Description: Super great find of two Pflueger Medalist Trout Fishing Fly Reels. Models are 1494 and 1495. I am not a fly fisherman but have done a great amount of fishing in my past. Lakes, deep sea, pond hopping for big mouth bass, pier fishing as well as surf and river. I know a good reel when I see and feel it. The 1494 has been used more than the 1495, check pics and you can tell just by the paint wear. Both spin smooth with a clear consistent clicking sound. There appears to be nothing missing or any cracks or damage. Just normal use. Whoever owned these was a fly fisherman and put some good use to them. Very solid codition for the vintage that they are. Nice Vintage Pflueger Medalist 1495 Fly Reel with box and reel papers. On reel frame it states. Diamolite Line Guard" Patented" and"No.1495" Reel has some very minimal scuffing along frame edge but largely in great shape. Interior of spool has a fair amount of paint loss. Box is in decent shape for age but contains some blemishes and light staining here and there.

The rod has 1” pillars. A 3 5/8” plate and weighs 6 ¾ oz. Cosmetically the reel and the spools are in very Good + to Excellent– condition with some minor rash but no chips. Dents or pitting. Mechanically the reel is in excellent condition. The reel is spooled with ST-7-S wet cell line. One spool has WF-9-1 DT& F line and the other has WF-6-F line. Up for auction is a Pflueger Medalist 1495 AK Fly Reel with box and instruction/parts manual. Technically. This is used, but it is in like-new condition. Please see pictures. It is in excellent condition! It has fly line on it but it looks like it was prepared for fishing but may not have ever been used. It works perfect and winds smooth. It comes with the box(with an original price tag on it saying $34.95) and instruction/parts manual. The box has some dents and marks on it as well as some tape over some tears. Pflueger Medalist 1495 Left Hand Circa 1957 W New Drag Plate
In my opinion the best Pflueger Medalists for use come from the mid 1950's era. Here's why: Rectangular line guard much more practical in use than the round line guard and allows conversion from right to left hand use. Bronze Ratchet bearing. Closer tolerance fit than the brass bearings that came later. Bronze spindle spool bushing versus aluminum on the earlier spools and brass on the later. Six rivet versus three rivet spool construction. Low button on spool spool release cam versus high button. Opening bid may seem high for this reel but if you add up the $30 I paid for the drag plate and the $32 that I paid for the reel the opening bid is a bargain for a reel you could use with pride for a lifetime. Installed a drag ratchet plate made from A2 hardened steel supplied by the classic fly fisherman so it is setup for left hand wind. ... moreFar superior to the later plastic plates. This size Medalist is very versatile. I use a 1595 from this era for my light Steelhead fishing and for fishing the Delaware. There is line on the spool. 7wt double taper floating line which would be correct for this reel. You could go up a weight or probably drop to a 6 wt if you wanted to. It has an adjustable drag that onl y works when line is being paid out. When you retrieve you don't feel the drag. Feel free to ask questions. 1959 Pflueger Medalist 1495 Fly Reel Diamolite Line Guard ca.1930's Extra Spool
For consideration. A vintage(1959) used Pflueger 1495 Medalist R.H. retrieve fly reel with rectangular Diamolite Line Guard, adjustable drag, dual click, and"Made in Akron O USA" stamped on reel body. Mechanically sound but with tackle box rash in original paint including scrapes, rubs, dings. and"wear" spots, especially on body edges. I've used Medalist reels for 55-years and this one still has a lot of life left in it. Included is a spare spool, most likely from the late 1930's, with an amber colored plastic handle and an aluminum spool latch cover. Both spools have old fly lines on them that in my opinion are in poor condition and probably not usable except for display purposes. Being offered"as is. Thanks for looking.

This classic reel is in very good condition. Some light scrapes on the gunmetal finish. The bottom of the frame reads"DIAMOLITE/LINE GUARD No.1495 MADE IN/AKRON,O. U.S.A. The spool release cover is white plastic and the handle is mottled ivory Pyralin. Diameter of the spool is 3 5/8" width of spool 3/4" This is a right hand wind reel with a plastic drag knob on the rim of the tail plate. up for sale is a vintage pflueger fly reel in excellent working condition including the drag.it has rub marks on it and shows some use. along with the reel comes:1 dt6fs.1dt 6f, 1wf8s,1 wf7st.on the reel is a dt8 f. you can cover about every situation with this group. the lines are all in good useable condition.this reel and spools were used for catching landlock salmon primarily.ask questions and enjoy bidding. i have a 3 day inspection period, so if any questions arise please let me know. regards tinker also embossed is:made in akron usa.

2 Vintage Pflueger Fly Fishing Reels: Medalist No.1495 & Progress No.1774
This auction is for a lot of 2 Vintage Pflueger fly fishing reels: a Medalist No.1495 and a Progress No.1774. Both reels are fully functional and in good condition. The Medalist is 4" in diameter. Has an aluminum alloy spool and frame, push button quick release spool, external drag system, and convertible left/right retrieve. It has some normal wear for something almost 75 years old; scuffing, scratches, and some pitting, but works well. The Progress is 3" in diameter, has an aluminum spool, and a gunmetal finish over a brass frame. The gunmetal finish is in great shape with very little sign of wear, and the reel works great. These reels are both highly collectible. I generally ship the day after payment is received. Thanks for viewing.

The plastic spool latch cover is distorted and the handle is shorter that the metal shaft. The latch lock lever can be pushed inward. But I was unable to get spool to release.
