PFLUEGER MEDALIST 1494 Fly Reel - Circa late 30's early 40's
American made. Pflueger MEDALIST, and from the construction I would put it late 30's or early 40's. Model 1494 that had a reel diameter 3 1/4 inches and a thickness of about 1 1/4 inches. Not including projections. This reel. Despite it 70 +/ years of age, retains 80% of its black paint. Has the"Old style" medal spool latch cover, sculpted pillars, round medal line guide, and medal drag knob. The reel is un-cleaned, and as found, allowing the buyer to restore or leave as is. I am not a fly fisherman. I have attempted to describe this reel accurately, but the pictures should be the judge of condition. This classic reel is in very good condition. Some light scrapes on the gunmetal finish. The bottom of the frame reads"DIAMOLITE/LINE GUARD No.1495 MADE IN/AKRON,O. U.S.A. The spool release cover is white plastic and the handle is mottled ivory Pyralin. Diameter of the spool is 3 5/8" width of spool 3/4" This is a right hand wind reel with a plastic drag knob on the rim of the tail plate. Description: 2) 1969-70 Pflueger Medalist 1494 DA Fly Fishing Reels- Made in the USA Marked: Pflueger Medalist. Made in the USA, 1994 DA The Enterprise Manufacturing Company officially changed its name to Pflueger. Shakespeare Tackle Company acquired Pflueger and manufactured the reels in Akron. Ohio, from 1966-69. The letters DA were added after the model numbers. Measures approximately 3-1/2" in diameter and 1" wide. I have photographed both reels side by side and marked them with a 1 and 2 so that you can tell the difference between the two. Both are in good condition with some wear to the black paint. The center piece of the 2nd reel has a crack in it(round piece with Pflueger Medalist on it) Both come with line. Both turn without problems. Clicking around, and rewinding. There are 8 pictures Offered for sale is a real nice vintage Pflueger Medalist 1494 1/2 DA"wide spool" FLY REEL. The reel was made in the USA and remains NEAR MINT IN BOX. One little paint wear mark on the side(shown up close in a photo) and some light dust from storage. The reel is set up for right handed retrieve but can be either right or left. The reel is complete with the original box. Paperwork. The reel was used some but must have been well taken care of- VERY VERY VERY CLEAN The reel has a nice fly line with backing already installed so the reel is ready to use immediately with the addition of a new fly leader. There are 9 pictures Offered for sale is a real nice vintage Pflueger Medalist 1498 fly reel& extra spool. Made in the USA This is the larger size Medalist made for STEELHEAD& SALMON fly fishing. The reel and spare spool have seen very little use-both remain in great used condition. The fly reels frame has just a couple of paint wear marks from use and storage. There is a older fly line on both the reel and spare spool that probably could be used but the line is probably around 30-35 years old on each and you may want to change to a modern fly line. Both the spool on the fly reel and the extra spool will need a new fly leader before use The reel is currently set up for right handed retrieve but can be changed to left real easy. The reel and spare spool were found in a recent estate sale in my area exactly how they are pictured-a little ... moredust from storage but overall as clean as used fly reels come. Pictures show exactly what you are getting.

All paint, markings are in great condition. The reel has a Diamolite Line Guard with the letter F and both were made in the USA. 2 Vintage Pflueger Fly Fishing Reels: Medalist No.1495 & Progress No.1774
This auction is for a lot of 2 Vintage Pflueger fly fishing reels: a Medalist No.1495 and a Progress No.1774. Both reels are fully functional and in good condition. The Medalist is 4" in diameter. Has an aluminum alloy spool and frame, push button quick release spool, external drag system, and convertible left/right retrieve. It has some normal wear for something almost 75 years old; scuffing, scratches, and some pitting, but works well. The Progress is 3" in diameter, has an aluminum spool, and a gunmetal finish over a brass frame. The gunmetal finish is in great shape with very little sign of wear, and the reel works great. These reels are both highly collectible. I generally ship the day after payment is received. Thanks for viewing.
