Vintage Ocean City#35 Clicker FLY Reel- Philadelphia PA USA for Glass or Boo Made in Philadelphia PA This black fly reel was made in the days when there were only bamboo or fiberglass rods. The reel has a tension spring drag which keeps the reel from free spooling. The clicker engages and sounds strong. The line guides is set up for right hand use. The finish is what you would expect of a reel of its age- the line guide has some wear and grooving from years of use. In the effort to enhance the reel. The previous owner re-painted t he reel and over part of the crank handle. The# 35 reel measures 3" x 1 1/8" And at 5.1 ounces it should balance out any lighter weight vintage fly rod, or it could be paired with a modern graphite for an"old school" feel.

Vintage and Refurbished OCEAN CITY #35 Single Action Cast Aluminum 3" Fly Reel
A highly valued and well-made vintage reel What you are bidding on is an extremely well made and totally refurbished vintage fly reel from Philadelphia's Ocean City Manufacturing Company. This good looking 3 inch diameter all metal fly reel is a good match and weight for 1940/1960 bamboo or cane fly rods. This design was originally named the"Wanita" model and is reminiscent of Hardy designed reels at the turn of the century. After WW2. Tackle manufacturers were permitted to resume production or everyday items and this model was slightly modified and renamed"35" It became immediately recognized for its quality and practical construction. That reputation has carried forward to today. The reel is of cast aluminum. The foot(which fits modern reel seats) and large oval line guide are of nickle silver. The crank is made ... morefrom Ivorine. Ivorine is an unusual type of early plastic made from formaldehyde and casein protein extracted from skim milk. It was invented in 1899 as a replacement for rubber used in pens and ivory made for piano keys and a confirming factor in establishing the reels age. It is a right hand wind and takes a 4 to 6 line and goes with any vintage bamboo or cane rod. The reel was disassembled. Sixty-plus years of dirt. Grease and paint was removed. Multiple coats of primer and enamel were applied between wet sandings. Moving parts were checked for wear, reassembled, and appropriately oiled and lubricated. The click/pawl is solid sounding. The reel retrieves smoothly. We feel it is ready for at least another 60 years of use should you decide to try it out"old-school" Equally important this model is a must have addition to any vintage fly reel collection. Up for auction is a" Vintage" Ocean City No. 35 Fly Reel With Box In Very Good Plus Condition with only some very light edge wear! Reel has makers marks on the back which reads. Ocean City No. 35, Made in Philadelphia, U.S.A. see picture# 3, reel functions perfect and turns smooth with a strong on and off click controled by the button on the back, foot is unaltered and marked, Made in U.S.A. see picture#12. Reel diameter is 3 inches and the inside spool width is 5/8 inches. Single white handle has no chips or cracks. Reel comes with Very Good Plus Condition Correct Box, reel was originally sold thru Montgomery Wards, see picture# 11. I will ship the next day after recieving payment. Rare 1948 Vintage" OCEAN CITY "Wanita 35" Single Action Cast Alum. 3" Fly Reel
Vintage c1948? custom painted& refurbished OCEAN CITY"Wanita#35" Single Action 3" Fly reel What you are bidding on is a rare 1948 model 35 from Philadelphia's Ocean City Mfg. Co. and was originally called the"Wanita" model. It is is one of 6 designs to be named a Wanita. Ocean City changed the design a bit and in 1948, they named the Wanita the"No. 35 and No. 36" These were the"Deluxe" version with the round line guide. The spool is solid with no more holes to assist in line drying, and the permanent click/pawl was replaced with a new permanent silent drag. The crank is made from Ivorine. Ivorine is an unusual type of plastic made from formaldehyde and casein protein extracted from milk. It has very nicely cast aluminum reel plates and pillars with a brass center pin. The spool is precision ... morestamped aluminum. The reel features a round chrome plated metal line guide(some wear on the guide- see photos) and a"silent drag" mechanism. Instead of a click/pawl the center pin has a large spring which permits the spool to move in or out when thumb pressure is applied. It doesn't make the familiar clicking sound but does the job just the same. Sorry, right hand wind only. This reel was sandblasted and chemically stripped to bare metal to remove old and highly worn paint. Please reference the before picture. It was then primed and enamel coated to its original flat black appearance. A special paint was hand applied to provide a'one of a kind' hammered metal emerald colored surface to the cranking plate of the spool. Hopefully this"Wanita" deserves a special place in your vintage fly fishing reel collection. The reel was thoroughly inspected to confirm components operate as intended. All surfaces. Except the foot plate, were primed and repainted. The reel has been lubricated and is ready for its new home. Please review the many photos of this reel. This is a nice reel, functions properly and has is full of braided cloth line, reel does show wear and the handle looks to have been melted possibly but is still attached and function as intended.
