This is a vintage South Bend Oren-O-Matic No. 1140 model B automatic fly reel. It is used and seems to be fully functional. I don't know too much about these reels. When you wind up the side plate. And then press down the release lever, the spool spins back quickly and smoothly. I assume that is how this reel is supposed to function. I picked this Fly Fishing Reel up at an Estate Sale along with a bunch more(many varieties) and fishing poles that I will be listing in the near future. I am not a fisherman so I will do my best to describe. I do know they are vintage as the family said the grandpa(pasted away 5 years ago in his late 80's) had not been fishing for years. This Fly Reel appears in well used condition from what I can see. However. Everything looks solid and the line retract lever works great and pulls the vintage line in when depressed. Lot of 2. Vintage South Bend Oren-O-Matic balanced fly fishing reels, probably from the early 1950's. Number 1140. Model D•For longer. Heavier fly rods•Burgundy red cases; with paint wear. A few dents and abrasions. Both reels were used, but taken care of. Made in the USA•Line included- corded on one and a thinner monofilament type on the other.
