This rod was turned into St. Croix for warranty due to the fact that it has been broken and professionally repaired. I was able to find matching butt and tip sections in order to make a new complete rod. The handle section is complete with the St. Croix logo scrapped off. This is how they identify warranty return rods, by scrapping off the label. This does not effect the performance of the rod. There is a pic that shows were the label has been removed. About 8-10 inches from the end of the butt section the blank was cracked and then repaired. I took several pictures of the repaired area. South Bend Steelhead Trout 1190 - American Perfect
Very rare South Bend 1190 fly reel. THe South Bend red reel is much more scarce than the Shakespeare"Steelhead Trout" model which is itself uncommon. These are an American-made alternative to the Hardy Perfect. This is a later version with a captive spool and an additional drag button on the back of the frame. There are a nicks around the edges and the red anodized finish is worn in spots but overall the condition is fairly good. The screw adjusting the check mechanism is slipping. I think you might be able to get away with crimping the bracket so the screw doesn't slip but the best fix would be a new tensioner screw. Even so. The reel is very fishable as-is. Here is a nice example of an antique skin mounted trout. It is fairly large at 26" I am not sure f it is a trout or salmon. I think it my be a steelhead. Anyways it is in ok condition for its age. a few cracks in the fins and the edges of some of scales are just starting to peel a tiny bit. It still has some pretty nice color though. Well-cared for by its previous owner seemingly ... moreseldom fished. The vintage English-made Cortland S/S Magnum Fly Reel being auctioned here is in excellent lightly-used condition. As the pictures show. There is very little cosmetic wear or tear evident about the reel or spool's rimmed edge or face, with no major chips, gouges, dents, dings, rubs or scrapes noticed. The reel foot still appears straight and tight with no signs of damage or abuse witnessed, and a close inspection of the reel's interior confirms all components of the adjustable dual-check click-pawl drag still perfectly intact with no evidence of excessive wear or tear found. A quick test of the reel's drag confirms smooth and increasing tension throughout its entire adjustable range with no stutter, stick, or hesitation experienced, and the spool release-mechanism and handle knob were confirmed in perfect working order as well. Pre-set for a left-hand-retrieve(but easily changeable to right) This vintage English-made Cortland S/S Magnum Fly Reel is best suited for use with 9 or 10 weight single-hand fly rods/fly lines, with the capacity to easily handle 7/8 Spey duty too.
