Up for bid is one Vintage C. F. ORVIS Single Action Fly Reel. Patented May 12th, 1874, with wood box. This reel is missing the crank handle and handle nut. It has a full time clicker. On the back there is an engraved brass plate with"C. F. ORVIS, MAKER, MANCHESTER, VT. PATENTED MAY 12th, 1874" From the Internet: In 1874 Orvis received a patent on a new design in fly reels. Patent Number 150.883 is now regarded as a milestone in American fishing tackle history. The 1874 reel was in some ways a major break with previous reel design. Its spool was narrow, quite unlike most fly reels then in use. The perforations on the side plates, which lightened the reel considerably, permitted air circulation through the line when it was on the spool. As the patent claimed, A current of air is continually forcing itself through the wound-up line, ... moreand all mildew and rot thereby avoided, as under these circumstances the line soon becomes thoroughly dried. Actually. Neither the narrow spool nor the line ventilation were new What was new was mounting the narrow spool upright in the traditional reel position, as modern fly reels are mounted. Offered here for sale is a very nice Vintage Orvis Battenkill V. Click and Pawl Fly Reel, with an unmarked zippered leather case. This reel is in excellent working condition, and measures approximately 3-7/8" in diameter. The only cosmetic issue is with the inside of the spool, where there is some pitting and corrosion from wet line and backing sitting there(please see photos) Other than this, the reel is excellent, and as stated above, works great. Vintage C. F. Orvis 1874 Patent Fly Reel
Orvis 1874 Patent third version fly reel. As noted by the presence of the screw construction rather than riveted and the presence of a screw on oil cap. This reel appears to be all original except for the oil cap. As shown in the photos, the oil cap looks original but it is a replacement part. The reel is straight(not bent) turns freely and the"clicker" mechanism is strong for a reel of this age. The foot of this Orvis reel has been modified very slightly on both ends as shown in the photos. The reel shows wear from usage but it has retained almost all of its original nickel plating.

Vintage HARDYS ORVIS CFO IV FLY REEL
Here a vintage HARDY made ORVIS CFO lV FLY REEL this is one of the best reels I have ever fished. This reel is almost perfect I have really taken care of my stuff. HARDY went and built another piece of work from the heavy alloy frame.Brass reel foot, and line guards and went and painted it a gorgeous winter green which shows off all its brass components. This little power house has a perfect clicker drag that is a wonder to fish similer to the princes except for the tensioner but I actually like it a little better CFO. As I said its pretty much perfect except some very faint rubes around the rims. It also has a case and is 3 inches and can fish left or right handed as well there is not a lot of these around of this caliber as well and made in England by hardy for Orvis. thanks. Posted with

Though both the reel and the extra spool are classified as"used. there is very little evidence of very much use. A few nicks on the reel but very, very few. I doubt whether the extra spool has ever been used.

vintage Orvis Madison III fly reel NEAR MINT CONDITION ready to use immediately
Offered for sale is a vintage Orvis Madison III fly reel. The reel has seen very little use and remains in NEAR MINT CONDITION. The reel is ready to use immediately and fully spooled with a Cortland 444 double taper floating line and backing. The reel can be either right or left hand retrieve- currently right handed. The reel is complete with the Orvis reel sock(a little dirty) and Cortland fly line cleaner. And the paperwork found inside the reel sock Pictures show exactly what you will get. The reel was with the outstanding Fisher graphite 9' fly rod I also have up for sale this week- the fly rod is a 6/7 weight graphite rod that was only used a couple of times at the most. Fisher rods were made in California and were wonderful rods that are very similar in quality to the R L WINSTON rods. Some Hardy graphite rods, and some Orvis graphite ... morerods. It is my understanding that Fisher Rods made rod blanks for all the company's mentioned and others.

Vintage Original Orvis CFO II Fly Reel Frame (and optional spool)
Rare opportunity to add to your collection or replace your broken frame! Here's the true story: through a previous ebay purchase. The seller included this CFO III frame(without spool or reel seat post) I replaced the reel seat with a newer one from Orvis(its all they could offer) and put a Hardy Bros Marquis 2/3 sppol on it. The reel works fine. As you can see in the pictures(2) the new reel post is new, and in(5& 6) there is a slight gap between the frame and spool. I have not had any problem with line getting caught up in there. The reel is just like my Hardy Marquis 2/3, so I don't need this one. Now, that being said, Orvis has not made this reel for many, many years and now is offering a replica at an expensive price! If you already have the original classic CFO III, then here's your frame. If you want the spool with it, ... morelet me know, as I am listing this with both frame& spool. It was brought to my attention that this might be a CFO II, but I have seen(and in the pics) three silver Roman numeral I's after the CFO name. I trust this is described as best as possible. Vintage Orvis Forest Green Presentation fly reel case. Excellent Early Orvis Forest green Presentation Fly reel case for fly reels up to 4.0” diameter. Case is for any Orvis reel. But was intended for the EXR presentation reel. Can be used for DXR, Battenkill, Bar stock, Mid arbor or large arbor reels. Measures about 4.5 across on outside. Excellent condition. This is a vintage early model orvis battenkill fly fishing reel in excellent condition. Reel was manufactured in England and comes with original padded reel case. Reel shows a little paint loss on edges of reel and there is a little scratch on grayish metal side of reel. See pictures. Reel is in perfect working condition and clicker is still very strong. Vintage CF Orvis Fly Reel Limited Edition VERY RARE - Presentation Wooden Box
C. F. Orvis- Manchester. VT Charles Orvis patented his fly reel on May 12. 1874. The first model had the head-plate and tail-plate riveted to the pillars. It also had the Orvis name and patent date engraved on the bottom of the foot. The first models came with a nice form fitting, hinged walnut wood box. He continually improved upon the reel and later models were screwed together. Reels made after the early 1900's had their end plates fastened to the pillars with screws. The reels are usually found made of nickel plated brass. The reel was also made of solid nickel silver(German silver) These models and are considered scarce. The Charles F. This auction is for a Brand New Vintage J. Peterman Leather Fleece Lined Fly Reel Case. The case as you can see it is in a semi round"D" shape and exterior dispensations measure 5 inches long x 4 1/2 inches wide x 3 inches high. The interior dimensions measure 4 1/2 long x 4 to 3/18 wide x 2 5/8 high allowing for the fleece lining cushion. This handsome waxed leather waterproof fly reel case is beautifully stitched and lined with wool shearling. Case will accommodate and size reel from the smallest to larger than a CFO IV and slightly more. Again. There is a generous amount of cushioned fleece. The top of the case is embossed with the company name. Everything is of the highest quality available as one would expect of a product bearing the J.
