HEDDON Split Bamboo Fly Rod 8' No. 20 3/2 w/ Original Bag& Tube Nice Heddon Split Bamboo Fly Rod. The tag on bag is marked"No. 20. Fer. 1¾, Lgt. 8' Weight 4 oz. This is a 3/2 rod with two tips, the Original Bag& Red Aluminum Storage Tube. There is no writing or markings on the shaft above the cork handle. The Brass reel lock nut is marked"Patent 1807078" The two lower sections are mostly straight, but not perfectly straight. The heavy tip has a slight set and the light tip has a more pronounced set. All ferrules and wraps look sound& tight and the finish on all sections is glossy& smooth. The cork handle shows some patina from use, but has no serious chips or chunks missing. The only other notable defect is the plastic reel holder section does not fit tightly in the cork handle. It moves a bit and ... moremay need to be repaired for a tighter fit. The cloth bag is coming apart somewhat at one end and is held together with masking tape. The aluminum tube has many small dents& scratches. But is straight and the end cap screws on tightly. Note that our camera's lens sometimes makes long objects look bent- most of the bends/curves seen in the photo's of the rod are due to that and are NOT the slight bends/set in the various rod sections mentioned in the description. He is a big collector of bamboo rods and had some extra Heddon tips. So he found one that fit and added it to this set. So the lighter tip is a Heddon(in spite of the different wraps and ferrul) but he does not remember what model Heddon it came from. He says he has fished with it and it works fine.

This is a newly rebuilt smallstream split bamboo fly rod in three pieces with extra tip seven foot two inches long in four weight.The rod is built with blanks from a Southbend 323 shortened at the male ferrule ends and uses all premium components.The reelseat is nickle silver cap and ring type the cork grip is in the western style and"A" grade. We used all black line guides and tip tops the stripper is stainless and the hookeeper is silver ring type. The cane is finished with three coats of spar varnish and is wrapped in black and white classic twist. We lawn cast the rod and suggest four weight line the action is medium.

Up for auction an Extremely Nice 1947-1952 SOUTH BEND NO.59 9 FT. 3/2 SPLIT BAMBOO FLY ROD WITH ORIGINAL LABELED BAG. The No.59 was first introduced by the South Bend Bait Company in 1936 and would sell through 1952. Because this example carries the rectangular"SOUTH BEND- A Name Famous In Fishing" rodshaft decal, we know it's a post-war model built from 1947 to 1952. I've added a photo of the original listing from South Bend's 1947 catalog. Rodshaft is also stamped"59- 9' on an opposite flat. The thumbrest on the grip still carries the original"Comficient Grip" foil label. Built from beautifully flamed Tonkin cane and comes equipped with extra tip section, Garnix stripping guide, hardened steel snake guides& tip tops, welted& serrated ferrules, hook keeper, screw-locking"Lite-Lock" ... morereel seat with chromed hardware, solid cork ventilated"Comficient" grip and wrapped in brown silk. Built in"bass" action, with an"HCH or C" catalog line weight recommendation(equivalent to today's modern 7 wt. lines) Rod is in about Very Fine condition for these, showing only very light wear. Bamboo is perfect, with no splits, cracks or delamination whatsoever. All four sections are the correct equal length and are quite straight. Original varnish remains very nice. All wraps are solid and complete. Decal and rodshaft markings are pristine. All guides, tip tops, ferrules(which"pop" nicely) winding check and hook keeper are excellent. Reel seat is superb, working perfectly and showing little evidence of use. The cork grip remains nice. This rod just hasn't seen much action at all. 1932-1935 SOUTH BEND #77 9', 3/2 Split Bamboo Fly Rod With The Scarce ORIGINAL
Up for auction a Very Nice 1932-1935 SOUTH BEND NO.77 9 FT. 3/2 SPLIT BAMBOO FLY ROD WITH THE SOMEWHAT SCARCE ORIGINAL, CORRECTLY LABELED BAG, METAL TIP TUBE& TIP BAG. One that doesn't show up very often these days, the No.77 was an economy model that was first introduced in 1932 by the South Bend Bait Company and would sell right up until WWII. Because this is finished in what South Bend called"deep brown" and is equipped with the chromed screw-locking reel seat, we know this is an earlier example built from 1932 to 1935. I've added a photo of the original listing from South Bend's 1934 catalog. Rodshaft carries an absolutely perfect"South Bend Bait Company- Quality Tackle" oval decal. On an opposite flat is written"77- 9' in white ink. Up for auction a Very Nice 1950-1952 SOUTH BEND NO.59 9 FT. 3/2 SPLIT BAMBOO FLY ROD