They are generally in good shape. Just a little use marks from rocks in trout streams. The drag knob is also scratched up. Look at the pictures to see the defects. Great working order and I will include 6 wt used sinking and floating line on the spools if you use the buy it now. The line is scientific angler. The floating line is only a year old and has a looped end. The sinking line is a few years old with no looped end. THE LINE IS ONLY INCLUDED WITH BUY IT NOW!

ORVIS Saltwater CFO FLY Fishing REEL Large Size 10 WT Made In Argentina SPEY Here we have a mid-1980s vintage Orvis Saltwater CFO fly reel. This reel series was offered by Orvis in the early to mid 1980s as a saltwater resistant alternative to the freshwater only. Made in England CFO reels. They were made in Argentina, machined from bar stock aluminum, and anodized a satin gold color. Oddly, I don't believe any of these reels were ever stamped with the CFO name, though"Saltwater CFO" was the name used by Orvis in their catalogs and ads. The reels came in 3 different sizes. This example is the biggest model. The Large, which has a 4 inch diameter, a weight of 6.5 oz. and a stated capacity of 200 yds. of 30 lb. dacron backing with a WF10F line. The reel has a spring and pawl drag system, utilizing adjustable tension on the pawls, ... morefrom a coil spring loaded yoke. Either the light spring side(marked L) or heavy spring side(H) pawl can be engaged or both pawls can be engaged to vary the click drag. This limited drag is meant to be augmented with spool rim palming when needed. There was another coil spring drag system used earlier with this series, but it was replaced by this improved one, which is the same type as used with the Orvis Presentation series reels. The reel is in good used condition. All mechanics are good. There is some fine rash on the back side edge of the frame and along the edges of the spool rim. The reel is currently set up for right hand retrieve with the"heavy" pawl engaged. But it can be switched to any other setting. The vintage English-made Orvis C.F.O. IV Fly Reel& Spare Spool being auctioned here are in excellent used condition. As the pictures show. There is very little cosmetic wear or tear evident about the reel or spools' rimmed edges and face given its obvious age, with no major chips, gouges, dents, dings, rubs or scrapes noticed. The reel foot still appears straight and tight with no signs of damage or abuse witnessed, and a close inspection of the reel's interior confirms all pieces of the adjustable dual-check click-pawl drag still perfectly intact with no evidence of excessive wear or tear found. A quick test of the reel's drag confirms smooth and increasing tension throughout its entire adjustable range with no stutter, stick, or hesitation experienced, and the spool release-mechanisms and handle knobs were additionally confirmed in perfect working order on both spools as well. Here a vintage HARDY made ORVIS CFO lV FLY REEL this is one of the best reels I have ever fished. This reel is almost perfect I have really taken care of my stuff. HARDY went and built another piece of work from the heavy alloy frame.Brass reel foot, and line guards and went and painted it a gorgeous winter green which shows off all its brass components. This little power house has a perfect clicker drag that is a wonder to fish similer to the princes except for the tensioner but I actually like it a little better CFO. As I said its pretty much perfect except some very faint rubes around the rims. It also has a case and is 3 inches and can fish left or right handed as well there is not a lot of these around of this caliber as well and made in England by hardy for Orvis. thanks. Posted with

