South Bend 59-9, 9 ft. Bamboo Fly Fishing Rod 1122 SB Reel With 2 Rod Tips MINT
Up for auction is the great South Bend model 59-9 bamboo fly rod with the base. Center and two top sections/tips. The rods are all in very good condition with no problems to the guides, tips or wraps. It appears that it has not been used or barely used and put away years ago. The cork section looks almost new, and appears to have no missing chunks. It still has the original foil label and looks good. Everything appears to be original with no repairs. I have attempted to describe this rod set to the best of my abilities and knowledge, but please look at the pictures to make your own judgement of condition. The South Bend 1122 looks to be in functional condition and still turns in both directions. We believe both of these items to be South Bend reels but we could be mistaken. VINTAGE SOUTH BEND PENN NO. 77 FISHING REELS FINALIST 1122 FLY CASTING ANGLERS
I found these two reels at a barn sale in Lebanon. NJ. The were with some other fishing tackle that looked like hadn't been used in years. There are in good working condition and really have the vintage look going for them. Both have a small bit of tape adhesive on them and some very mild rust. Check out the photos well and see for yourself for their visual appeal. The South Bend Finalist maroon color has flaked off in some areas. The reel is all metal except for the plastic handle and center logo seal. The Penn reel is mostly made of plastic with some metal parts as indicated by the photos. Ex. South Bend #1122 light single action fly reel with line and zipper case
As you can see. There are only a couple or little pinpointers on the rim that keeps this from being mint. It is one of the later Gladding Group South Bend reels. It has modern fly line(which could probably use some backing) and the click works fine. The zipper case is marked Sunbeam, and obviously doesn't belong with the reel originally. This homage to the Pflueger Medalist was called the Finalist. Not marked on this reel, shows only No.1122. This was made by Gladding after the acquisitiion of South Bend. The reel is in very good condition, light scrapes on the rims. Width of reel 3 1/4" spool 3/4" There is a weak on/off click button on the tail plate. The spool has a quick release lever. A good reel, still useable on a daily basis.

This one is ready to go right now. The leader looks to be 2 pound test. All you need is the rod and a fly. Modern lines can cost $30-40 these days. The reel has minute wear on the rims which you may not be able to see even on the close-ups. For some reason it was spooled up and rarely used. Vintage South Bend 1122 Finalist Fly Reel with Box and Manual - Reel is Perfect
Vintage 1960's South Bend 1122 Finalist Fly Reel. Like new, never used, with box and repair manual. The mint condition of the reel can be seen in the pictures. The box shows some wear as one would expect after 50 to 60 years on the shelf. The reel is very clean, no dust, dirt, or scratches you see on most reels that have been fished or had line on them before. This reel has the script"Finalist" label as well as"1122" on the spool button, which looks much better than the later models that just had"South Bend 1122" in big letters on the button. This would be a great addition to anyone's collection. Or a great reel for a 3-6wt vintage fiberglass rod that you take out and get on the water with. I ship USPS Priority Mail. For auction is a South Bend Finalist Fly Reel# 1122 in box with original literature. The literature has repair station. The one year warranty and information on rods and reels. The box is nice and tight with good corners. Shows some wear but all in all quite nice for the age. The reel itself is.beautiful. It is used and has been cleaned since I took the photos so it is better than what you see. The logo tag has come off but it is in the box and for the photo, I did place it in its spot

Vintage South Bend Model 1122 Fly Reel - 2 of 2
Like the other 1122 I'm offering. This one looks nice, but unfortunately the spring& pawl drag(clicker’ does not work properly. I have put a bit of epoxy behind the drag button which causes the pawl to remain permanently engaged in the gears- it won’t come unengaged. I did this because the drag button does not remain engaged by itself, causing it to spin freely without clicking, i.e. no drag. Apparently this is a common problem for this particular make and model of reel. Anyway, this is being sold as-is. If you have a similar model that works well, this will provide a nice spare spool or if you have a kid you want to start fly-fishing, this would make a good cheap starter reel. Note- I'm selling another reel almost identical to this one except it has the bit of metal behind the drag button rather than the epoxy I put in this one. ... moreBoth modifications have the same effect of keeping the drag permanently engaged. I suspect this was done deliberately by a previous owner because the drag buttons on these reels have a tendency to quickly wear to the point that they remain difficult to engage at all, causing them to spin freely without clicking, i.e. no drag.
