Design is unlike anything previously or since produced by Hardy sold under their own name. Reel is 3 7/16 inches in diameter by 1 1/16 inches wide. Cast of a newly developed magnesium alloy the reel is extremely light weighing a mere 3.1 ounches- more than 30% lighter than comparible sized Hardy reels using traditional cast aluminum alloys. Most suitable for 5-7 weight rods. Reel is in good mechanical condition and has all its original parts with no loose rivets or screws. Cosmetically I would rate this reel as just fair to good- it has obviously been well used. Unfortunately, the finish Hardy used plagued this series of reels during its entire production. Reel can be fished with right or left hand retrieve by simply inverting the single click pawl and reversing the single screw, double prong chromium line guard. Minimal"drag" may be applied via a plastic knob on the reverse which works on a spring that regulates the pressure on the single click pawl. Terrific clicking sound. Includes extra spool plus original vinyl reel case both in reasonable decent condition- there is no foam insert in the case. Former owner's name and phone number scratched into bottom of reel foot. Images should provide all the information necessary to make a reasonably intelligent bid on this lot. However. Vintage C. F. Orvis 1874 Patent Fly Reel
Orvis 1874 Patent third version fly reel. As noted by the presence of the screw construction rather than riveted and the presence of a screw on oil cap. This reel appears to be all original except for the oil cap. As shown in the photos, the oil cap looks original but it is a replacement part. The reel is straight(not bent) turns freely and the"clicker" mechanism is strong for a reel of this age. The foot of this Orvis reel has been modified very slightly on both ends as shown in the photos. The reel shows wear from usage but it has retained almost all of its original nickel plating.

I have not uncoiled it but it appears to be some kind of thin white braided nylon line at the start of the spool and then progresses to a heavier yellow line for the remainder. Of sturdy construction from machined bar stock aluminum, and recommended for use with 7 and 8 wt. lines. This is the first version of the DXR, which was made in the U.S.A. allegedly by Lamson. It is similar to a Lamson LP-3, but with the drag system of an Orvis Battenkill 7/8 Disc reel. The reel has a soft click on the retrieve, with a harder click on the outgo(pawl can be easily disengaged for quieter reel operation) It is set up for left hand retrieve, but can be changed to right(flipping over the center gear on the spindle reverses the drag direction) The reel is well used. With ample rock rash along the back rim of the frame. The Orvis emblem is ... moremissing from the back plate. One spool has a shallow rim dent, but it doesn't affect the reel operation. The reel works fine with both spools. I have set the drag range at what I think is the best setting. It is a bit strong at the low end, so not recommended for the lightest tippets. These drag systems can be adjusted for different ranges, and I will include instructions from Orvis, should the buyer not like the current range. One spool is lined with backing and a WF-7-F Scientific Anglers Mastery Steelhead taper line. While the other has backing and a Rio WF-7-F/S Density Compensated Type 3 sink tip line. EARLY VTG ORVIS CFO IV Screw Back Fly Reel W/ SPARE SPOOL England Hardy
This is one of the earliest Hardy made CFO IV's with the screw back spindle. It is in excellent working condition and has one of the nicest. Smoothest clicks that I have ever heard on a reel. When I acquired it, the screw for the spindle was loose, which explains some of the scrapes on the inside of the spool, but I have completely gone over the reel and lubricated it with Hot Sauce. It is now in perfect working order and I will guarantee it or your money back. The spare spool had a tiny piece of the inside lip broken off, I filed the sharp corners so that it would not grab the fly line(shown in last pic) Works perfect. Shipping is $6.50 to the lower 48.

This is an ORVIS LIGHT SALMON BAMBOO FLY ROD that was built by George Reed and Calvin Skinner in Wes Jordan's fly shop in 1960. The rod is a 9 foot. Two piece, 9 weight and is in excellent condition. I bought it to go after Steel Head but never got the chance. I have used it instead to fish Mid-West Large Mouth Bass and spring Pike. This is an"Impregnated" rod, meaning it is water proofed without varnishes. You can put this fly rod away wet for the night without the worry of softening or ruining the finish. Originally this rod came with a"super-fine" style grip, Orvis loves to use these) they are tiny and well suited for 4 weight rods. I had it replaced with a proper sized big game"full-wells" style grip. This made the rod much more controllable and comfortable to both cast and fight fish with. This is a ... morevery powerfull fly rod that will lift a lot of heavy line and deliver it with accuracy. All pieces are full length and insanely straight. 1989 Orvis 7' 9" Far & Fine 5wt graphite fly rod and 1989 Orvis CFO III reel
7' 9" Orvis Far& Fine graphite fly rod built in 7/1989 and Orvis CFO III reel(built in England) and bought new in 1989 with the rod. I am the original owner of the rod and reel. The rod is in excellent condition and has been used very little over the years. It has always been stored in the original rod bag and metal rod tube that it came in. The reel has the original reel pouch and is in excellent condition other than a small chip in the reel spool as shown in the pictures. I bought them new at a shop in TN used them for a summer then went in the military where they saw little to no use. I can take specific pictures of either item if you want to see more detail.

Vintage Orvis no.1 spin reel This spin reel was made about 20 years ago, I believe it was made by Ryobi& wieghs 9oz. It will hold 240yds. of 4lb. test. It is in excellent working condition as everything works almost perfectly. This reel has paint wear. On most of the metal parts. The bail, drag, gears, and anti-reverse all work great. This reel has a rolling roller and a 5.2/1 gear ratio and it is a grade 8/9+ and is a good quality fishing reel. The reels I sell are 98% used. And in between 20& 100 years old. Most are far from perfect, so I some times use the Orca grading system, the first no. is how it looks and the second how it works. A 5/5 would be for parts and a 10/10 would be new. The spool is in very nice shape. It is perfectly straight. With no dents or dings.
