Auctioning my Orvis CFO Disc II. The reel is in great shape with only light signs of wear from normal use. The reel in the photo is the reel being auctioned. Reel is smooth and drag works perfectly. No issues whatsoever that I can see. Orvis backs their products like crazy so even if something did come up. Just bring it in or call them. Right now it has a Gen3 Orvis Wonderline on it. Rim control, click spring and pawl fly reel made for Orvis by Hardy Brothers of Alnwick, England. Reel is 3 inches in diameter by 1 1/16 inches wide(excluding handle and drag knob) and weighs 3.1 ounces. Most suitable for 3 to 5 weight lines/rods, capacity: WF4F plus 225 feet of 15lb Micron backing. Reel is in superb used condition both mechanically and cosmetically. Spool is sound and very tight. Handle is straight, un-cracked and turns smoothly. There is no surface corrosion internally or externally. Spool edge and frame rim wear is very minimal. Orvis DXR 7/8 Fly Reel with 2 extra spools & lines made in USA by Lamson Reels
Up for auction is my spare Atlantic Salmon reel a Orvis DXR 7/8 fly-reel which was originally made for Orvis by Lamson Reels. Now Lamson Waterworks.This DXR reel is used but in very good condition as you can see from the pictures. Yes there is a bit of reel rash and a few dings from fly fishing in Canada but mechanically it is just fine. The reel is currently set up for left hand retrieve but can be converted. The reels comes with the original Orvis leather& canvas reel case plus two( like new) spare spools that each have it's original Orvis cloth bag. There is a WF8F line on the reel with Dacron backing plus a WF7F line plus backing on one spare spool and a WF7F/S(sinking) line plus backing on the other spare spool. A complete package ready to fly fish for almost any medium to large fresh water fish. It has taken more than a few ... moresalmon and been to Alaska but never in salt water! Look closely at the pictures as I tried to capture every angle and every little blemish on the reel and foot. Classic spring and click pawl fly reel made by Hardy Brothers of Alnwick, England(circa 1978) Reel is 3 and 1/2 inches in diameter by 1 3/8 inches wide(excluding drag knob and handle) and weighs 4.0 ounces. Most suitable for 6 to 10 weight lines/rods, capacity: WF9F plus 200yds of 20lb Dacron backing. Exceptional condition both mechanically and cosmetically. Spool is sound and tight- no wobbles or warping. Handle is straight, uncracked and turns smoothly. Frame edge and spool rim wear is significantly lighter than one would typically expect to see in most used reels of this vintage. There are a few small dings here and there ... morethat are hardly worth mentioning but I am anyway just for the record. Light scratches on top of the reel foot and general overall fading of the finish- after all the reel is over 35 years old! Reel can be fished with right or left hand retrieve by simply reversing the click pawls- duel directional nickle silver line guide attached to the bottom frame flange with 2 screws. Minimal spool over-running and"drag" regulation may be applied via a plastic knob on the reverse which turns a metal cam that causes springs to exert varying amounts of pressure on click pawls floating against the gear teeth at the base of the spool spindle. The reel is remarkably light weighing a mear 3.5 ounces- roughly 60% less than comparable Hardy reels cast from the more traditional aluminum alloy. Most suitable for 5 to 7 weight lines/rods, capacity: WF6F plus 200 feet of 20lb Micron backing. Reel can be fished with right or left hand retrieve by simply inverting the single click pawl. Offered for sale is a vintage Orvis Madison III fly reel. The reel has seen very little use and remains in NEAR MINT CONDITION. The reel is ready to use immediately and fully spooled with a Cortland 444 double taper floating line and backing. The reel can be either right or left hand retrieve- currently right handed. The reel is complete with the Orvis reel sock(a little dirty) and Cortland fly line cleaner. And the paperwork found inside the reel sock Pictures show exactly what you will get. The reel was with the outstanding Fisher graphite 9' fly rod I also have up for sale this week- the fly rod is a 6/7 weight graphite rod that was only used a couple of times at the most. Fisher rods were made in California and were wonderful rods that are very similar in quality to the R L WINSTON rods. Some Hardy graphite rods, and some Orvis graphite ... morerods. It is my understanding that Fisher Rods made rod blanks for all the company's mentioned and others.

This is a right hand wind reel- I don't know if it can be switched to left hand wind but I noticed in the catalog that Orvis sold both RH and LH wind models. Comes with a nice suede and sheepskin lined zippered case. You should read the interesting article in the Antique Tackle Observor(available online) if you haven't already. I spooled a test line on it and my wife and I took turns playing the salmon. When the line was going out. The handle remains ... morefixed in place with a smooth drag. If you pull back on the handle, the drag is decreased(but not so much that the reel goes into free spool and overruns the line) The idea being that the lesser resistance will cause the downstream running fish to turn back into the current. The decrease in drag is particularly noticeable when you are playing the"salmon" You can also apply additional drag as needed by pressing the cork button on the back of the handle into the spool.
