Sockeye Salmon Original Painted Wood Box by Pete Dunthorne. Dated 1989 North Coast Salish design. Upper Skagit Tribe Box has removable lid and measures about 3.25" high. 6 1/8"long and 4.5" wide Condition is very good with minor rubbing on wood stain and a couple of tiny scratches on edge of lid. This item has been displayed by the previous owner. And is not new. I believe the wood is cedar. A similar box is displayed at the Burke Museum in Washington State. And Mr. Dunthorne's work has been honored and displayed at various exhibits. He studied art at the University of Washington. The bottom has P. Dunthorne as well as Upper Skagit Tribe wood burned into the bottom. There is a wonderful fish(salmon? on both sides of the box. I'm not sure how it's made but I don't see any corner seams just those on the bottom where the bottom is joined to the sides! One side does have a small ding but may be able to be buffed out by the right person.you can see it in the picture. It is app. 4.5" tall by app. 4" x 3" across the opening.
