This early automatic reel is in fair condition cosmetically. Very good condition mechanically with a strong spring and good retrieve. The underside is stamped"PAT.APPL'D/FOR" The black finish is significantly worn. This reel is loaded with an old enamelled fly line which needs replacement if you intend to fish the reel.

Up for bid is one Vintage Automatic" MARTIN AUT' FISH REEL CO. No. 4 Fly Reel. The bottom of the foot is marked" MARTIN AUT' FISH REEL CO. MOHAWK, N. Y. and on the bottom cover it has"U. S. PAT. OCT.9, 1923" and on the back rim"No. 4" The reel is constructed of aluminum. It is missing a knurled knob that when pulled out activates the retrieve function. The function works by pulling the shaft the knob would be on. It is in good working condition as far as I can tell without having line on it. It measures 3-3/8" diameter. 2-1/16" high including the foot, and has a foot measuring 2-1/2" long by 9/16" wide. It weighs 8.1 ounces, with packaging it will ship at 13 ounces. Inc.77 WS fly reel with skirted spool- Mohawk, NY USA Martin 77 WS fly reel with skirted spool This black Martin 77WS fly reel was manufactured in Mohawk New York was probably made in the 1970’s. Cosmetically. The reel has some paint wear and scratching as well as some left-over tape adhesive, but will clean up nicely. Mechanically, the reel turns clicks and engages smoothly. The overall performance is almost flawless- just a very small detectible spool wobbles. Also find in the photos florescent yellow backing. Reel can be used right or left handed with a switch of pawl direction. Measures 3 ½” x 1 ¾” x 1 1/8 inside diameter. My estimated capacity 200 yards 20 pound backing WF8 line. It can easily carry full WF6, WF7, or WF8. The reel weighs 6.6 ounces perfect for vintage glass rods.

Vintage Martin REEL Co. Inc. TUNA Can 62 fly reel- Mohawk, NY USA Martin 62 Tuna can fly reel This black Martin 62 fly reel was manufactured in Mohawk New York was probably made in the 1970’s. Cosmetically. The reel has some paint wear and scratching. Mechanically, the reel turns clicks and engages smoothly. The overall performance is almost flawless- just a very small detectible spool wobbles. Also find in the photos florescent yellow backing. Since the reel has a caliper clicker system, this reel can be used right or left handed- just reel line up in direction desired. Measures inside diameter. My estimated capacity 150 yards 20 pound backing WF5 line. It can easily carry full WF6, WF7, or WF8. The reel weighs 3.0 ounces perfect for vintage glass rods.

There are several patent dates listed on the reel and the last one is dated Oct 27. 1903 so I believe this is from the early 1900's. I am not sure if the reel works or how to test it so it is being sold as untested and as-is. This is a great addition to any vintage fly fishing collector. Vintage Martin REEL Co. Inc. Tuna Can" MG-3 fly reel- Mohawk, NY USA Martin MG-3“Tuna Can” fly reel For your consideration is a very light MartinMG-3 fly reel. Made in Mohawk New York. USA probably circa 1970-1980’s this adjustable tension click pawl fly reel can be loaded with WF5 down to DT1 for ultralight use. This grey specimen has some obvious paint loss as seen in photos as well some minor rusting; however cosmetically I would call this one a 7/9. Although currently set up for left hand retrieve, it can be switched to right hand with a change of the pawl direction. Mechanically the reel performs nearly flawlessly as the clicker feels and sound strong with little or no wobble- I would rate this as 8/9. These reels are very light stamped metal. This reel measures 3” x 1 ¼” and weighs 2.7 ounces empty.

I've seen these sell for upwards of $300 at auction in working condition. If this doesn't sell here I will be fixing and taking it to auction myself.