Very nice classic Orvis click and pawl fly reel with a 6wt sinking line. Some small superficial scratches and a few small dings. As shown in the last picture the reel rubs a little on the inside of the spool. It is not really noticeable when fishing. But it is there when I am moving the spool slowly in my living room. Up for auction is a classic CFO II(2) click and pawl with a leather case(I don't think its the original leather case) with rivets. The reel is already loaded with backing and 1 wt line. The numbering on the reel looks like a III but is actually a CFO II(2) based on the measurement of the diameter on the spool(see picture 12 from ad in a 1975 Orvis Catalogue) This reel was made in England by Hardy. This reel has been used and still has a lot of life left in it. As you can in the pictures there is a piece of metal missing in the spool(picture 7) This spool is rubbing a on the frame as you can see in pictures 10 and 11. Despite the dent and the spool rubbing the frame the reel still functions and the spindle does not appear to be warped or bent. It has a diameter of about 3 3/4 inches and a height of about 2 1/4 inch. The case is made for smaller, traditional trout reels, and is not sized for reels with wider spools and long handles. An Orvis CFO III or a Battenkill 5/6 or a BBS III will fit, but anything with a diameter much over 3 inches may not. The case is used. But in sound condition. There are small scuffs on the leather panels. The green canvas has a stonewash look to it. The metal zipper tab has some finish loss, with the leather pull tab still in place. Interior looks fine. This reel was barely used and is in perfect working order. The only issue I see with this reel is some minor handling marks on the reel in as shown in the pictures these scratches are very minor. Auctioning my Orvis CFO Disc II. The reel is in great shape with only light signs of wear from normal use. The reel in the photo is the reel being auctioned. Reel is smooth and drag works perfectly. No issues whatsoever that I can see. Orvis backs their products like crazy so even if something did come up. Just bring it in or call them. Right now it has a Gen3 Orvis Wonderline on it. Classic Hardy Bro. Orvis CFO II Reel xtra spool. In pristine condition mechanically. Handles are perfect, springs and gears are strong and show no wear. Full disclosure: small wear and tear on edges and paint is badly flaked on back. Shows no rust or degradation to metal whatsoever. Max line weight would 5 ideal for 3 or 4 wt trout fishing. Perfect for that brook and creek specialist. one of the best reels ever made. Includes second spool as well as two well worn suede wool lined reel bags.

INTERNATIONAL BIDDERS! Sorry this auction is US only due to issues with eBay's global shipping program. Up for auction: You are bidding on a British-made Orvis CFO III Disc fly reel. Plus additional spare spool. One of the true classic fly reels made in the past 30 years, these were and still remain the absolute favorite reels of many anglers, both for fishing and collecting. This would balance out most any 3, 4 or 5 wt fly rod setup, and would be right at home on most any trout stream, from the Battenkill in NY, to the Itchen in England, all the way out West to the Madison or Gallatin. Whatever the quarry, this reel is up to the task. This reel and spare spool are in used but good to very good condition. Signs of use include scratches on frame and spool rims. Light to moderate boat rash on bottom or frame side. Reel foot shows light ... morewear and signs of being mounted. Nickel silver hardware on these is still nice and bright with little to no signs of tarnish. For these reasons, we’ve conservatively rated this reel and spool as a 7/10, with 10 being new. Again, please note these are Made In England. Comes complete with original Orvis reel case. Here is an opportunity to get a great 5 wt reel and spool. Whether for fishing or collecting, all for a very reasonable price(low reserve. The closest comparison is a current limited CFO III from Orvis(non disc too) which sells for $700 without a spare spool. Orvis CFO III (5-6 wt) Disc Drag
Orvis CFO III for line weights 5-6. 4 oz. 3" diamete r. Balance out modern graphite rods nicely and have a very smooth disc drag. This Orvis CFO III reel shows minor signs of use(light wear around the rim) operates the same as when it was out box. Recently cleaned and lubed and is ready to be fished. Comes with roughly 50 yds of white 20 lb dacron backing. Thanks for looking at this Orvis CFO III which appears to have been discontinued by Orvis for the coming season.

They don't build them like they use to" unless one pays $695.00 for the Limited Edition CFO III. Manufactured by Hardy. Nickel silver line guard. Adjustable spring and pawl drag. CFO multiplier with a retrieve rate of 1 2/3 to 1. CFO's of this vintage were cast and then machined. The spring and pawl mechanisms are held in place by rivets. Which show on the back of the reel. Line: Orvis Green Mountain#5 Floating with 100 yards of 20 lb backing. Reel& case show very little wear. I believe my family member purchased this reel in 1977.
