Vintage South Bend 1140 Oreno Matic Automatic Fly Rod Reel Near Mint in Box
You are bidding on a South Bend 1140 Oreno-Matic Free Stripping Fly Rod Reel with its original box and purchase receipt from February 5th. 1961. This reel is in excellent cosmetic and mechanical condition with a couple of very light scratches visible on close inspection. The auto wind is very smooth and the spool spins quickly and smoothly when the retrieve lever is depressed. This reel was either never used or only used very lightly. The box has a water stain on the top and on one side. The other three sides are in good condition and would display very nicely on a shelf. I will always combine shipping on multiple purchases. OLD Vintage South Bend MDL#C OREN-O-MATIC automatic FLY Fising Reel made in USA Red OREN-O-MATIC#1130 c Auto Fly Fish Reel USA This red painted South Bend automatic fly reel harkens to an age when fiberglass rods ruled. This reel works but needs to be cleaned. And its screw( missing slotted head might be repiarable by someone with more knowledge than me. Cosmetically it has 70% of paint; if used as a static wall mount or repaired for use, it would pair nicely with an older model glass rod. The reel measures 3" diameter x 2" wide. And at 9.3 ounces it should balance out any vintage heavier glass or bamboo fly rod.

They did that kind of thing 60 years ago. Reel in fair plus condition. Line- good plus, box- fair(see photo showing small hole in bottom of box) and instructions- good plus. The reel features the OLD South Bend emblem/logo embossed into the housing- see pics! Now the downside- non working/weak spring. I'm able to get it to wind in some line if I crank it up but only a few yards at a time. Spring feels strong( but seems as if it slips if I try and wind it anymore than a few turns. The Reel has a few minor blemishes and scratches but nothing major. The Reel works well and is in good condition. When you wind up the side plate, and then press down the release lever, the spool spins back quickly and smoothly. I would rate the over-all condition of this reel a 6.5- 7 out of 10.
