Adding to the classic, traditional medium action afforded by this gem is the fact that it breaks down into 5 pieces- take this multi-performer- nymphs and dries- anywhere. Having the backbone to nymph all but the deepest water and truly fast flows, the 489 is a technical-nymphing machine and, of course, the dry fly-fishing prowess of the SLT is legendary. Sage 503L fly reel and 2 spare spools! Preemie, must see, VERY rare!
Up for auction: You are bidding on a very rare reel indeed. This is a Sage 503L reel. But it is the uber-rare“preemie” model. This reel was limited to the 300 reels made, and this reel is serial# 202. The story behind this reel is that Hardy was commissioned by Sage to make the entire run of reels for them(which they did. The 503L was meant to be a 3/4wt reel, but Hardy mistakenly built the outside diameter of the first run of reels to the inside diameter specs. Therefore, on the preemie reel, the OD is around 2.5” or so, as opposed to the intended 2.75” which it later became after the initial run was completed. So, there are only 300 of these in existence, also, since the capacity is so much smaller than intended, think of this as being a 1 or 2wt reel for the most part. This reel also comes with 2 additional spools. A rare find indeed(so ... moreframe and 3 spools total, serial number of 202 goes with the frame. There are lines on all 3 spools, one is a 3wt with a clear intermediate tip, one is a WF-1-F Sage line, and the other undetermined, all lines have been used to varying extent. Reel is in good to very good condition. Reel seat shows little wear other than having been rod mounted, almost no rim rash or scratches to speak of. The 2 spare spools are in near mint condition other than having been lined. For these reasons we’ve conservatively rated it as a 8.5/10(with 10 being“new” condition) But again, to find such a rare reel, in this condition, let alone with 2 spare spools, is indeed quite the find. Sage One 11'6" 7 wt switch rod w/ Lamson ARX reel
Sage One 7116-4 is up for bid. I used this stick for two weeks last fall for Erie steelhead. As you can see in the photos. The only flaw on the rod is a nick in the cork at the rear of the front grip. It was my own dumb fault when unhooking a streamer. The rod is in great shape other than that. Included will be a Lamson ARX loaded w/ Rio Switch Chucker 465gr. I'm even throwing in a 5'10' length of T-11. Everything is in great shape. This is a sweet setup. Machined from bar stock aluminum, and sized for use with 5 and 6 weight fly lines. It has a diameter of about 3 5/8 inch and a listed weight of only 3.75 oz. Line capacity is 150 yds. of 20 lb. backing with a WF5F, 100 yds. with a WF6F. It has an adjustable click drag, with a palming rim for additional line pressure, when needed. The reel is in almost new condition. The only marks I could find were some very faint scratches along the spool rim. And tiny rubs at the reel foot corners. Up for auction is a barely used Sage 3400D disc drag spare spool in black. This spool is made for 7/8/9wt fly lines and comes with the original reel case. This spool is in great condition no warps or bends. The only thing that I noticed on the spool was some small nicks on the side of the spool. Which in no way affects the function of the spool. The backing is included with the auction.
