The spool measures 2 1/8" in diameter. The outer cage measures 2 7/8" in diameter. The brass has a good looking patina to the metal it has not been polished in about 6 years and is darkening nicely. For auction is a very nice mid 1900's Pflueger Progress No. 1774 solid brass frame with aluminum spool fly reel. This model has the slide option between click and free spin and functions properly. This reel is very clean and an absolute joy to use. The brass is very shiny. It is difficult to capture in photographs, and the aluminum is in nice shape with a shine. The sound of the clicking while fighting a trout is a special sound. While these pair perfectly with bamboo rods, I have enjoyed using it with 4/5 weight modern rods, It may be appropriate for up to 6 weight. This reel has a total weight of 136 grams or 4.75 oz. I cant remember the year for these reels but to be honest they are some of my favorite reels to use on my old bamboo rods. You can use this on a glass rod as well. I had this reel buffed out a few years ago it has been sitting with my other equipment untouched for about 2 years now. If you got a few mins and a buffing tool you will have a true shinner. This gun metal frame/ nickel finish spool 60 yd. size Pflueger Progress fly reel has a wooden knob. The Bulldog logo on the foot, and is in near mint condition: it looks beautiful and is mechanically excellent. At some point in its life it apparently was given as a gift to a WWII war veteran: I unfolded the paper it nestles on in the box, and discovered that it is a party napkin with color pictures of a tank, a battleship, a B-29 bomber, and artillery. Pflueger Progress Skeleton Fly Reel Late Transitional Model Here is an unusual Pflueger Progress raised pillar. Skeleton frame fly reel with a squared off foot and flattened spool screw, like the foot and spool screw on a round frame Progress reel. I have a round frame 1774 Progress in my collection in a box dated 6/39, and two other square foot skeleton Progress reels in boxes dated 1/40. It seems obvious that Enterprise was using up it's old stock parts by fitting the old skeleton fly reel frames with the new, square feet from the round frame Progress reels. This example has a gunmetal frame and nickel plated spool and is stamped on the foot as a 60 yard reel. Shows light finish wear. Spins like a top and the click is strong in both directions. I think the amber knobbed Progress reels were made in the early 30's as I have seen a couple in boxes dated 1931. And probably not made for too long since the amber knobs tend to crystallize and disintegrate over time. This is a gunmetal frame reel with a nickel plated spool. A vintage Pflueger Progress fly reel in good working condition. Small at 2-3/8" diameter. Reel is made in USA of steel. On-off click drag. There is the number"60" stamped on the bottom of the reel foot. About half to 3/4 full of old.048 dia line. At this small size. That will not be a lot of length. I did the burn test and it made black beads. So it would be synthetic and not silk. A sweet little reel. Fully functional. I was going to put it on a 4-weight rod for close work on our small eastern Oklahoma steams. But I can do that with any reel, and this little jewel belongs in someone's collection.

Up for bid is one( 1) PFLUEGER PROGRESS FLY FISHING REEL made of brass. This reel has the numbers 80 on the reel seat and seems to be in working order. The knob is made of wood and it is a pretty nice looking reel. I don't know alot about it other than it's been in the family home for over 40 years. It weighs just at 4 ounces. Except for a couple rub spots that you can see in the many photo's I have for you. Cosmetically it is in fine shape. I clean things before listing but they can always be detailed to shine much better than I have the time for. Mechanically the reel has a very strong clicker and the handle is in great shape. The only issue I find on this reel is. That as you wind it, it comes to a spot that has a slight catch. I should not think would not stop you from fishing with it, however I do wish to disclose all I find Reel is 3" diameter. 2 1/2" reel foot, spool width is 1" Maker is Enterprise Mfg. Co. of Akron Ohio. Condition is good. It has had very little use. The spool has the large drum so a lot of backing is not necessary. This Pflueger Fly Reel is a nice. Well cared for vintage piece. It has Three cross bars and then for the reel foot a heavy double cross bar. There are no bends. Dents, or gouges on the side plates. You can super size the photo's. The 50's came out with some very nice reels. This is a great collectible or working reel.
