Rod has been fished a bit but is in excellent conditions with no marks or scratches. This is a custom built rod and I have spared no expense on the components and the workmanship! Rod comes in a Sage tube and cloth bag with warranty card. The rod is wrapped in dark green with metallic green and gold trim. It accents the black ONE blank very nicely. A factory rod cannot match the quality or workmanship in this rod. The rod was built with a beautiful reel seat made by REC Components. Wood insert is a burl spalted maple. Sage GFL 686 from Winslow Mfg...RARE...Near Perfect..1st Generation Sage Fly Rod
RARE! Rod is in near perfect condition. One of the first graphite rods made by Don Green after he left Fenwick and started selling Sage brand rods under the Winslow Manufacturing name from 1978 to 1980. Serial number is A2012. Rod is 6 wt. 8' 6" Fish some history. Prized by collectors. This“first generation” Sage graphite rod still has many years of fishing left. By today’s standards. The action is softer and buttery smooth. Spectacular for dry fly presentation. It is smooth and soft like glass or bamboo. But with the backbone of graphite to get that extra distance without effort. This rod is near perfect. Especially for its age. Rod is red-brown with no cracks in the finish. All graphics are intact. Cork is in good condition. Cleaned after each use. I think reel seat is Brazilian rosewood. Minor cosmetic scratches on bottom of reel ... moreseat end cap from normal fishing. Rod comes with the original Sage logo brown rod sock and Sage logo aluminum rod tube with brass end and end cap. End cap label is still intact(which is rare) Tube has some minor cosmetic scratches and nicks in the finish. But no dents. I was told on the phone by Sage customer service. That the serial number A2012 designates the 12 th rod of the A2 model of the first run of any rods(A” of the 686 model“2” Last year I took it to a fly fishing show and had the Sage staff examine it before I fished with it after so many years. They all said that there was no deterioration and because it had been stored inside the house(not in garage) It appears good as new. Several of the staff cast the rod and declared it fishable for many more years. All wanted to borrow it to do some dry fly fishing. Staff was not sure as to the exact designation of the serial number of A2102. It has been fished a total of 6 times in the past 30 years. Rod was built by an experienced professional fly rod builder using a genuine factory 1st blank with all hardware matching factory built. Includes factory sock and a non OEM green cordura case. Beautifully constructed and finished. There are a few exceptions from factory specifications: the stripping guide was upgraded, the wrappings have a bronze prime thread with green tipping, and the grip was slightly sanded to a custom fit.