WITH THE ORIGINAL LABELED BAG& LABELED FIBER TUBE. This popular"Bass" action model fly rod was introduced by the South Bend Bait Co. in 1936 and would sell through the 1952 season. Because this example carries the rectangular"SOUTH BEND- A Name Famous In Fishing" rodshaft decal(used after WWII, from 1947-1952) and is equipped with the"Positive-Lock" reel seat(first equipped so in 1950) we know this was built from 1950 to 1952. Rodshaft is also stamped"59-9' on an opposite flat. I've added a photo of the original listing from South Bend's 1952 catalog. The catalog suggests it be used with today's modern 7 or 8 wt. line. A perfect example of a common economy model that becomes rather scarce and desirable when found in this nice of condition. Easily, the finest I've seen of this model. Built by the Montague Rod& Reel Company, sometime shortly after WWII until about 1952. Rodshaft sports a perfect oval"Montague- Lake Pleasant" decal. The grip still carries the original paper"Lake Pleasant" factory label, which is also in perfect condition and rarely found intact on these models. Bamboo is perfect, with no splits, cracks or delamination whatsoever. All four sections are the correct equal length and are reasonably straight. Original varnish remains very nice. All wraps are solid and complete. All guides, tip tops, ferrules and winding check are excellent. Ferrules"pop" nicely when separated. Reel seat works perfectly. The solid cork grip is in superb condition which, along with the factory label, look virtually brand new. One would have a very difficult time trying to upgrade this beauty. This is a newly rebuilt tow piece with single tip smallstream split bamboo fly rod six foot one inch long in three weight.The rod is built from the mid and tip section of a Southbend 323 nine foot using all premium components including a nickle silver cap and ring reelseat on a maple wood insert with a ell cork grip in"A" grade. We used all stainless line guides. Tip top, stripper and hookeeper. The cane is finished wit three coats of spar varnish and is wrapped in siler and black classic twist.We lawn cast the rod and suggest three weight DT line and action is medium.

Heddon Premiere #115 9'-2 3/4 F Split bamboo Fly Rod
To be honest I do not know anything about fly rods. This fly rod was my grandfathers fishing pole and was given to me after his passing. I've had it stored for more then 15 years in a climate control gun safe. The bamboo is in excellent shape with no cracking or splintering. The cork handle has some minor wear and tear(casual scarring and dings from use)but is in overall excellent condition. I believe there are a few eyes missing but again im not sure it even came with the eyes in those spots. This listing comes with the fly rod and original tube. Unfortunately I do not have the cloth sheath. Also. You can see that the tube has been dinged up and the label is not perfect, but it is still readable. Thank you and enjoy! Although it is chipped and a remains of a word that ends in m or n up the rod from the decal on one side. The other rods handle is unmarked. Vintage 3/2 Split Bamboo Fly Rod 'Spiros Challenge' Heddon Trade Rod?
Normal 0 MicrosoftInternetExplorer4 Welcome To My Auction The item up for bid is one(1) vintage 3/2 split bamboo fly rod. This rod has some very interesting features which I will describe but cannot explain. The rod is marked'Spiros Challenge' The Spiros Co. was a retailer out of San Fransico and had rods built for them by Heddon and since the rod appears to have a Heddon reel seat it would follow that this is a Heddon built rod. The rod is also marked 9'3" which is what it measures but consensus has it. Among people that know far more than I about boo rods, that 9'3" is not a size that was made and the 9'3" on the rod was added at some later date by someone other than Heddon. All of the information about the size may be so but does little to explain the section lengths and the placement of the snakes on ... morethe two tip sections. Both tip sections measure 37 5/8" long but as can be seen in photos 2& 3 the placement of the snakes is off anywhere from 3/4" to 2" 4 snakes 4 different placements. The mid section is 37 1/2"and the base is 37 3/8" The boo on all sections has no de-lamination, cracks or splinters. The plastic reel seat is a little bumpy and at first I thought it was somehow melted at some point but after examining it closer it looks as if the plastic used(possibly Tenite) went through some chemical change similar to what Heddon experienced in some of their first plastic lures. The rod comes to you in a wooden carrier as pictured. SOUTH BEND 24-9 SPLIT BAMBOO FLY FISHING ROD 3/2 with Original BAG
