It has two large ebonite tapered handles and a brass ribbed foot which is attached to the frame with four brass screws. This reel also has an on/off casting/ratchet lever located on the side of the frame and a knurled drag adjustment knob located in the center of the drum. It is mechanically sound throughout and the drum spins very freely and true. Hardy’s name. Reel name and patent number 24245 is stamped on the back of the cage. In addition. There is an oval silver plate attached to the back of the reel with the inscription“Made For Manton and Co. Calcutta” Circa mid 1930’s making this reel approximately 75 years old! HARDY BROS. "PERFECT" 3 1/8 FLY FISHING REEL- Vintage
Although this reel is used. Its in good shape for its age. There are nicks in the finish, that have some rust in them, but the overall integrity of the reel is intact and great. On the body, on the part that connects the reel to the rod is scratched and shows some minimal rust, but again, this doesn't affect the integrity of the reel. The action is tight and all options seem to be fully operational.

I have here a very nice Vintage HARDY BROS FLY REEL! The reel is in good shape. And all mechanical functions are intact! But as you can see by pictures. There are some wear and defects. Does need some cleaning. But in over-all decent shape(see pictures) GREAT ADDITION TO ANY SET UP or COLLECTION! I know these reels are VERY expensive. So I provide the following disclaimer: I have no personal knowledge that this is a Hardy Bros. Reel. I was told by a local collector that this is what it is. And therefore, I am representing it as such. It does match pictures on the internet. But the maker's mark has worn off, so I cannot verify with 100% certainty. I know very little about Hardy reels other then some of them can be quite expensive so here goes. I found this at a garage sale attached to an old fly rod and the way the pictures show is the way I found it. It does need a good cleaning and lubrication however the clicker is one of the loudest that I have heard on a fly reel. Looks to have normal wear to the metal body& edges and the reel seat on one end has a tiny chip of metal missing[ last pic] It's real tiny and should not be an issue. A nice old reel for restoration. Parts or display. It's all here, but it has seen better days! Check out the photos for the details. There are plenty of scratches and nicks from years of use. You can also see an unfortunate"operation identification" engraving on the face. Ouch. The drag does not work. The picture shows the mechanism, and the individual parts move nicely, but the drag does not engage the spool at all. Don't forget the spool! It installs nicely and doesn't have any major damage. The outside face has scratching, but no big diggers like the reel. Overall, the outside diameter of the reel is 3 1/2" Let me know if you have any questions. SOME INFO ON THIS PAT NUMBERS: BY"THE CLASSIC FLY RODS FORUM" Patent#24245 was applied for on October 19. 1910& granted on June 01, 1911. the scematics submitted on 10/19/1910 bear an early variant of what would eventually become known as the gun-lock spring& pawl check- i.e. the 1912 check. Specifically, patent#24245 covered not only the radial and free-floating disposition of the pawl. But also a silent retrieval feature as found on Silex reels. Though#9261 is referenced in various catalogues. One of the earliest being a(1917) wartime Hardy catalogue, and is stamped into various Hardy reels, usually in juxtaposition to#24245, there are no records indicating that patent-status ... morewas ever granted to#9261. this pattern not totally alien to Hardys, as other reconciled(patent) numbers can also be found on earlier Hardy tackle and in fact. 9261 could still found stamped into Hardy reels well into the'20s. James Hardy makes mention of the fact that#9261 covered the compensating checkwork and because#9261& 24245 are seemingly coterminous. This is great reel for those situations where stealth is really needed. The check is progressive so it will protect light tippets. The faster the run the less pressure is put on the check system. It comes with the pouch shown and is left or right hand retrievable simply by changing the direction of the line guide and flipping the internal gear. This is achieved by undoing the screw on the tension knob and the 5/16" nut beneath it. The reel is set for LHW. But I can switch it to RHW for you if need be. Just let me know at checkout. Vintage Hardy Bros. LTD The " L.R.H Lightweight " Fly Reel England UNUSED
I don't think this reel has ever been used. It looks brand new except for some very minor scuffs that look like they just happened from being on a shelf or in a drawer. There are no marks where it would fit onto a rod(see pic) I bought this several years ago at an estate sale with a whole box of fishing equipment. I have used most of the other items and actually forgot about having this. Just rediscovered it in my shop. It is a very smooth operating reel and extremely light. You are bidding on a Vintage. Hardy Bros Ltd, The Perfect Fly Reel 3 1/8" with Old Green Line. The reel itself seems to work smooth as it should with no apparent broken parts. The agate line guide has 2 very small fissures but the agate is still tight in the steel ring(Please see pic 5) There is some scratching and tiny nicks around the edge in what I would consider normal wear. There is some tarnishing and it could use a good cleaning and lube. Please study all pics carefully before bidding. This reel will make a perfect gift or a great addition to any collection.

Up for auction is a beautiful fly fishing reel. It is The"Perfect" 2 7/8 made by Hardy Bros Ltd in England. The reel retains it original sheep's wool lined suede leather case. The reel has wear to the edges. It is in all around very nice condition and ready to use. Fresh out of a fine old estate.

Vintage Hardy Bros. Fly Fishing Reel - St. George 2 916" C. 1950's
2 9/16" Hardy St. George Fly Reel. Condition is used but very good. It has recently been cleaned and lubed through Hardy Warranty Service USA in Spirit Lake. IA. The description on the reel is as follows: MADE BY HARDY BROS. LTD/ENGLAND/THE ST. GEORGE 2 9/16" The line guide on this reel is metal(monel) as opposed to an agate. This reel was produced post World War II as can be determined by the straight line lettering. Many St. George Reels, as well as Perfects, came with metal rather than agate line guides, especially those produced after World War II.
