It would be great to use on a small bamboo or graphite fly rod of your choice The reel is marked made in England I am not sure of the exact manufacture date. The reel is set up for LEFT HANDED RETRIEVE but can be also set up for right handed retrieve easily. The reel remains in very very good condition. There is light paint wear around the rim but very minor. The spare spool was probably used but it sure looks any use would have been very limited. There is no fly line on the spare spool-only backing. The line and backing on the reel is in nice condition-there is a sticker on the spool thats says AIR CEL WF-5-F The Orvis padded reel case is in great shape and the Orvis cloth liner for the spare spool is in fine shape-the Orvis lettering is fading quite a bit on the cloth. Orvis Madison Bamboo Fly Rod and Orvis Vortex VO2 III Reel
I bought this rod and two others from Mike Clark at South Creek Ltd. in Lyons Colorado when I found out that the waiting list for his custom made rods was between 5-6 years. Mike had bought these from a collector and personally inspected them before selling them. Since I bought all three he gave me a great deal at $500 each. I then spent a couple hundred more on reels. I'm auctioning an Orvis Mid Arbor IV reel and spare spool. Suitable for line size 7 or 8. Both the reel and spare spool are loaded with approximately 100 yds of 20# dacron backing. The reel has been lightly used and the spare spool has never been fished, though it had a line loaded on it. Both are in excellent condition with the exception of a scratch/nick on the rim of the reel. It's not a dent and it's just cosmetic. The reel is set up for left-hand retrieve but is easily changed to right-hand operation. Up for auction is this gently used. Orvis Battenkill Bar Stock II fly reel in the titanium finish. The BBS II is a 2.75 in. diameter, standard arbor reel, weighing in at 3 5/8 oz. It is machined for aircraft grade, bar-stock aluminum, with an offset-gear Rulon disc drag. Orvis puts the recommended line sizes for the reel in the 3 to 5 wt. range. The listed capacity is 100 yds. of 20 lb. dacron with a WF4F line, and 75 yds. with a WF5F. The reel is in very nice shape. There are finish rubs on the reel foot from being on a rod. The frame and spool have no scratches. The reel has some backing and a WF-5-F fly line. Which, I believe to be a Orvis line. It's an older model line, but still looks decent to me. The reel is set up for left hand retrieve, and is reversible to right hand wind. With the reel comes a zippered Orvis pouch in excellent ... moreshape.

An Orvis rod and reel carrier that will carry three rigs. Will fit up to 3 2 piece 9' rods. Reels are left attatched to rods. And fit in a padded area of the carrier with dividers to help prevent the reels from scratching each other. It has a diameter of about 3 3/4 inches and a height of about 2 1/4 inch. The case is made for smaller, traditional trout reels, and is not sized for reels with wider spools and long handles. An Orvis CFO III or a Battenkill 5/6 or a BBS III will fit, but anything with a diameter much over 3 inches may not. The case is used. But in sound condition. This classic reel is made in England, and has a traditional spring and pawl drag system. These adjustable drag systems are meant primarily to control spool over run. Additional drag pressure can be applied by palming the spool rim. The reel will hold about 120 yds. of 20 lb. backing with a WF3F line or 95 yds. with a WF4F. Included with the reel is a drawstring pouch. The reel is in pretty good shape. There is a modest amount of enamel wear. As can be seen in the photos. It works perfectly, with a sweet sounding click pawl drag. The reel is set up for left hand retrieve. It can be changed to right hand by reversing the line and the pawl settings(I'll include a diagram showing correct pawl positions) ... moreOn the reel is some backing and a WF-4-F line. I have two Cabela's Cahill(Hardy Clone) reels for sale. The 0 and the.5 are the hardest of the two to find. The 0 comes with an Orvis WF4F line. The.5 comes with a floating and a sinking line. I am unsure of the weight but I estimate a 5/6. The sinking line looks to be a Cortland Peach and the other I believe is an Ultra. Both reels are in very good condition. Shipping to lower 48 only.
