I purchased this antique brass fly reel recently and it was mounted to an early 1900's Split Bamboo fly rod. The reel is made of brass and I could not find any markings at all on it. It is in good condition and it is working well. The reel measures 2 5/8" across and is right at 1" wide. I am not exactly sure what the handle is made of but it looks like bone almost to me. Vintage Pflueger Progress No 1774 brass fly reel wood handle nice clean
For auction is a very nice mid 1900's Pflueger Progress No. 1774 solid brass frame with aluminum spool fly reel. This model has the slide option between click and free spin and functions properly. This reel is very clean and an absolute joy to use. The brass is very shiny. It is difficult to capture in photographs, and the aluminum is in nice shape with a shine. The sound of the clicking while fighting a trout is a special sound. While these pair perfectly with bamboo rods, I have enjoyed using it with 4/5 weight modern rods, It may be appropriate for up to 6 weight. This reel has a total weight of 136 grams or 4.75 oz. Antique Vintage English 4" Brass salmon fly reel
You are bidding on an antique/vintage English Brass Salmon reel. 4" in diameter, stamped inside with the engraving"S&W" with six brass pillars, the full brass foot mounted o.nto two of those brass pillars, most probably circa WWI, as when the war broke out, all of the brass was committed to the military to make shell casings. The spool is mounted on an axil with a finely machined brass screw. The reel is set for Right Hand Wind or Left Hand Wind. The reel is in very fine condition and has a loud click drag which would clearly announce the arrival of a fine salmon. This looks like the DIAMOND FLY REEL that was made in Japan. Most of the ones I have seen had a black finish. This is plated brass. There are no markings or numbers on the reel. Has the wood handle which is sloppy and spool has looseness. Click button is very light and probably due the the looseness of the spool. Has all its plating. Has found and needs a very light cleaning of old dust and dirt. A nice collectible reel.

I have purposely magnified these to make them look worse than they are. The foot is 1/8" short on one side. The reel looks great, the screw-heads are in nice shape, it has a nice bone/horn knob, it runs very well and the click purrs. A great looking reel in perfect working order. Rare vintage English brass & ebonite 2 5/8" Trout fly fishing reel circa 1900
This auction is for a rare English brass and ebonite Trout fly reel circa 1900. Size is 2 5/8" across. It's a silver rim design with an inset brass front plate. 3 brass pillars and a brass drum.The back plate is silver rim with an ebonite back plate held in place by 5 brass screws. Unlike most reels of this design and age the ebonite back plate is not cracked or chipped and has it's original brass centre hub. This reel is in superb uncleaned and original condition and is in full working order which for a reel of over 110 years old is amazing. Reel is a non ratchet design that works well in both directions. The reel foot is straight and has not been shortened. It has a shaped dark horn handle with no splits or chips held in place by a brass pin. The only damage is a very tiny chip on the front rim(see fist photo near handle) but ... morethis in no way detracts from it's overall appeal and is not very noticeable. Up for bid is one vintage'STERLING' Nickel Plated Brass Trout/Fly Reel with Clicker. Drag Control, 2:1 Geared Multiplier, and 60 yard line capacity. On the top of the reel foot it is inscribed on one side with"STERLING" and on the other side with the British pound sign and the words"TRADE MARK" The British pound sign and the words"Trade Mark" identify it as a Sterling trade reel, the name used by the H. A. Whittemore Co. of Boston. This reel and tackle retailer operated from 1901 to the mid-1970s and sold reels made by Montague, Pflueger and others. From the foot design this reel is identified as being manufactured by Pflueger. The reel has nickel plating over brass. The plating is in good condition. There are small surface scratches from normal use. And there is some brass showing on the front cover ... morerim(see photos) There is a clicker controlled by a slide button on the back plate and drag control through a second slide button on the rear plate. It is in good working condition. The handle has a hard rubber knob. The reel measures 2-1/4" diameter. 3-1/8" deep including the handle, and has a foot measuring 2-9/16" long by 9/16" wide. Up for bid is one Vintage Brass Single Action Fly Reel with Crank Handle and raised pillars. There is no Clicker. There is no identification as to manufacturer. This reel is constructed of brass. It is in good working condition. The handle has a wood knob. The foot has 4 tabs on the one piece foot that protrude through the front and rear plates that are peened to attached the foot to the plates. The reel is entirely assembled without the use of a single screw. This is a nice looking and nice working little reel. The only mark is on the bottom of the foot where there is either the number"6" or"9" Depending on which way it is read. It measures 1-3/8" diameter. 2-1/2" deep including the handle, and has a foot measuring 2-3/8" long by 1/2" wide. Rare vintage wood & brass fly reel with additional turning strap for casting
This auction is for a 3.5" wood and brass fly reel that was manufactured in the UK during the early 1900's. The reel includes an additional brass turning strap that allows you to turn the reel sideways on the rod for easy casting. In over 20 years of collecting vintage reels I've never seen one like this. And the additional turning strap makes it a very rare item indeed. The reel itself has not been altered in any way and is in perfect original condition. If not required the turning strap can be easily removed. The wood itself has a nice patina and lovely grain with no splits or chips on any surface including the edges. All brass is perfect and original. The brass strap on the back of the reel features a brass switch which controls the ratchet so that you can have it either on or off. Ratchet works perfectly in either direction ... moreand when turned off reel turns freely. Nice twin wooden handles that are firmly attached to the reel with brass pins and surrounds. Up for bid is one Vintage WINCHESTER Model No. 2142 Nickel Plated Brass Raised Pillar Fly Reel with 2:1 Multiplier. Clicker, and Drag Control. The foot has 4 rounded bent up ears that attach to the pillars. The handle knob is ivory colored and appears to be possibly ivory or whale bone. The knob has some cracks which further make it look like ivory or bone. There are two slide buttons on the rear plate, one to control the clicker and one to engage the drag function. It is in good working condition, and good overall condition with the plating in good condition. There are some minor scratches from use(see photos) The front cover is engraved with" WINCHESTER. TRADE MARK. MADE IN USA, 2142" and there is"40" on the bottom of the foot. Winchester bought Hendryx Reel Co. in 1919. And produced fishing tackle from 1920 through ... more1930.
