Presented for bid is a vintage Expert 17 fly reel with covered click made by A.F. Meisselbach& Bro. This reel is in very good working condition. The handle has a tapered knob. On top of the frame it is inscribed"Expert" The front plate is inscribed"Pat'd Feb 23-86. Nov 23-86, Feb 5-89" The reel is 3" diameter and 2 3/4" deep including the handle. Collectors Item: Here we have a featherlight fly fishing reel which was the forerunner of copy cat fly reels from the 1920’s to the‘60’s. In 1896. Gus Meisselbach patented the design and 3 raised piller Featherlights were created: the#280, 260, and#270. They were made of both bronze and nickel. This reel. Made of bronze-the#270, is in excellent working condition. The bronze and the wooden oak? or mahogany? handle is in excellent condition as well. If you collect fly fishing equipment, this is a good find for you. We’re not experts by any means. So if you have questions, please ask and we’ll do our best to provide an answer. VINTAGE MEISSELBACH CATUCCI SYMPLOREEL 372 FLY FISHING REEL
This is a Vintage Meisselbach Catucci Symploreel#372 Fly Fishing Reel. Brown"Bakelite" finish. With silver nickel hardware and a dark green handle knob. The reel is in excellent working condition. It is missing one of the screws for the mounting bracket, but because of the way the reel is constructed, it still mounts firmly on a rod and doesn't wiggle. Cosmetically, it has some blemishes due to normal use, but still looks really good for a reel of this age. See the pictures) It is 3 3/8" diameter; 3/4" spool width; and weighs 5 3/4 ounces. It currently has a Cortland 333 LS 6 Fast Sink Level line with no backing. The original black paint finish has been taken off to expose the aluminum metal. It can be used to reel right or left handed, since the“clicker” works in both directions. This reel was used by my Dad as early as the 1920’s when he began fishing tributaries of the Stoneycreek River in South Central Pennsylvania near Lambertsville. You are bidding on a very old Featherlight No. 250 fly reel. Made by AF MeisselBach& Bros in Newark N.J. this reel is in very,very good shape as can be witnessed in the photos. This is not something you see everyday, this is the smallest version this company ever made, at just a meager 1.75 inches in diameter. Don't let this one pass you by! The bottom is marked Jan 14'96 Dec 27'04. I know they basically started producing these in 1904, and went on to do so for many years. This one, is in the Nickel plated finish. Auction is for a very nice used A F Meisselbach Featherlight No 270 fly fishing reel. This trout size fly reel is a vintage classic skeleton style with raised pillars. Reel measures 3 inches at outer edge of rim. 2 ¼ inch spool diameter with ¾ inch width. Spins and winds easily with working click. This is the Nickel Silver version. This reel was produced between 1895– 1919 and was such a popular reel. Other reel producers such as Shakespeare, South Bend and Pflueger all made similar fly reels fashioned after the Featherlight. Meisselbach Allright No.130 Fly Reel--Casting Reel Circa 1895 to 1900 Vintage
Here we have a Meisselbach Allright No.130. This was considered to be a salt water or trolling reel by Meisselbach. But most call it a fly reel today. Call it what you want. On the spool it has the patent date Feb. 23, 86 and the tail plate has the date of Jan. 14, 96, see photos. The straight tapered grooved shape, of the grasp/knob, dates it 1895 to 1900. Note; Chip at end of grasp. Not bad for over 100 years old. Clicker does work in both directions. Reel is as found. May clean up some. See a full set of photos below. Everything works as it should. Meisselbach Zephyr No.370 Fly Reel Circa 1915--1919 Vintage
Here is a hard to find circa 1915-1919 Meisselbach Fly reel. Zephyr No.370, that is often missed or over looked as they don't ever seem to be marked. It has the same spool( 2 1/4"X 3/4" faceplate and pillars as the Featherlight No.270. It also has the same click spring, pawl and grasp that Meisselbach uses. The tail plate and foot are different. Also the click button is at the top of the tail plate, all other Meisselbach reels are at the bottom. Clicker does work in both directions. Reel is as found. See a full set of photos below. A very nice vintage used A F Meisselbach Symploreel No 370A fly fishing reel. For Bass. No markings on foot. Spool Diameter is 2 3/4 inches. Reel diameter is 3 3/8 inches. This is narrow spool version with 3/4 inch pillars. Agate line guide. Produced from 1929– 1930’s. Minor wear and scuffing and minor chipping on tops of bakelite side plates. Olive green handle. Click works both directions. A nice example of this early model classic reel produced at the time of such reels as Orvis. Vom Hofe, Pflueger and Shakespeare. No Reserve. I welcome questions. Diameter of reel is 3 1'8" Retrieval spring is in dependable condition in that line is retrieved quickly by pushing down on lever. After tightening spring by winding the top. Retrieval works well when this is done. The out-go of line is not smooth. It takes some force to pull out line from reel. And retrieval of line after pulling it out is not as dependable as hand-winding the spring. But this is a great piece of fly fishing memorabilia! PAYMENT Payment through PayPal only.
