This is a numbers matching rod with both tips the same length.I put both tips into the rod they seat perfect they pull apart with a very nice pop. This auction is for an Orvis Impregnated Battenkill 6 1/2 ft. 2pc. 1 tip(made that way) fly rod. This rod casts a 4 or 5 wt. line very nicely and is in very good to excellent condition. The cigar shaped cork grip does show the beginning signs of ridging, but is structurally in very good condition. The reel seat is walnut with downlocking mechanism. The rod sock has a very small hole worn in the bottom where the rod has poked through, and can be very easily sewn closed. The ferrules fit very snug, and make a strong pop noise when pulled apart. Orvis Clearwater 904-4 Fly Rod / Battenkill Barstock Combo
I purchased this rod and reel Combo directly from Orvis for a fly fishing trip last year. I fished three different streams over a long weekend. And the rod hasn't been used since. I took the fly line off the reel so it wouldn't retain memory. This is an upgrade from the normal Orvis Clearwater package- instead of the Clearwater reel. It is the Battenkill reel. The rod is in perfect condition. And the cork handle is silky smooth and clean as if never fished. I didn't register the rod either- the registration card is included as pictured. There's nothing wrong with this outfit. I only needed it for that one trip last year, and it was either buy one or rent one. I tested out the 8.5 and the 9 Clearwater 4's at Orvis. And the 9 footer smoked the 8.5 in my opinion. It's a smooth rod that will give you distance too.

Although designated by Orvis as an HCH(7) wt, as is traditional with Orvis bamboo fly rods, the line designation is overstated. This rod casts powerfully and delicately with a line weights 5DT, 6WF, and 6DT, and weighs in at 5- 1/8. Even though this rod is from the mid 1960’s, as one can see by the pictures, the rod is in near new condition. Model: Orvis Impregnated Battenkill Id Number: 11397- All 3 sections match up. Rod Details: This is a rare 9 1/2' 3- piece fast action rod with an aluminum reel seat. It was built in 1951 by George Reid and Cal Skinner(I have not been able to find this specific rod anywhere) Condition: Fair to Mint. Overall this is a great rod and there are very few like it. I found this rod on a condo wall. It was left behind from the previous owners. That said, there are a few specs of paint on 3 of the eyelets(can be cleaned up easily) Other than that, the rod is in great condition and very fishable. I'm auctioning an Orvis Mid Arbor IV reel and spare spool. Suitable for line size 7 or 8. Both the reel and spare spool are loaded with approximately 100 yds of 20# dacron backing. The reel has been lightly used and the spare spool has never been fished, though it had a line loaded on it. Both are in excellent condition with the exception of a scratch/nick on the rim of the reel. It's not a dent and it's just cosmetic. The reel is set up for left-hand retrieve but is easily changed to right-hand operation. This auction is for a Orvis Battenkill Mid Arbor lll Titanium Fly Reel W/Extra Spool. This is an older reel but it has been well cared for. As you can see in the photos the name has started to wear but you can still make out all the words. Otherwise it has a couple places of light wear just around the edge. It has a extra spool it is black in color but it is same as the original spool. As you can see in the photos the extra spool is in like new condition and has a full spool of new line not sure of the size or brand of the line.The tag on the inside of the original spool reads Wonderline Generation-3 WF6 TROUT. Vintage Orvis Bamboo Battenkill Flyrod (1955 Calvin Skinner/George Reed)
This is an 8 foot. 7 weight, 2 piece Orvis Battenkill bamboo flyrod with extra tip. Handwritten on the rod is"Impregnated Battenkill. The rod has a cigar grip with a down-locking aluminum reel seat with walnut spacer. The rod is wrapped with redish-brown thread. It weighs 4 3/8 oz. and will cast a 7 weight line. One tip may have been re-wrapped because the thread is a slightly lighter shade on one of the tips, although both tips otherwise appear identical. It has blued nickel silver ferrules. The rod includes the original cloth bag and aluminum tube(there is no label on the tube) Unlike many rods of this vintage, both tips are the exact same length. There are no splits or other visible defects in the bamboo and the gluing on this particular rod is very good. As you can see from the photos, the butt section and both tips are very straight. ... moreThe serial number of the rod is 17382. And the matching serial number is repeated on the rod butt section and on both tips I purchased this rod from a flyrod dealer in 2008. When I bought the rod I inquired of Orvis about the date of manufacture and was informed the"bamboo rod was made 06-09-1955 by Calvin Skinner and George Reed. I still have the original email from Orvis and can forward the email or you can make your own inquiry with Orvis. I bought this rod to add it to my"working rod" collection and I have trout fished with this rod a couple of times just to try it out. The rod has typical full flex action found in bamboo flyrods(and I landed a couple of small trout with it) Otherwise. This rod has remained stored in its tube. As you can see from the photos. There is no damage to the ferrules, the guides, or the wood. The wraps all appear to be in good condition. The cork is also in excellent shape. The overall condition of this rod is very good to excellent. I hate to part with this rod. But the kids have all moved out and my wife says I need to downsize my fishing and hunting gear to fit into a smaller house.

