' 6" in 2 pieces. It's slightly over 7' due to the handle being replaced, and also has one unoriginal guide. The ferrule appears to fit snug, but as I said, I'm no expert. If it were serialized, I'd have a lot more info, but feel free to ask any questions.

Here for auction is this Orvis Wes Jordan model. 8' 2 pc, 2 tip with original bag and tube, made in 1970. Sold through Gloria Jordan's rod shop to the name inked on the shaft(initials are professionally engraved on the butt cap see photo) and is inked Made by Wes Jordan and what the client was told by Gloria Jordan as well. The rod is in superior original condition with some soiling on the grip from handling and some incidental reel marks on the spacer. It just sparkles. From the photos one can easily see the rod was well taken care of and it is for a right handed caster. Orvis 6 1/2' Deluxe bamboo impregnated fly rod "Battenkill" 1956 Never used!!!
This extraordinary fly rod was bought by my uncle in around 1956. He never used it! it was given to me years ago and I had it in my gun closet. Orvis Impregnated bamboo. Deluxe Style"Battenkill" 6 1/2 foot, 2 piece, 11 guides. Serial number 19049, Weight 2 oz. This rod has never been used, I don't even think its been put together. As you can see from the pics, the cork handle is light and has no signs of handling, which usually turns darker from human touch. It has 2 tips with it and is contained in a cotton plaid sheath and is placed inside an aluminum tube. The tube has the original tag on the outside. The tube and tag, as you can see, show some signs of wear from storage and moving it around. I was always going to fish with this rod. But couldn't bring myself to take it out to the stream.I really don't collect rods ... morenor do I really need it anymore. I did some research and found its very rare to find one in unused condition. So heres your chance! Thanks for looking!

This is an ORVIS LIGHT SALMON BAMBOO FLY ROD that was built by George Reed and Calvin Skinner in Wes Jordan's fly shop in 1960. The rod is a 9 foot. Two piece, 9 weight and is in excellent condition. I bought it to go after Steel Head but never got the chance. I have used it instead to fish Mid-West Large Mouth Bass and spring Pike. This is an"Impregnated" rod, meaning it is water proofed without varnishes. You can put this fly rod away wet for the night without the worry of softening or ruining the finish. Originally this rod came with a"super-fine" style grip, Orvis loves to use these) they are tiny and well suited for 4 weight rods. I had it replaced with a proper sized big game"full-wells" style grip. This made the rod much more controllable and comfortable to both cast and fight fish with. Orvis Madison bamboo rod, 8 foot, 2/2, 5/6 line, excellent condition
Orvis bamboo rod. From early 60's, 8 foot, 2 piece 2 tips, for#5 or 6 line(either casts well- I prefer#5) Rod is marked for HDG(6) line, but from my experience with several Orvis bamboo rods, they'over-lined' the rod by one size, so a#5 line works just fine. Rod in excellent condition, ferrule tight, wrappings sound. Both tips same length, and rod does not have a set. No nicks or repairs. However, this rod does not have a serial number, and in my discussions with Orvis, they did have some rods in the 60's which were used for their casting classes and were subsequently sold to class members. They believe this is one of those rods. Downlocking maple insert reel seat. Includes rod tube and rod sack. If you want to have a good cane(bamboo) rod. Then this is the one. Vintage Orvis Shooting Star 8 1/2' Bamboo Fly Rod
This is a lovely example of an Orvis Shooting Star 8 1/2' 5 3/8 oz fly rod which I think is from the late 1960's. Includes original rod tube. Sack, and butt extension. This is a great casting rod! I like it best with a WF8 but is rated for a 9 weight so it will depend on your casting preferences. This was the lightest of the Shooting Stars and in my opinion, the nicest. The previous owner had sent it back to Orvis for repairs and refininsh so it looks great. Only evidence of repair I can see are a small repair wrap on the butt section a few inches below the first stripper guide, and one tip has been varnished between the ferrule and the first guide. The ferrules are snug, the sections are full length and straight, the numbers match, and the rod should give years of good service!

