The lid opens on a hinge. On the lip is the lion with it's paw on a"w" The mark for the company, sterling, and also 17Y. Engraved on the front of the case is"Elsie R. Fenimore, May 20, 1885" The case measures 3.5 x 2.5 x.25 inches. There is a slight dent in one of the corners that is visible in the pictures. It should be easy to straighten out if one so desires. Please take a close look at this set of five Gorham Whiting Sterling Silver Tablespoons. The bowls of these spoons are large enough to use them as serving spoons. This is a beautiful Louis XV pattern. On the back they have the hallmark and say Sterling Pat. 1891. These five tablespoons are in great condition to be over 100 years old and I have polished them. They have small scratches in the finish. Probably from years of being polished, but do not have any black spots. The picture makes the handles look curved, but they are not. The handles are straight with well detailed designs. These are all monogrammed with GB(I am certain of the B, but not as certain of the G. The price is for ONE spoon but there are four available. This is a very attractive set of 4 sterling silver small cocktail coasters or individual mint dishes. They measure 3 1/2" across and are marked on bottom just below outer rim with trademark M in circle for Frank M Whiting Co and I believe these date from 1930's but could be a little earlier. They are solid silver and have combined weight of over 93 grams. I have not cleaned or polished these. The condition is very good with typical dark spots which all should come out with various degrees of polishing. There are a few minor scratches and one has a few minor dents from beneath. Whiting Lily of the Valley Sterling Silver Berry Spoon. It is in good condition with normal surface scratches and there is no mono or mono removal.
