Rare Winston Bamboo Spey Rod. One of 3 by Brackett ever made! NR!
Up for your consideration is an extremely rare Winston bamboo spey rod built by Glenn Brackett when he was still at Winston. It is a 12'6" 7/8. 3 piece, one tip hex in a beautiful Arne Mason case. Glenn made three of these back in the nineties as prototypes however, as he explained, at that time the market would not bear the cost of production. This particular rod was originally slated for fiberglass ferrules, but minds were changed at that time and nickel silver was used. This rod has never been fished, It has been on display in my home only. I did line it and cast it once, a 480gr scandi line worked quite well. Still, due to the rarity and extreme collector value, I couldn't bring myself to actually risk damaging it. All sections are exact length and straight. There is some kind of mar underneath the varnish over the wrappings ... moreon the butt section, you can see it in a pic. It may be a prototype designation mark. This limited edition 1963 short Dancing Scot music box decanter plays lovely rendition of"Comin' Thro' the Rye" and Scottish figure in the glass bubble inside the decanter. Moves up and down and turns around when the on/off button is turned on. Comin' thro' the Rye" was a poem written by Robert Burns in 1782 when he was 23 years old. It was a childrens' song but the music was made famous when Marion Anderson sang it in 1945. After 1963 the Dancing Scot bottles were changed to a taller version and issued between 1964 and 1970. The glass bottles were made in Japan and contained Gilbey's Spey Royal Scotch. 11 inches tall. Empty. The plastic base has 3 cracks- can be seen in photos, but it does not affect the mechanism. Vintage Spey Royal Scotch Decanter Musical Dancing Scott MUST SEE
This is a Vintage Spey Royal Scotch Decanter barware. With a Dancing Scott that dances to the tune of Auld Lang Syn. Everything in great condition, you turn it upside down and wind it up and there is a little knob on the right side that u can actually turn in on and off. The tune is really really sweet, great quality sound. Kinda amazing to me. When he winds down, he dances slowly to the slowing down music, and it just trails off, sending the scotch drinker to dream land, hahaha. The Scott is wearing a Red& Black checkered kilt, and he is carrying a staff of some kind in his right hand. It includes the correct relation of grid letters and sheet numbers. As seen it also includes a number of extra items which were at the time classified. It's hard to let an old friend go. But life goes on. I built this powerful Sage 3 piece Spey rod from a blank I bought in 1970 from Anglers Workshop in Woodland, Washington. Very few fly fishermen were using two-handed rods back then. It's different now, isn't it? I could reach places other guys only stared at, and boy! did I catch fish! I'm a perfectionist when it comes to building things, and this is a good example. The guides are straight and true with several coats of epoxy on the brown and gold windings. SUPER NICE CONDITION J S SHARPE SPLICE JOINT BAMBOO SPEY ROD-first sharpe rod i have ever seen-this rod is made in aberdeen scotland and when assembled measures 11 ft 6"the decals say"the aberdeen" and"scottie impregnated"i think its from the 1950s era but not certain-the rod is split bamboo construction designed for salmon fishing-the unigue feature is the rod sections have splice joints which are scarfed together with twine-this supposedly make a much stronger connection between sections than standard ferrules do-the rod has 3 sections and a spare tip for total 4 peices-it has 13 line guides including the tip guide-the tip sections have red agate guides with 11 imtermediate snake guides wound with maroon/burgundy wrappings-ONE PROBLEM if the 1st red agate guide is missing on the butt section-the guide mount is still ... moreintact so a round guide could easily be resoldered in place-is has a really nice clean 23" cork handle-the metal butt cap is marked#5546 and j.s.sharpe ltd. aberdeen-the rod comes with its complete set of 5 splice protectors used when the rod is disassembled or in storage to protect the joint faces-the rod overall shows hardly any wear and no damage except for the missing round guide-its been very well taken care of and appears used very little-it comes in its original fitted canvas carrying case with cloth tag-the only thing missing is the twine that you wrap the joints with-i dont know if its a special type of twine or not-OVERALL A VERY UNUSUAL STYLE ROD-OBVIOUSLY TOP QUALITY CONSTRUCTION AND IN WELL TAKEN CARE OF ORIGINAL CONDITION!