South Bend 24-9 Bamboo Fly Rod. 9' 3 piece 2 tips. Model 24, 9ft) Rated for line HCH or C which equates to a 7 weight line today. I've lawn cast this with 6 and it felt good. It will cast a 5 weight line as well but did feel a little under lined. If you like a fast rod you may actually like it with a 5wt more. All sections are straight and full length. It comes with the original bag but no tube. I'll ship it in a PVC tube. It's in fishable condition as it is with one of the tips. But it does have a couple small issues. One tiptop eye on one of the tip sections was replaced but needs to be replaced again because it had been broken(the bamboo is NOT broken or looks damaged- just the tip top eye) See Pictures. The varnish on the mid section could stand to be stripped and redone. Someone had replaced the snake guide and looks ... morelike they tried to re-varnish that section and didn't let it dry completely or something. See Pictures. You could take this rod out and fish it now with one of the tips but it would also be a good rod to refinish. Up for Auction is a Vintage Ellery Arms Co Split Bamboo Cane Fly Fishing Rod 3 Pc 2 Tips 9 FT with Rattan Handle Rare. I am not a collector or a fly fisherman so i dont know a lot about the fly rod. However the ellery arms co existed from 1908- 1933. Also it looks as if the company only built rods from about 1918 to the late 20's so the Rod is definately vintage. The base piece measures 37" the middle piece measures just short of 37" the middle and base piece don't slip together easily and one tip measures just short of 35" and the other measures 33" and weighs in at just under 7 pounds.I am selling the rod as a restoration or collectors piece. 1905-1925 MONTAGUE CITY ROD CO. 9', 3/2 Split Bamboo & (Mortised) Fly Rod With
Up for auction an Especially Nice 1905-1925 MONTAGUE CITY ROD CO. 9 FT. 3/2 SPLIT BAMBOO FLY ROD WITH INLAID CEDAR"MORTISING" ORIGINAL WOOD FORM HOLDER. These were produced by Montague City Rod Co. as"trade" rods and would have been available throughout the first quarter of the last century. They would have been supplied to any number of retailers, wholesalers or jobbers across the country. This early example has been beautifully restored to original. Built with quality Calcutta cane and with a drastically swelled butt inlaid(mortised) with strips of cedar, making for a very handsome rod. Also comes equipped with new stainless snake guides, chromed tip tops, nickel silver"waisted" Montague ferrules, n/s winding check, standard Montague/Chubb sliding band reel seat, sheet-cork grip and closely wound in black and ... morered silk, with full intermediates. There are no less than 127 individual wraps. Rod is in solid Fine to Very Fine condition, showing just moderate wear to most of the hardware. Bamboo is perfect, with no splits, cracks or delamination. All four sections are the correct equal length, with some light to moderate sets. The cedar"mortising" remains in superb condition. Varnish and wraps are pristine, as one would expect. All guides and tip tops are new original replacements. Ferrules"pop" nicely when separated. The winding check, reel seat and cork grip show normal wear and remain in good condition. Put up in the original cloth-covered wood form holder, which is also in Fine condition, solid and complete. This early example from Montague is ready to enhance one's collection or be put right to work. To be sold with a very low starting bid and NO RESERVE. Very TUFF to Find a Very Early PAT PENDING Goodwin Granger Victory made in Denver. 9 ft 4 piece Bamboo Fly Rod with 2 tip although 1 tip is A couple inches short as you can see but looks like it was made that way, I dont know for sure, and the bag and tube WHICH ARE THE WRONG BAG AND TUBE AS THEY ARE TOO LONG BUT INCLUDED! the 3 lengths are about 36 1/2" long, I dont see any cracks or breaks, tHIS ROD IS IN SUPERB CONDITION! C.1920-1930 MONTAGUE "Foothills" 9', 3/2 Split Bamboo TRADE Fly Rod w/Bag & Tube
Up for auction a rather nice CIRCA 1920-1930 MONTAGUE"FOOTHILLS" 9 FT. 3/2 SPLIT BAMBOO*TRADE* FLY ROD WITH CLOTH BAG& ALUMINUM TUBE. This was a Trade rod built by Montague for and sold exclusively by Sears, Roebuck& Co. who owned the trademarked"Foothills" brand name of fishing rods. Montague was still supplying Sears with this model at least as late as 1938, but I believe this is an earlier example from roughly 1920 to 1930. It is identical to Montague's Model No.500-1/2 from their regular rod lineup. Foothills" is nicely inked in script on the rodshaft, the only marking on these rods. Built with Calcutta cane and comes equipped with extra tip section, steel stripper, new stainless snake guides, new chromed tip