The 1494 has been used more than the 1495, check pics and you can tell just by the paint wear. Both spin smooth with a clear consistent clicking sound. Vintage Pflueger Medalist No 1494 Fly Fishing Reel w/ 2 Extra Spools Pre-Shakespeare model Manufactured between 1959 and 1965 This is truly a vintage find and represents the culmination of the development of the Medalist reel series between 1938 and 1966(when the company was acquired by Shakespeare) The last pre-Shakespeare version of the Medalist 1494 is distinguished by a"Made in Akron O USA" stamp(see photo) Indicating it was made between 1959 and 1965, when Pflueger added the reversible drag ratchet plate. If you are interested in the history of the Medalist series, more information can be found at. This particular set consists of one complete reel. Plus two extra spools. Mechanically this reel is sound and provides a lot of flexibility with the added spools. As indicated in the pictures, the outer cover plate has some bubbling ... morenear the adjustable drag and the foot. The drag mechanism seems to work very well and the reel’s action is smooth. The spools are all in good condition, although two of them have light engraving that says“DUNTON PACK” referring to the spit bamboo flyrod that was paired with this reel setup. Beautiful Pflueger Medalist 1494 DA fly reel with spare spool. Reel looks to have been used sparingly and well cared for. Just a few nicks but the action is smooth as could be. Label on reel spool reads Orvis WF 5F/S. Can't honestly say that this is what's on there though. Line is dominantly off white fading to dark brown at the end. Spare spool looks even better. I don't know much about this reel and have not personally used it. The outer ring on the side with the handle is loose because there are some screws and bars missing. Could still be used for parts or repair. It turns one way and makes a clicking noise as it turns. It does show age. Use and wear. Please look at the pictures. Being sold as is.