Orvis. 8’0” Varnished, circa 1941, bamboo trout rod. This is the earliest varnished Orvis I have seen, having the serial number‘094. It has two full-length tip sections, and the knurled brown anodized aluminum down-locking reel seat with the Orvis stamping on the locking nut. This rod, marked“Battenkill, has the early truncated(waisted” step-down ferrules with black tipped medium brown silk. It weighs 3.5 ounces, and is in original condition, with no repairs and no evidence of an overcoat of varnish. It feels to me like a WFF 5 line will match the action. It comes in the original green cloth bag and tube. This is unquestionably a Wes Jordan– Omar Needham rod which, in the world of Orvis rods, makes this example quite rare.

Orvis, 6’6”, “Deluxe,” bamboo trout rod.
Orvis. 6’6” Deluxe, bamboo trout rod. This serial#24055, ca. 1958 impregnated rod, is the two-piece 2 oz. model with the two small aluminum sliding bands over a cork reel seat. This is a nice fast action WFF 5 rod with very good ferrule fits and both full-length tip sections are dead straight. In fact, there is almost no sign of use on this rod, with only a faint reel foot impression in the cork. It comes in the original Orvis plaid cloth bag and the correct aluminum tube with all of the original label intact. This rod has all of its fishing life ahead of it.

But in the winter of 1970 a fly shop in westchester co ny got into the fly fishing buss, and this sign came from there store. It has two holes in the side of it for mounting to a wall. It has slight wear some scratches some chipped gold paint etc. it is very cool. The sign was given to the owners by the ORVIS co, this is not some made up sign, the font style is the key to the history. Good luck!

This very special rod belonged to an avid"catch and release" trout fisherman who maintained it in it's current exceptional condition. He climbed the Sierra mountains with this rod and caught beautiful golden trout; caught browns on the River Tess in England just behind Balmoral Castle; fished the Yellow Breeches in PA; Provo River near Sundance Resort for rainbow; Appalachian Mountain streams; the Housatonic in CT and several streams on the East coast where he lived. He loved this rod more than any of his others. But preferred to use it only for special fly fishing experiences. This rod has history and character. All pieces are the correct length and are straight with no rod set. The ferule is tight and pops when tip is removed. All guides and wraps are in very good condition. The reel seat is in very good condition and has a reel foot impression in the cork. The rod is marked: Orvis Custom Impregnated 5' 4WT 1 3/4oz. I believe the rod was assembled by a well-known rod maker in Wisconsin who did a great job in making the rod. The rod includes a green rod sack and a black and brass rod tube. VTG 1954 ORVIS BATTENKILL 7 1/2' Bamboo Fly Rod 3 3/4 oz IMPREGNATED
If you are looking for a museum piece. Please move on to the next 7 1/2' Battenkill. If you are looking for a beautiful, chocolatey colored 60 year old Orvis that is ready to fish for another 60 years, then this is your rod. The original wraps were dried and cracked so it was re-wrapped in the correct#541 Gudebrod brown with three coats of varnish. The ferrules, winding check and tip tops were re-blued by the best man in the business- Dave Leclaire. They have a nice snug fit and the familiar pop when pulled apart. This is a sweet rod that deserves to be fished, as they cast 5 or 6 weights and are known to be great all-rounders for dry, wet and streamer fishing. You cannot find a better rod under 8' and with the impregnation, it makes them durable and waterproof for life. Comes with original tube and replacement sock. Hand-made stripping guide, polished aluminum screw down locking band reel seat with walnut insert, robust cigar cork grip(heavily soiled) Butt section is 43.25 inches in length while tip section as normally supplied ... morein the factory kit is 1/2 inch shorter at 42.75 inches. Ferrules are tight and"pop" when separated, both rod sections are straight. This is a terrific rod that is very fish-able and will give somebody quite a few years of pleasure. It deserves to be fished rather than sit on a shelf someplace. This auction is for a great Vintage Orvis Impregnated Battenkill 7 1/2' Bamboo Fly Fishing Rod. Comes complete with sock and tube-do not think the tube is original-the sock ... moreprobably is. This rod only has 1 tip. It is a 3 piece rod-but only comes with 1 tip. The original writing is almost all gone stating the name and model of the rod-but i thin k it is a battenkill. Have no idea of weight or anything like that. Rod is in good condition-there is a deep impression on the Handle piece near the top guide beside the serial number(last picture) All of the guides are there. The rod has no splits or breaks and does appear to have been repaired. All pieces are straight with no warpage. Under each guide the bamboo is darker than the rest of the rod. No gouges or deep impressions in the cork handle. The tube is not an original Orvis tube-I don't think. The top threaded part is split so the top does not screw on it without much difficulty. Bamboo fly rod; custom built. 2/1, 7/8 line( I liked a#8 WF best) Impregnated shafts, Orvis or Hull blank, super"Z" type ferrule at 15/64 th, aluminum DL seat with stunning cocobolo insert, grip style ala garrison, deep rust silk wraps, Mildrum stripper and chrome snakes. Conceived as a large trout, bass, steelhead or light salmon rod; impregnated for cold/heavy weather as is often the case. Nice semi-parabolic taper; capable of holding up a long line cast. Used for autumn run browns out west with large streamers. It's a cold, misty day in late November; some snow flurries dance about. The water is steel grey, crowds are gone but the fish remain; fresh arrivals every day. This would be a great rod to have with you!

