Vintage Horrocks Ibbotson Vernley Trout Fly Fishing Reel Utica NY
I am Paypal Verified. This reel was made by Horrocks Ibbotson Company of Utica NY. It is made of made of bakelite. This reel was on the 1930's Horrocks Ibboton Split bamboo fly fishing rod-model"Beaver" which I have listed. It has line on it. It is marked Vernley Trout Reel. It seems to be functional and in good shape. Weighs just over 5 ounce. Reel is 3" diameter. 3/4" wide spool, reel foot is 2 1/2" long. The reel clicks in the on position the spool spins nicely in the off position. No cracks, but does have one small chip on the front-see picture utica Ny chip is where NY would be. Vintage HORROCKS IBBOTSON CO. brown bakelite fly fishing reel in very nice condition. Marked: VERNLEY TROUT REEL. Manufactured in Utica. NY. I see no date. Other than minimal wear commensurate with age, the only negative I have to report is a tiny hairline, superficial, cosmetic crack on the crank side of the reel. That blemish is easily viewed in the 1st and 3rd attached pics. Reel operates smoothly.perfectly. Measures approx. 2 3/4" Thanks!

I am auctioning a Horrocks Ibbotson Vernley Trout fly reel. Not 100% sure but i think the reel is made of bakelite. Reel is in working condition(except for one issue noted further) and in good cosmetic condition for its age. Includes old fishing line. One issue is the clicker wont stay"off" and goes back to"on" position so you will hear the clicker when you turn the reel. May be an easy fix if you don't want to hear the clicker. Please see pictures. Can be used in saltwater or freshwater if desired for use. Great for collectors! I thought it was perfect. But found that the outer rim has a couple of breaks on one side. This reel should be very useful for parts. The clicker still works and the inner spool appears to be perfect.

Please take a close look at the photos. It is as if this 1930's reel had just come off the assembly line. It appears to have never had line nor seen a brook. It shows no sign of wear. Or blemishes of any kind. NO damage. NO cracks, NO chips, NO repairs. According to research. The reel was made in Connecticut for the Horrocks Ibbotson Company of Utica NY by Lepco Moulding Co of Bridgeport CT. It is an exceptionally fine example of early plastic manufacturing. It is made from compression molded phenolic material more commonly known as Bakelite.