tops, Montague's"waisted" welted ferrules, NPB winding check, standard Montague/Chubb ... moresliding band reel seat, solid cork grip and wound in red silk, with intermediates. Rod is in about Very Good to Fine condition, partially restored to original. Shows moderate overall wear and a few glue lines, but it's ready to enhance one's collection or be put right to work. Bamboo is free of damage, with all four sections the correct equal length and virtually arrow-straight. Varnish, wraps and guides are new and are pristine. Ferrules are also damage-free and still pop when separated. Reel seat works perfectly. Winding check and solid cork grip remain in good condition. The cloth bag, possibly original, hasn't been near as lucky. Shows overall wear and several holes, but still remains solid and serviceable. Put up in a period aluminum tube, which is also in Very Good condition and shows a few dings near the top. Cap twists on tightly and securely. A nice example of an early version of these Trade rods from Sears/Montague that don't often show up for sale. To be sold with a very low starting bid and NO RESERVE. 1937-1941 SOUTH BEND No.357, 8-1/2', 3/2 "Dry Fly" Split Bamboo Fly Rod With The
Up for auction a rather nice 1937-1941 SOUTH BEND No.357"DRY FLY" 8-1/2 FT. 3/2 SPLIT BAMBOO FLY ROD WITH THE ORIGINAL CORRECTLY LABELED BAG& SOUTH BEND ALUMINUM TUBE. The No.357 dry fly version was first introduced in 1937 and would go on to sell through 1953. Because this example carries the oval"South Bend Bait Company- Quality Tackle" logo rodshaft decal(used only before WWII) we know this was built from 1937 to 1941. The rodshaft is also stamped"357- 8-1/2' on an opposite flat. For whatever reason(s) these models with the solid walnut grips(the No.357C was equipped with the cork grip) just don't show up for sale very often. Built with nicely flamed Tonkin cane and comes equipped with extra tip section, Garnix stripping guide, hardened steel snake guides& tip tops, welted chromed ferrules, NPB ... morewinding check, chromed screw-locking reel seat, solid walnut half-Wells grip and wound in what South Bend called"rainbow colored" silk. The 8-1/2 ft. models were rated for HDH or D lines, equivalent to today's modern 6 wt. lines. I've included a photo of the original listing, taken from South Bend's 1939 catalog. Rod is in about Good to Very Good condition for these, showing moderate overall wear. There is a crack through the reel seat, which keeps it from grading higher, even though the reel seat remains solid and in fine working order. Bamboo is perfect, with no splits, cracks or delamination whatsoever. All four sections are the correct equal length and are quite straight. The varnish looks like it could have been replaced some time ago and remains in good condition. Decal and rodshaft markings are pristine. All wraps are solid and complete, with one rewrap on the mid. All guides, tip tops, ferrules(still"pop" and winding check are nice. Solid walnut grip is excellent. Put up in the original bag, which shows heavy overall wear, but is solid and serviceable. Still carries the original early pre-war bag label, which is correctly marked for the rod

Up for bid a beautifully restored 9’ PHILLIPSON PARAGON Split Bamboo Fly Rod 3/2 On one of the flats is the rod’s name and on one of the others is#29… 9– 5 5/8 HCH. All sections are full length and it has a beautiful 3 X 3 node pattern. The ferrules are very tight and pop when taken apart. The rod is very straight with the exception of one tip with just the slights set. Near the tip(very slight) It has been recently restored, and yes the colors of the wraps are as close as the original color as you can get, and they are not beige, they are a silver/grey thread, they just have not yellowed due to age. Vintage 3-Piece 8 1/2-Foot KINGFISHER Split Bamboo Fly Rod
Up for auction here is a vintage 3-piece 8 1/2-foot split bamboo fly rod marked KINGFISHER on the reel seat. A tag that came with the rod claimed it was made by Heddon but I cannot confirm this. All eyes are present and all windings match and appear to be original. Each section is about 35 inches long. There is only slight warping in the rod– it would display well but is in very good condition and suitable for use. The rod will ship by Priority Mail as a 2-pound package. Nice Estate Sale Find. Vintage Heddon Thorobred#14 Split Bamboo Rod. 91/2 feet long. 2 3/4 Fer. The bamboo rod is in great shape, but missing 2 eyes. I tried to show this clearly in the photos. The cork on the handle is in great shape too, but the brass fitting on the bottom is detached. Sock is in poor condition, it has several holes in it. The holding tube is missing the lid and is dented.

