Pflueger Medalist 1498 Fly Reel With Box & Paperwork Circa 1963
Set up for left hand wind. Mechanically excellent. Excellent for use. Has reinforced spool and back plate. Reel has some paint loss. Includes the original paperwork and excellent box. The early 1960's era Medalists manufactured in Akron. Ohio before Pflueger was purchased by Shakespeare make excellent users. When production moved to Arkansas in 1969 the smart production engineers found ways to make these cheaper and cheaper. For instance the 1498 models abondoned the reinforced back plate and spool. The reel foot on all models was welded together instead of screwed together, the ratchet bearing composition was changed from bronze to pressed metal, three rivets were used to hold spools together instead of six. This is for the 1" wide Pflueger Medalist Spools on the 1494 1/2. 1495 1/2 and 1498 models. Will work with the three rivet spool design that came out in 1965 or so; earlier versions of this part used on the six rivet spools were peened in place in the spool and could not be removed.

Both reels in very good to excellent cosmetic condition. Almost too good to use. Mechanically Excellent these reels will last your lifetime of trout fishing. Both reels are excellent versions for use and can be converted back to right hand wind if you would like. The 1494 made in Akron. Ohio has the six rivet spool and the trademark spool cover. Manufactured from 1959 to 1965. The 1494 1/2 DA was made in Arkansas probably in the early 1970's. It has the three rivet spool with the Made In U.S.A. spool cover.

I have not fished this rod but have lawn cast it. It casts HDH(6) really well and lays it very nicely. This rod is a light action full flex fly rod and will cast the smallest ... moreflies, making some of the best presentations you'll ever see, feels very much like bamboo. The Pflueger Medalist Fly Reel you see in the pictures came with this rod when I acquired it, I was going to separate them but they look so nice together that's how they'll sell. Its time appropriate(50's early 60's) and a nice match to the rod. The fly lines seem dried out I don't know if their worth cleaning& conditioning or buy new, I'll leave that to the new owner. Pflueger Medalist No.1594, , Left-hand-wind, early 1930s, 100%, nothing missing
This Medalist No. 1594 is from Pflueger's first regular production run after they received their patent on the new design. Hence. It is stamped Patented on the lower frame. It is of the original spring, click and pawl design, and it is one of the rarest of that production since is was designed and sold as a left-hand retrieve rather than the standard right-hand which constituted the bulk of their early production. This reel predates all of the later designs that incorporated adjustable drags. To round-ring line guard and the fixed sculpted pillars are also typical of these early models. One of the nice surprises is that these reels, all now 80 years old(or nearing it) can still be fished if one wishes to. These were, and are, durable pieces of equipment for the traditional fly fisher.

Vintage Pflueger Medalist by Shakespeare 1495 CJ Single Action Fly Reel & Box
You are bidding on a beautiful vintage Pflueger Medalist by Shakespeare 1495 CJ single action fly fishing reel in its complete original box and with its original set of instructions. Made in Japan the reel is in excellent condition with no rash. Dents or marks. It comes with the stainless steel line guard to prevent rubbing on the side plates. The rod has 13/16” pillars. A 3 5/8” plate and weighs 6 oz. Mechanically it’s in excellent condition. The reel is spooled but I don’t know the rating of the line. The exterior of the box is in good to very good condition with some of the graphics missing. But is unusual in that it still has the internal Styrofoam packing material cut to fit the reel and the Pflueger emblem stuck on it. The instructions are in excellent condition and provide a wealth of information about this reel and other fly reels ... morethat Pflueger made. It would be difficult to find an example of this model of Pflueger reels in this good condition. International buyers are welcome. The price for shipping and handling is for shipping in the US. Pflueger Medalist No.1495, mtctd late 40s-early 50s, 99% mint, 100% mechanically
Your are bidding on a 99.9% mint reel from the laste 1940s or very early 1950s. The reel is in new mechanical condition. But it has one small scratch on the top face of the rim- you'll see it in the first photo posted. Other than that it is perfect. It is stamped"Patented" which indicates it is from the years mentioned. It is a right-hand retrieve reel and not one that can be flipped to LH. I've owned it for years. But never fished it provaily because I prefer left hand retrieve reels. Can't go wrong if you you are looking for a nice reel to balance a cane or fiberglass rod.or if you just want to set it aside to sell later- these reels aren't going to depreciate with time. US Pflueger Medalist 1495 DA with Extra Spool, Wet Cel DT-6-S and Air Cel DT-6-F
I purchased this reel new in the 1970s and used it from time-to-time until about 1987. The reel is in excellent working order. But, as you can see from the photos, the cosmetic condition is definitely"used" The lines are by Scientific Anglers. And both the floating line and the sinking line are double taper 6 weight. I can't guarantee the condition of the fly lines, but they look OK as they lie on the reel.
