Up for auction is this Heddon Thorobred#14 9' 2½ F Vintage Split Bamboo Fly Rod. It is an original Heddon Bamboo fly rod. No.14 with the Coral colored Tenite seat. It is the"Thorobred" slow action trout fly rod. This vintage split bamboo fly rod comes with the extra tip(4 bamboo rod parts in all) The rod has the original guides and wraps. The varnish finish is a little"bubbles" in a few places but there are no cracks or breaks. The two tip section have slight bends as can be seen in photos number 1 and 2. The cork at the end has the outer finish rubbed off as can be seen in photo number 3. It also has another word written on the rof that appears to be Washo?d but I can't read it all. VINTAGE CUSTOM SOUTH BEND SPLIT BAMBOO FLY FISHING ROD This auction is for a vintage custom refinished four piece 9’ South bend split bamboo fly fishing rod. There is no South bend label however the Comficient cork handle and lite lock reel seat are characteristic of a South Bend rod. It is likely a Model 57 or 59 based on the taper and action. Three sections measure 37” and the mid section is 35 ½” I would estimate the fly line weight to be a solid six. The aforementioned cork handle and reel seat are in very good functional condition. There are four snake eye guides on the mid section and five on each tip section. There is a stripper guide and hook keeper on the bottom section. All of the snake eye guides are new. The snake eye guide near the male ferrule on the mid section is missing a partial wrap but it is very tight. The rod is a 7' Model SF74-4 3 7/8 oz. rod featuring the Fenwick Feraite"Twist on Twist off" sections. Rod was designed for AFTMA Fly Line No.6 and 3-6# line for the spinning rod using 1/8 to 3/8 oz. lures. Each rod section measures approx. 22 1/2" long. The rod is nice but is missing the black butt cap. The label showing serial# I 17223 is coming off at the edges and a couple of the wire eyes are a little misshaped. There are four parts to the rod. 3 of the parts are in very nice condition with slight usage, beautiful color, the extra tip has been broken. The eyes may have been rewound as they look newer. The cork handle has some chips in it and there is a metal piece that moves towards the bottom end. This has the original cloth bag with the original label which is torn, the bag is a little dirty, has some stitching that has come apart at the end and a small hole. Vintage South Bend Bamboo 9 Foot Three Piece (3/2) Fly Fishing Rod w Tube
For sale at a buy it now fixed price is this classic bamboo fly fishing rod. It is an 9 foot three piece rod with two tips and it comes in the original aluminum tube. This is one of the early tubes with the heavy metal threaded cap. This one has no markings on it but from the style of cupped grip and the style of reel seat I think it is likely a South Bend rod. As usual it has no marking of the appropriate fly line. However. It throws a WF-6-F well in my back yard. This one is used but in excellent condition for one of these with no damage to the bamboo. The pieces are of equal length and assembled it measures 9 feet so I think it has had no broken tips. no repairs. The grip. Eyes and seat are all good and without damage. As for the wraps.well.they are all there but a different color here and a different color there. I think they were all ... moreoriginally yellow but only a few of those remain. New” Vintage 3-Piece Bamboo Fly Rod for sale. Each piece measures 34.5” This rod is made with bamboo blanks from a vintage rod from the 1940’s. The rod is now in great shape. I would say this rod casts best as a 5/6 wt. If you are looking to buy a bamboo rod at a good price without spending hundreds of dollars. This rod would be perfect for you. I replaced the reel seat with a new deluxe Aluminum Reel Seat and I used brand new stainless steel chrome plated snake guides with a line keeper. I kept the original cork grip because it was in great shape plus it looks cool. Not your typical cork grip. Also. I kept the original ferrules and they are in great shape. Very nice post WWII Japanese Bamboo Fly Rod. Made in Tokyo, Japan. This"NFT" rod(as labeled on the handle section with a Mt Fuji decal) is in excellent condition, as is the wooden rod case. Comes with five rod sections; 3 tips, 1 middle, 1 handle section. All in near MINT condition. The handle section still has the protective plastic over the cork. I do not believe this rod set was ever used. Small hairline splits in metal threads at reel butt on handle section as pictured. Splits are barely noticable an does not affect the operation of the reel thread assembly. Also included are 23 vintage flies and the original cloth rod bag. Overall a great vintage setup here. The reel seat. Winding check and ferrules are characteristics of the early pocket rods manufactured by Montague. I would estimate it could be aligned with a one-two weight fly line. The 5 ¾” cork handle and reel seat are in great condition. I have included eight snake eye guides and a stripper guide(not original to the rod) The rod fits together perfectly when assembled and has the distinct pop sound when removed. There is a vibration due to the two(red) ferrules that have been