Vintage Original Orvis CFO II Fly Reel Frame (and optional spool)
Rare opportunity to add to your collection or replace your broken frame! Here's the true story: through a previous ebay purchase. The seller included this CFO III frame(without spool or reel seat post) I replaced the reel seat with a newer one from Orvis(its all they could offer) and put a Hardy Bros Marquis 2/3 sppol on it. The reel works fine. As you can see in the pictures(2) the new reel post is new, and in(5& 6) there is a slight gap between the frame and spool. I have not had any problem with line getting caught up in there. The reel is just like my Hardy Marquis 2/3, so I don't need this one. Now, that being said, Orvis has not made this reel for many, many years and now is offering a replica at an expensive price! If you already have the original classic CFO III, then here's your frame. Thanks for looking! Up for auction is an Orvis CFO III fly reel made in England by Hardy. This is the older model with the riveted pawls. I purchased this reel sometime in the 70's. And fished it 2 weeks out of the year most every year since then. It is set for a left hand wind but can be changed to right. The reel operates great and is quite smooth. Many great trout have been pulled from the Beaverkill River with this reel. Cosmetically there is light edge wear, no apparent dents or scratches, and all of the parts are original. I tried to take pictures of all the angles. This reel was submitted to Orvis about 9 months ago for a cleaning. And to spool onto it new Orvis Hydros 6 weight forward line w/ Dacron backing. Spring and click pawl fly reel made for Orvis by Hardy Brothers of Alnwick, England- circa 1974. Three hole ported reel foot. Reel is 3 and 1/4 of an inch in diameter by 1 and 3/16ths of an inch wide(excluding handle and drag knob) and weighs 3.7 ounces. Most suitable for 5-8 weight lines/rods, capacity- WF6F plus 100 yards of 20lb Micron backing. Spool opening is 3/4 of an inch wide. Reel is in good condition mechanically: screws and rivets are all tight, handle is straight, uncracked and turns smoothly, spool is tight without any noticeable warping or wobbles. Spool rim and edge show considerable wear and there was a flat spot at 5 oclock that I repaired. There is obvious surface loss ... moreor rash from the reel not having been dried completely prior to prolonged storage effecting approximately 60 percent of the finish on the back of the frame and the frame edge as well as the inside surface of the bottom pillar. The original nickel silver 2-way line guide had several nasty line grooves in it so I replaced it with a new one. Reel can be fished with right or left hand retrieve by simply reversing the click pawls. Minimal"drag" regulation may be applied via a plastic knob on the reverse which causes tension springs to exert pressure on the click pawls. Additional drag pressure may be applied manually by palming the spool rim. Includes a very nice generic(not Hardy or Orvis product) cloth and nylon, zippered, padded reel case- not shown. A classic early vintage Hardy made Orvis IV that is admittedly not the most eye appealing example of this very popular collectable I have ever sold but still quite scarce with lots of fishable years left in it. Orvis CFO 3 20th Anniversary Reel Vintage 1991 Made in England
I've had this reel since 1991 when I bought it new. It is in excellent. Maybe mint condition. Here is some info on the history of the reel: 1991 The CFO VI is once again reintroduced. At this point the 123. III, IV and VI are available. A new anniversary edition is available, to commemorate the 20th year of the CFO reels. These reels were machined from bar stock aluminum, and had a platinum finish. This edition was a size III, and was designed to accept spools from standard reels. I recommend this reel for a 4 or 5 weight rod. It is easily set up for right or left hand retrieve. It includes the original Orvis reel case. Very collectable. This is my last of 4 I've slowly sold over the years. I hate to get rid of it. But I'm just not using it at this point.

Really nice reel. Used it twice with an 8'ft 2wt Superfine and was great. Really nicely balanced etc. I think this would be great for long 2 wt's all 3wts and 4wt with limited backing. 5 would be a stretch. Just have too many reals and clearing out the stable a bit. Orvis Superfine Touch 4wt Fly Rod w/ CFO II Reel And Safe Passage Travel Case
I have a very lightly used Orvis 4wt fly fishing combo for sale. The whole package is absolutely mint with the exception of a tiny scratch on the bottom edge of the reel frame. I couldn't get the scratch to show up in the pics. It's so small. I am very particular about my gear and its care. I only used the combo four times for wild trout. It casts like a dream. The rod is an Orvis Superfine Touch 8'4wt, 4 piece, Full Flex in mint condition. In my opinion this is the best looking rod Orvis has ever produced. It was $500. It comes with the rod sock and carbon fiber tube. The reel is an Orvis CFO II in a bronze color with real wood handle. It is loaded with Orvis' top of the line Hydros Superfine WF-4-F 4wt trout line and backing. It has one very small scratch on the bottom edge of the reel frame. You really have to be looking ... morefor it to see it. It comes with the padded reel case. The reel was $300 and the line was $90. I'm also including a new Orvis Safe Passage travel case that holds the rod and reel and also has a zippered pouch for accessories. This was $120. All in all. I have for sale a near mint Vintage early 70's screw spindle Made in England Orvis CFO V with suede pouch. It appears to have been placed on a rod at some point but do not know if it was ever used. It is in remarkable condition for its age. Couple very small nicks on frame as seen in pics. Very hard to see. The sound is incredible and the inside of reel is mint also. Springs seem to be in great condition also. When I purchased it for my collection the drag was in the off position. I have for sale a mint Vintage early 70's screw spindle Made in England Orvis CFO lll with suede pouch and warranty sheet. It appears to have been placed on a rod at some point but do not know if it was ever used. It is in remarkable condition for its age.
