Pflueger MEDALIST 1495 1/2 with custom solid spool and brass drag
This reel was built by Shorelines South an Orvis shop in Fort Lauderdale Florida and set-up for inshore salt water fishing in the keys.It has an upgraded solid aluminum spool that is black anodized and made in America.The reel also features a brass drag upgrade. And comes spooled with 250 yards of white#20 Dacron and a Cortland blue 444 WF 8I saltwater line.This reel was not used much 2-3 times and is missing one screw and has some paint chips on the center of the side plate. see pic)

This is a Vintage Pflueger Medalist Fly Reel. This is Model 1498 and there is line loaded. If the leather pouch is accurate the line is WF-5. The spool is removable. There is some edge wear but the reel is in good working order. It was made in the USA and is built with screws not rivets. The reel measures 4" in diameter and 1.5" thick. Classic Pflueger No.1495 Medalist Fly Reel Made In Akron Ohio With Sinking Line
This reel is in very good to excellent condition. The rim of the head plate reads"DIAMOLITE/LINE GUARD No.1495 MADE IN/AKRON O. U.S.A. This is a right hand retrieve reel. Diameter of the reel is 3 5/8" Width of spool 3/4" There is a permanent click drag and a variable friction drag knob on the tail plate rim. This reel is loaded with what looks like a sinking line in good condition, unknown weight. For some reason it has a long length of monofilament in place of a proper leader. This is a classic American reel.

I found a box of old vintage fishing reels at a local Estate sale. These are just a couple. The first is a Fly-C Champ made by Champion Sports equipment Co. of Chicago. Ill. USA. This reel measures app, 4" across. Reel seems to be in fine working condition, but does need a good cleaning. The second is a Pflueger Medalist. It also seems to be in fine working order. It measures app. 3" across. Both reels have some paint scrapes and need to be cleaned. I am selling these in as found condition. Pictures were taken indoors with auto flash. Vintage Pflueger Medalist 1494 DA Fly Reel Single Action Rare Fish 1941 WW2 Era
Vintage and original Pflueger Medalist 1494 DA Fly Reel from 1941. Does show some wear on exterior surfaces so please do not expect mint condition. As to functions it seems to work good with clean sppol and good sounding ratchet clicker. Cosmetically nice but has some scattered boat rash. Missing one small side plate screw on outside frame and has a small hairline crack(25% across leaving 75% for fuctionality)on reel foot which does not extend accross foot and should function fine. The outside top of the box does have some issues; it looks as if some kid poked a series of holes in the top of the box to use it as a habitat for some creatures he/she may have captured. The reel appears to be working properly however the black finish does have some rubs and the handle is a little wobbly. The reel could use a little cleaning. There is line on the reel. This is an early model 1494 Medalist with the round line guide and sculpted pillars marked patent pending. The spool has the correct colored handle and metal latch cover. The drag screw is metal as is the drag plate. This reel is for right hand wind and is not reversible. As is to be expected on a reel of this age there is some paint loss. I know this reel has been fished with. Because it has reel seat rubs on the foot, and the leader has been cut back a little and new tippet tied on-but, although the paint does have a few minor nicks and rubs, it doesn't exhibit the degree of edge-rash one expects to see on a used reel. And I can even see how the previous owner accomplished that-the reel is set up for RH retrieve, but the chromed line guide has been turned around for LH retrieve; since the line guide sticks out a 32nd or so from the body of the reel, it, and not the black paint, took the punishment. Clever bugger. Anyhow, the reel is in A9M9 condition(I'd call it M10, except that I refuse to believe in perfection) The floating weight forward line on it felt right when cast with a 6-wt. rod, so I'm assuming it's a WF6F line, and it is backed with what looks ... moreto be 50 yds. of white 20 lb. Here is a scarce automatic fly reel. The Pflueger Medalist Model 575 ED. Reel features a dark brown finish that almost looks dark purple with silver accents. Emblem on the back of the reel is marked Pflueger Medalist 575 Auto. Fly Reel and the back plate is marked at the bottom, Pflueger Model 575 ED. The bottom of the foot is marked Made in U.S.A. Reel shows some wear from use as seen in the pics, mechanically excellent with a strong and functional spring.

The patent application for this reel was issued in 1928. Granted in 1930, so this should date this reel. Overall condition is very good with some light wear to the black finish, wear to the spool. This is a right hand wind reel with a permanent click. It has a circular Diamolite line guide, sculpured pillars, a metal latch cover and an amber Pyralin crank handle.