The reel and spools are all in the titanium color. You can find these reels, but the spools in size IV are getting increasingly harder to find. The spools(including the one on the reel) and all spooled with backing and fly lines. The lines include a Scientific Anglers Mastery Bass Bug WF8F, a Cortland 555 Dyna-Tip floating line in size WF8F, a Cortland 444SL Steady Sink type 6(full sinking line) in size WF8S, a Rio Bonefish floating line in size WF8F and a Rio Saltwater Intermediate(mint green w/clear tip) in size WF8I/I. Orvis Battenkill Bamboo Fly Rod 7 1/2' 6wt.
I have a 7 1/2' 6wt Orvis Battenkill Bamboo fly rod with two tips and matching serial numbers on all 3 pieces and rod tube. I contacted Orvis and found out that this rod was made in 1969 by Ron"Whitey" White. And Billy Young. Everything looks great on this rod, both tips are the exact same size. The finish is beautiful as are the wraps. The original owners name was put on the rod by Orvis, I've blacked out part of the name in the photo to preserve his anonymity. The tube is good shape, the label is a little worn, but that is to be expected with something 44 years old. The sock is original, it has a small hole in the toe that has been covered with a piece of duct tape, not really worth mentioning but want to be up front about any and all flaws. I haven't fished this rod personally, but I did take it out and lawn cast ... moreit with a cortland 444 DT, and let's just say if this rod doesn't sell I'll be happy taking it out on the stream. VINTAGE ORVIS 8' BATTENKILL 2/2 BAMBOO FLY ROD S/N30962 & TUBE SOCK TAG BOX
This auction is for a vintage Orvis Battenkill 8’Bamboo 2/2 Fly Rod Configuration that includes extra Tippet section with original Rod Sleeve/Sock. Rod Tube, original 8-page Orvis Hand Tag Rod Booklet and original Triangular Cardboard Shipping Tube including approximately 50% of the original Orvis Paper Shipping Label. The 2/2 HCH 4 ¼ oz. Bamboo Fly rod was built 11/6/61 by Orvis rod builders Calvin Skinner and George Reid working with Wes Jordan who ran the Orvis Company at that time until 1970. The bamboo rod comes with the extra tippet section, all three sections are of equal length with no sets and have S/N 30962 detailed on bamboo adjacent to ferrules, butt section is detailed with“Orvis Impregnated Battenkill” above hook keeper eyelet(SEE PIC) all line guides are complete, red/maroon wraps are tight, ferrules in great shape and ... morerod itself is in excellent shape and well taken care of. The tube label has all the pertinent rod specs and Orvis recommends fishing with a double tapered 6 wgt. Fly Line. Cosmetically, the rod looks great but is not perfect. There are a series of small dings dents on an edge where two bamboo flats intersect just adjacent to butt sections grey agate line guide that have what looks to be tape around them(SEE PIC) These are basically the only distressed marks on the rod plus the normal discoloration/wear of the cork handle and a few worn letters on the word Impregnated(SEE PIC) The green rod sleeve in excellent shape as well as the metal tube with the exception of a good sized dent approximately mid way down and the triangular cardboard shipping tube protected by a wax filmed paper is in very good shape especially the paper shipping label. The box does have some water marks and scuffs, scraps and minor tears on waxed outer and the top section of the box may have been forced into the inside bottom but I can’t tell for sure. This classic reel is made in England, and has a traditional spring and pawl drag system. It is an earlier model with the flat logo plate, metal spool latch cover with swing release, and sculpted knob handle. The reel will hold about 125 yds. of 20 lb. backing with a WF5F line or 100 yds. with a WF6F. With the reel comes a zippered, padded case with the engraved Orvis logo. The reel is in pretty nice shape. There is a small amount of enamel wear. As can be seen in the photos. It works perfectly, with a sweet sounding click pawl drag. Up for sale is this vintage Orvis fly reel case. The case is made of leather and sturdy canvas. With a lambs wool lining. As the rumpled tag shows, it was made in the U.S.A. It has a diameter of about 3 3/4 inches and a height of about 2 1/4 inch. The case is made for smaller, traditional trout reels, and is not sized for reels with wider spools and long handles. An Orvis CFO III or a Battenkill 5/6 or a BBS III will fit, but anything with a diameter much over 3 inches may not. The case is used. But in sound condition. There are small scuffs on the leather panels. The green canvas has a stonewash look to it. The metal zipper tab has some finish loss, with the leather pull tab still in place. Interior looks fine.
