Pflueger Medalist 1498 Fly Reel, USA-made, with Box,Papers,and Line
This is a vintatage fly reel in excellent condition.I received it used 20+ years ago and never used it.It comes with the box.Parts list,dressed floating line which is tapered, and the pamplet which describes the line,but does not give the size or weight.I did find a few pitted spots on the rear pillars(the round crome dowels holding the frame together) and rubbed them off with emery cloth.The reel is described as a heavy duty model designed for salmon, steelhead,bonefish,tarpon,ect.Large line capacity.Reinforced spool and back plate,large adjustable drag for extra braking capacity.Duel clicks,adjusable weight,and stainless steel line guard. The 1498 has1' pillars,a 4" PLATE. This Pflueger 1498 Medalist reel was purchased from the granddaughter of Ed Nussell. Who was one of Arthur Howald's partners in the Conolon Corporation; the granddaughter says it was the reel Mr. Nussell used for steelheading on the McKenzie River. It is in very good condition-I'd rate it an A7M9; mechanically excellent, but aesthetic markdowns are that Mr. Nussell added a few splashes of fingernail polish for reasons I'm sure he could tell if he were still around-but he ain't; and he scratched the line size(GBF-equivalent to a modern WF9F) on the face of the spool. The reel is loaded with a transitional ca. 1950s weight forward fly line, size G running line, B weight casting line, and tapering to an F tip; it is constructed of braided Dacron with a plastic coating.