Mint vintage Orvis 1957 Battenkill 7 1/2' bamboo fly rod
Rarely does a rod come available of this class. This rod was made 12/24/57 and sold in Manchester Vermont on 5/14/58 the rod appears to be not used. This is a numbers matching rod with both tips the same length.I put both tips into the rod they seat perfect they pull apart with a very nice pop. The matching tube is excellent no dents.The serial no. match the rod.7 1/2' Battenkill 4 oz. HDH that would be 6 WT. Double taper line today. This rod was made by Cal Skinner and George Reed.A new bamboo from Orvis is 2600.00,this rod may be 55 years old but is as close as you are going to get. Reluctantly selling this rod.

Orvis Battenkill Impregnated 6 1/2ft. 2pc. 1 tip bamboo fly rod 5wt.
This auction is for an Orvis Impregnated Battenkill 6 1/2 ft. 2pc. 1 tip(made that way) fly rod. This rod casts a 4 or 5 wt. line very nicely and is in very good to excellent condition. The cigar shaped cork grip does show the beginning signs of ridging, but is structurally in very good condition. The reel seat is walnut with downlocking mechanism. The rod sock has a very small hole worn in the bottom where the rod has poked through, and can be very easily sewn closed. The ferrules fit very snug, and make a strong pop noise when pulled apart. 1948 Orvis Bamboo Light Spinning Spin Rod 7' Pat Pending
Early Orvis bamboo spin rod in exc minus condition. Slight cork soiling being the only issue. Tube and sock are 70s or 80s Orvis replacements. I do not know if Orvis refurbished rod at time of tube replacement. The condition is exc. minus as I have described, so it is possible. 5832 on both sections. Note the lure sizes on label: 1/16- 1/2 oz. In the 1940s this was the lightest action spinning rod Orvis made. Around 1950-1 the 7' light action was replaced by the 6 1/2' model. Ferrule size on this is 14, and it has a finer tip than the 7' 1950s and later version. This is a pleasure to cast. Please ask any questions. Thanks for looking.

Up for auction is an awesome three-piece Orvis Impregnated Wes Jordan bamboo fly rod with leather carrying case. This vintage rod has a beautiful finish which I believe is mahogany and is in excellent condition all around. In areas where the rod has been hand scribed. It appears to have some sort of protective coating on these areas which can be seen in the photos, so this is why the rod coloring appears funny or to be off-colored in the photos. This rod was made specially for a doctor and was purchased from the family's estate. Rod is hand scribed Made for Carl M Lind MD by Wes Jordan. as shown in photo. Also stamped on silver reel butt plate knob is"Carl M Lind MD" A rare Orvis Impregnated Wes Jordan 8 1/2' 5 1/8 oz.G.A.F(9) which appears to have been barely used. Orvis Impregnated Bamboo Fly/Spin Rod and Reels
This item is a vintage Orvis Fly/Spin Combo boxed set. The rod is an Orvis impregnated bamboo. 6 1/2' 2 3/4 oz three piece with two tips, all sections have matching serial numbers are straight and they fit together tightly. The spinning reel is an Orvis 50A in great working order, the bail works the drag is functional and it comes with a spare spool, made in Italy. The fly reel is an Orvis Batenkill, click and pawl original made in England. These are not the reels that came with the rod. However, these are the same model of reels that would have been included in this set from Orvis. The box is mahogony tightly fitted with movable sections for other gear. A great collectors item you won't find anywhere else. The item will be carefully packed and over boxed for shipping.
