It is a dark red 1946 vintage South Bend Oren-O-Matic No. 1140 Model D. This one may have been used but not significantly. It is near new in the original box with the original instructions and loaded with vintage line. The instruction book is dated 1946. I am unsure what the line is.other than a vintage waxy brown line. As I said. The reel is in as minty condition as you can hope to find one of these. The high profile areas are nearly always missing some or most of the finish as it just wears off. This one has very little in the way of rub marks or wear. It loads and rewinds perfectly. The box has some shelf wear as you can see but it is complete with undamaged corners. This reel works but needs to be cleaned. And its screw( missing slotted head might be repiarable by someone with more knowledge than me. Cosmetically it has 70% of paint; if used as a static wall mount or repaired for use, it would pair nicely with an older model glass rod. The reel measures 3" diameter x 2" wide. And at 9.3 ounces it should balance out any vintage heavier glass or bamboo fly rod.

A South Bend Oren-o-Matic automatic fly reel#1130 Model C along with a full compliment of what you would expect to outfit yourself with had you made the purchase in the local sporting goods shop back in the 1940/50's- box with instructions as well( 1946 copyrite! as an almost new line in the old letter ... morecode GBF/ AFTMA WF8F along with the beautiful black with gold and red embossing line tag- the only thing missing is the tissue paper the reel was probably wrapped in. They did that kind of thing 60 years ago. Reel in fair plus condition. Line- good plus, box- fair(see photo showing small hole in bottom of box) and instructions- good plus. The reel features the OLD South Bend emblem/logo embossed into the housing- see pics! Now the downside- non working/weak spring. I'm able to get it to wind in some line if I crank it up but only a few yards at a time. Spring feels strong( but seems as if it slips if I try and wind it anymore than a few turns. Maybe fixable but I don't have any expertise in that department. PLEASE VERIFY MY GRADING BY CLOSELY EXAMINING ALL THE PICTURES- Thank you! And then press down the release lever, the spool spins back quickly and smoothly. I assume that is how this reel is supposed to function.
