Vintage 1889 A. F. Meisselbach & Bro. Expert 17 Fly Reel with covered click
Presented for bid is a vintage Expert 17 fly reel with covered click made by A.F. Meisselbach& Bro. This reel is in very good working condition. The handle has a tapered knob. On top of the frame it is inscribed"Expert" The front plate is inscribed"Pat'd Feb 23-86. Nov 23-86, Feb 5-89" The reel is 3" diameter and 2 3/4" deep including the handle. The foot measures 2 1/2" x 5/8" Please look at the photos carefully and ask your questions prior to bidding. I'm not a fisherman, so I am not an expert on fly reels. I ship in the USA only. Recently bought this old reel at a barn sale. It was in with a box of old door knobs. I don't know anything about fishing equipment. So will just describe what I see here. It is approx. 2 3/8" diameter& about 2 1/2" from top to bottom& about 1 1/8" depth. The bottom is marked Featherlight NO. 260, and has 2 patent dates Jan. 14, 1896 and Dec. 27, 1904. The top is marked A.F. Meisselbach& Bro. Newark, N.J. Seems to be in good condition(maybe needs a little cleaning) Freely turns with the little black wooden handle. This vintage reel has a pat. date of Jan.14.1896. It is listed in the"Fishing and Collecting Old Reel& Tackle& History With Albert J. Munger Book on page 29. It states that this reel is an Expert fly reel. It is nickel over brass and has click on reverse brace. There is one wooden knob directly on the spool. This reel is beautiful! Nice and smooth. It is 10" in circumference.

This fishing reel came from an estate auction in Vermont. It is marked AF Meisselbach& Bro Newark. The other side is marked with the letter T. The reel measures 4 5/8" in diameter. It has wear/use marks and some rust. A magnet does not stick to it. Possibly brass.

Antique Vtg AF Meisselbach & Bro Reel w Extra Spool 4 5/8" Fly Fishing w Copper
This fishing reel with extra spool came from an estate auction in Vermont. The main reel is marked AF Meisselbach& Bro Newark. The other side is marked with the letter T. The reel measures 4 5/8" in diameter. I could not find a maker's mark on the extra spool. It also measures 4 5/8" in diameter. This extra spool has copper wire. They both have wear/use marks and some rust. A magnet does not stick to them.

This is not something you see everyday, this is the smallest version this company ever made, at just a meager 1.75 inches in diameter. Don't let this one pass you by! The bottom is marked Jan 14'96 Dec 27'04. I know they basically started producing these in 1904, and went on to do so for many years. This one, is in the Nickel plated finish. Vintage 2 1/2" Meisselbach Bro Fly Fishing Reel
I don't know much about this reel. It belonged to my grandfather and is quite old. The word Meisselbach Bro is engraved on the side. It is made of metal and has a tarnished bronze appearance. The handle is wood. The handle does turn and the reel spins. This nickel plated brass reel is in very good minus condition with some wear to the plating and a bad click button on the tail plate. The top of the frame reads"A.F. MEISSELBACH& BRO.NEWARK N.J. The bottom of the frame reads"Featherlight/No.260" There are two patent dates on the foot. Partially illegible. This reel was manufactured from 1904-1919(Phil White source) and measures 2 1/4" in diameter with a 3/4" wide spool.
