This is a VERY NICE Vintage PFLUEGER MEDALIST 1495 1/2 DA FLY Fishing Reel MADE IN USA. The reel is in excellent mechanical condition and looks hardly used. I.e. it has a great appearance with only a little(very little) light spec on the very edges of the side rims. It is equipped with a nice looking fly line as shown, but I am not a fly fisherman so I would not know the size or type of line. Pictures show well. I was given this fly reel by a friend about 30 years ago and have never used it since. It was used some by my friend and in a good working condition. Please check out the photos. It still has the fly line and leader on it. I'm also throwing in a spare spool for a different reel. It should fit a 1495 or 1595 Plueger Medalist fly fishing reel. 2 Pflueger Medalists: 1495 1/2 and 1495 1/2 DA with backing & lines lot #51
These two reels are exactly the same; the significance of the DA on one is that it was made in a different year. Both reels show the signs of use one expects to see on reels of this vintage. But both are in excellent mechanical condition-and, I might add(editorially) that the Pflueger 1495 1/2 is beyond question the best and strongest steelhead and light salmon fly reel produced by anyone, anywhere, during the 20th century. I have no idea what size the lines on these reels are, but would guess either 8 or 9 weight. The 1495 1/2 DA has a previous owner's named scratched into the frame-so my minimum bid is, in essence, a bid for a reel with a spare spool, and you can use the frame with a name scratched on it for spare parts. You are bidding on a super nice example of a vintage Pflueger Medalist fly reel#1495 1/2 model DA that measures 3 3/4" in diameter by 1 1/4" in width. It is marked in the center: Pflueger Medalist. Made in USA, and on the front rim: Pflueger 1495 1/2 DA, Made in USA. It is also marked on the bottom of the foot: Made in USA. This reel is in excellent mechanical condition. Cranks very smoothly with a good strong click action. C osmetically. I would rate the reel a 9+. This is a no reserve auction. Buyer pays $8.00 shipping anywhere in the US.

Vintage Pflueger Medalist 1495 DA - FOR PARTS - mid 1960s to mid 1970s.
As I said in the condition description above. THIS REEL DOES NOT WORK AND CANNOT BE MADE TO WORK. It is being sold as is. The spring and pin assembly in the spool that engages the front of the drag plate is missing. So you can't even get a working spare spool out of this. The spring-loaded pawl in the reel body that engages the back of the drag plate is corroded in place. Maybe you could get it out. But I can’t. This reel apparently spent a lot of time in salt water. THE DRAG PLATE IS FROM AN EARLIER 1495 AND IS NOT REVERSIBLE- IT IS FOR A RIGHT HAND RETRIEVE ONLY. On a working reel. It will work just fine. I know this because I bought this reel for the reversible drag plate which is now installed on the aforementioned working 1495 reel. I'm now just trying to get rid of what's left. Here’s what works: The cover plate(the white ... moreplastic bit that says Medalist on it) Spring, and cam that hold the reel to the shaft work fine. You can see the back of it in the last picture. The non-reversible right hand retrieve drag plate/ratchet works as I mentioned earlier. The braking mechanism works fine. But since it’s pinned in place, how you’d get it out let alone re-install it on another reel I have no idea. The spring can be removed and it works fine, along with the screw and the sided shim that holds the spring in place- that’s about it All the screws appear to be original and I have checked each one by rotating it a half turn so none of them are rusted in place. The line guard is intact. Though one of the shafts is a bit rusty. And of course. If all you want is a non-working display model for your collection, this rode-hard-and-put-up-wet old veteran has a lot of character and should do the job nicely.
