Vintage South Bend 1140 Oreno Matic Automatic Fly Rod Reel Near Mint in Box
You are bidding on a South Bend 1140 Oreno-Matic Free Stripping Fly Rod Reel with its original box and purchase receipt from February 5th. 1961. This reel is in excellent cosmetic and mechanical condition with a couple of very light scratches visible on close inspection. The auto wind is very smooth and the spool spins quickly and smoothly when the retrieve lever is depressed. This reel was either never used or only used very lightly. The box has a water stain on the top and on one side. The other three sides are in good condition and would display very nicely on a shelf. I will always combine shipping on multiple purchases. It appears unused. I cannot find any cosmetic flaw on the reel. The spring mechanism winds well and retrieve and spin super strong! Box top is in excellent shape. South Bend "Oreno-matic Free Stripping Automatic" Fly Fishing Reel--Original Box
This is a vintage South Bend“Oreno-matic 1140 Free Stripping Automatic Fly Reel” in the original box and with the original“Reel Repair Stations Guide. Reel surface shows the normally expected scuffs and scratches associated with ordinary light use. Internal springs and mechanisms appear to be taut and in good working order. And reel features smooth silent winding, fold-away precision control trigger, and stainless steel line protector. As you can see from the photos, the original box is completely intact, and is stiff and clean, though understandably shows some signs of its age. I have left the original fly line on for the collector, though I would advise replacing the line for the fly fisher who plans on using the reel. This will serve as an inexpensive introductory reel for the beginning fly fisher, a potentially useful reel for those who ... moremight otherwise have difficulty operating a manual fly reel(e.g. arthritis) or a handsome addition for the collector. Up for bidding is a South Bend Oreno-O- Matic automatic fly reel. It is number 1140. It has 3-42-1140 after the name and EG above it. The rod holder foot has Gladding Group Japan. The South Bend label is poor. You can see the 1140. There is paint rubbed off on some areas around the edges. The mechanics and spool are excellent. I do not have very much knowledge of fly reels.