replaced. It will however not affect the casting of the rod. The storage clothe does have tears. Here is a great looking and feeling split bamboo fly rod. There is a very legible label“SAOTSUNI” at the base of the pole. The pole measure 8 feet long and weighs around 6 ounces. There are five pieces to the pole. When put together with the fittings one makes a much shorter and stiffer pole than the 8’ fly rod. The other two extra pieces are end tips. On of them is missing its base metal piece. I believe the photos will demonstrate the condition of this pole. Please feel free to ask questions before bidding. Thank you. Very nice vintage South Bend four piece bamboo fly fishing rod with metal tube and cloth sock for the fly fishing purist or collector. Very clean rod. Well taken care of by original owner. Sock is correct and in great shape. Nice label and stampings on the rod. Cork is good, a bit dark, but not missing any chunks etc. One tip may have been re-wrapped, but it is the correct length and not broken. Reel seat clean. Mechanism that screws the reel into place working. 8 1/2 ft rod. See the rod stampings for the rest of the details. Guides original. Sorry but the flash is going in my camera. Very nice old rod. Up for bids is this vintage 9' Fly Rod with sock. This is 3-piece and each piece is 36" The rod is metal. The ends have brass inserts where the ends go together and there is brass that holds the eyelets on. The handle is wood and it says on the metal part that reel fits into it says VIM with an arrow on each side of it the ring that holds other end of reel says Made in U.S.A. The rod has some paint chipping and it looks like maybe it was green and then painted black. There is an interesting story with this item I bought this from a friend of mine that used to go fishing with MORT NEFF who used to have an outdoors show here in Michigan. The serial number is B 19652 indicating a 1961-62 era rod. The rod remains in EXCELLENT SHAPE in the original Fenwick cardboard rod tube. I have no history on the rod-this was an estate sale find from the attic of an OLD HOUSE and nobody knew anything about this fishing rod. The rod is marked FENWICK Feralite B 19652 FF80 3 1/2 oz The condition is fantastic- the cork handle looks almost unused-it appears to have been handled some-I took a couple close up photos for you to see. All the line guides appear to be in fantastic condition as are the line guide wraps. This reel is in excellent cosmetic and mechanical condition with a couple of very light scratches visible on close inspection. This listing is for: an antique fishing rod by South Bend. Model#359. 9 inch long bamboo rod with the original carrying case. This is a#59- 9 which is 9 feet in length. I am not an expert so I'm unable to tell w hat needs re pairs or to comment on the condition. I was told that the tip is missing from it so please use the photos to get the best information about this piece. All of the guides appear to be in tact and appear to me to be original. I am not expert enough to tell if the rod has been restored. But I don't think so. The cork grip is dirty and I did not try to clean it. Normal 0 Vintage Early 1950s White Bear Fly Rod Box. Rods, Flies, Very Complete Items are in good used shape. I was told by the older gentleman that I got this from that it had never been used and that may be true. The only thing I can say is that the sliding plastic that goes over the flies and hooks etc has a break in the middle and is wavy from time. The box is good except for some light splintering on the bottom of one end. The hooks and flies look complete(the end where the swivels are looks a little light to me) There are 5 rod pieces. Vintage Heddon Pal Pro Weight # 8381 7' fiberglass fly rod
Up for auction is a highly desirable 7' Heddon Pal Pro Weight model#8381 with rod sock(I do not know if this is original) The Heddon 8381 is one of the excellent vintage rods that have inspired the recent fiberglass renaissance among many knowledgeable flyfishers and rod builders. Graphite rods can't do what fiberglass can in this length and line weight: throw larger. Heavier flies while still flexing enough to cast well and protect light tippets. This is a great rod for big fish in small streams. Rod is listed as a 5 weight but will easily throw a 6 weight at close range. I hate to part with it, but I have to thin my own collection a bit! This rod has been well cared for and is in great condition for its age. All ferrules and guide wraps are original and tight. The finish. Cork and reel seat are clean. All wear is from normal use ... moreand age: a bit of scuffing on the reel seat and some staining and a small hole in the rod sock. You are bidding on a vintage Golden Compac three piece bamboo fly rod with extra tip section. The rod is in near mint condition. The only blemish I could find was the scratch on the reel seat as seen in the last picture. This may have been a manufacturing defect as the rod shows no signs of use. The rod has seven guides + the tip. The rod would probably be about a 6 wt by today's standards. I will always combine shipping on multiple purchases. Please check out my other fishing related items.
