Up for auction is a classic Julius Vom Hofe salmon reel in excellent condition for it's age. Everything works and it's ready to put on your bamboo spey rod and take it fishing. A right hand reel with tension adjusted on the side. It says 4 1/4 inches but the diameter is closer to 4 3/4 inches. A very large and well made reel. There is a Milwards decal and an inscription on reel seat butt cap which reads Vicard Lyon Imported Angleteere. The rod was manufactured in England and then imported into France based on these inscriptions. This is a heavy duty rod that can indeed be used as spey rod for big trout and salmon. The rod is its original excellent condition and I believe it was made in the early 1900’s. The 17” wooden handle appears to be made of Mahogany. The ferrules and reel seat components are all high quality brass. There a total of six eye guides and a tip top eye. The rod fits together perfectly when assembled. Sage Z-Axis 5110 5wt 11'0" Spey Rod
This is a Sage 5110 11'0" 5 weight fly rod. It is light enough to be used for both single-handed or two handed casting. It's a very good nymph rod on larger water. Handles spey casts very well and is just a blast to use. This one has a little chunk missing from the top of the cork handle, but is otherwise in excellent shape. I've used many different spey type rods, and the Z-Axis from Sage has remained one of my all-time favorites. It's painful to get rid of this one as it has so many more years of use ahead of it. Too many rods, too little time" as they say? I never thought I would hear myself say that, but alas, here's one of my favorites on the eBay's. There are some reviews on this unique rod out there. While the rod's lower and upper cork grips do display some staining from past handling, overall they both remain refreshingly free of any major chips, gouges, or excessive missing fill. Though perhaps not quite as lustrously shiny as it once was new. The heavy-duty down-locking reel seat still looks great and functions perfectly too. A close review of the rod's gloss-finish blank from tip to butt reveals the expected minor rubs and nominal surface scrapes in the typical high traffic areas. But no signs of catastrophic abuse like deep scratches, scores, or penetrating nicks were found that would in any way hint the rod's original strength or integrity as compromised. It will definitely throw a Scandi just fine or a longer belly spey. I have a closet full of rods and need to thin the herd. Sage Spey Rod, Graphite 3 GFL 9140-4, 9 line, 14' 0", 7 oz
This is an auction for a Sage Graphite 3 GFL 9140-4 spey casting rod. These were among the very first two handed rods Sage offered for this application. And this particular model is the best in the series, with the possible exception of the 10151, which is an entirely different animal. This rod is a 14' 0" length 9 weight.I find the rod performs best with a 625 to 650 Skagit head for me, I can cast much lighter head, but it is work.the heavier lines slow the action down and expand the timing window for execution. The rod is a 4 piece rod. This particular model proved to not only be the most desirable action casting wise, but it was also very durable, for some reasonthe Sage rods at the time, having the fatter butt section diameter, did break in the handle under extreme casting pressure, man did they explode when you compressed them ... morea hair to much.bitchin rods one and all, but this one was the best.and still is, except maybe for its weight, since they are strong they are heavier than many offered today.but the feel, balance, character of the rod is just as unique now as it ever was.If you have questions or want more information let me know, always glad to talk more fishing.By the way, the detail that the rod is the best casting rod in the series has to do with the final realization that the length and weight of the casting line had to be created within a short head length for optimal performance, thus this rod excells casting Skagit heads.the Sage GFL 9140-3 is better for full size lines.but that was before Skagit heads were around, we had to try and make them back then. Note that the rod tube in the photo is for a different Sage rod. Which has long since gone the way of the Buffalo, however, I have this rod tube and no other use for it, so if you want it I will send the rod in this exact tube, which is slightly long, I will also send it protected in a cloth bag, but not the original Sage cloth bag, which I do not have, just so y
