Vintage Mohawk Martin Automatic Fly Reel 94A BOX TOO
Pretty nice old Martin 49A here. Box has some issues from silverfish and a dent as shown. Reel has slight scratches(fingernail probably) from removing the sticker. Works great and still looks good. Paperwork is warranty and instructions along with a hunk of cardboard is included. There are places where the red has worn and there is wear and scratches on the aluminium portions. This was purchased from a local estate and we have not cleaned or done anything to the reel. This was in an Estate Lot and I don't know how to test it, But it seems to turn and is thought to be in working condition. It has old line on it, which may need to be replaced. Research tells me that Martin is one of the oldest reel makers since 1884. And the"Automatic" Reel was invented by George Cook from Louisville, Ky in 1899. Up for your bidding consideration is this vintage MARTIN AUT' FLY FISHING REEL in good original condition. This vintage reel is a RARE first edition of fly fishing reels made by the MARTIN FISH REEL Co. when they were in Mohawk. New York. It is marked as their No. 1 and Pat. Appl'd for are clearly stamped onto the aluminum case(see pics. It appears to be in good working condition though I am not an angler and know little about these fly fishing reels. It does have line in it and it does feed and lock as it should. This piece was acquired from the original owners family and was told that he was an avid fly fisherman and always kept his fishing equipment in top working condition. That said. It is a used reel and shows use with some dings and dents on the flat cover side. It could use a cleaning I am sure but again does seem to function ... moreas it should. It does"click" wind up and the brass knurled release seems to work fine. A very early rendition fly fishing reel by MARTIN that would surely make a grand additon to any fishermans collection! NY) It shows usage and could use restoration(paint. it may be in it's original condition. The unique part I find on this reel is the way it comes apart with just a click of the fingertip(see pics where pencil tip is pointing to metal piece which when moved allows for easy maintenance and cleaning. There's an"on. Off" part that usually(I thought)makes the reel click louder, but on either setting, it is a quiet reel, so I am not sure if that's an issue that needs tlc.or its the way its supposed to be. This auction is for one(1) older style fly fishing reel generally described as follows. Stamped on one side of the reel: MARTIN FISHING REEL AUTOMATIC MOHAWK N.Y. MADE IN U.S.A. PAT. NOS. 2-175-756 2-301-732 6 As indicated this is an automatic reel in functioning condition. When the"blue" knob is turned it does wind up the internal spring. When the external lever is depressed the internal reel spins. The piece appears to be intact with all screws. Rod attachment clip and take up lever. As seen in the attached photos this reel is in good used condition. Most of the exposed surface area is soiled with oil residue. Soiling and scratches. A large percentage of the blue paint is worn and soiled. General measurements: Outside diameter: 3-3/8" Thickness: 1-5/8" The line on the reel is of an unknown type and/or style.