Rebuilt Vtg South Bend 164 HDH Cross Split Bamboo Fly Rod 5 wt 3/2 9 ft. Fishing
From an estate with a LOT of NEW OLD STOCK fishing stuff.reels and rods mostly. See my other items over the next couple of days. I will combine shipping to save you money. If you buy more than 1 item I will pack them up and refund the difference on shipping. This is a fantastic 1930's 9 foot South Bend bamboo fly rod with the original case. This custom built rod has 4 pieces. 2 tips. I am 90% certain that this is a rare model 164, double built, with D or HDH line recommended. In 1934 this rod retailed for a whopping $60. During the depression. That is over $1000 in today's dollars. It appears that it was rebuilt a while ago-as I know the person who fished this. And he did not fish much since the mid 1990's.so the rebuild is probably 20 years old. He was a very wealthy man, who only wanted the best, so I imagine he paid a pretty ... morepenny to have this rod redone. It does not look like it was fished much afterwards. The rod has a nice matte finish to it. Both end tips are the same length. The bamboo has wonderful grain(see close up) and the workmanship in the rebuild is wonderful.in fact I counted 100+ functional and ornamental wraps on it. The ferrules are nice and tight and give a good pop when released. In the rebuild. The info on the rod was lost. However you can make out much of it on the deteriorating label-the weight is either a 5 or 5.5.maybe even 5.8?it is hard for me to make out. Also, I can see 64 in the model number that is still visible, and the paper is still somewhat in tact after the 4, so I would assume this was the 164 fly rod. It does not appear that a 0 was in the model number after the 164. This rare double built rod is the grand-daddy of all South Bend fly rods. It is ready to enjoy and fish.

Vintage F.E. Thomas Bangor Split Bamboo Fly Rod 8' 3/2 FREE SHIPPING
Up for sale is my F.E. Thomas Bangor rod. This rod is an 8' long 3 piece rod with 2 tip sections. Unfortunately. As you can see in the photos, one of the tips is snapped off about 1/12' from the tip top. This think this rod feels best with a 5wt DT line. I assume if you are looking at this auction you already know about this maker and this particular model. So I will skip the flowery description. I would say the rod is in very good overall condition with the exception of the broken tip top and one missing signature wrap. Hi, You are looking at a Nice& Clean Vintage Heddon 8 1/2' Split Bamboo Fly Rod. Also. Included is the original bag as seen in pics. It appears it is marked#14 as only the top parts of the numbers are visible. Perhaps. It was refurbished/reconditioned at some point. We believe this one to be a"Thorobred. Take a look at pic. You be the judge. The lock-nut has a Patent Number engraved on it. Overall. The rod is in great shape: there are no cracks, or any other noteworthy wear. We measured the rod by overlapping the beveled connection points. We didn't put it together because the slip/connection points need to be re-lubed/refinished. It appears time has dried up the lube/area. Nonetheless. The rod would make a great addition to your collection or for use, it feels strong& has a nice surface sheen to it still. South Bend 323 - 8 1/2' - 3/2 Split Bamboo Fly Rod With

This American classic is an attractive shade of caramel and is wrapped in Hunter green tipped black; the reel seat is a black skeletal down-locker over a cork filler. Rare HEDDON No.125 "Expert" 9" 3/2 Split Bamboo Fly Rod Excellent
Up for auction is a Heddon Black Beauty hand split bamboo fly rod. As you can see in the pictures it is in excellent condition. It is missing one guide as you can see in the pictures. Other than that, this rod is in excellent condition. It has 4 sections, a cloth case which is original and the original Heddon aluminum case. Rare very early 9 ft. Southbend 3/2 split bamboo fly rod
Here for your consideration is this very early and remarkably historic 9' 3/2 that was most likely built at Winchester while E. Billy Edwards was overseeing the rod operation there in 1920 or so. Cane tip case w/ brass cap& original bag all metal knurled reel seat, red intermediate& regular guides wraps throughout, half-wells grip, VG+ Exc. original varnish, truly amazing cond. bright and sparkling probably unused. So early even its stripping guide is a snake guide. Winchester supplied South Bend with rods into 1926. This rod was listed by Martin J. Keane in his catalog#83-2001. At that time he wasn't aware of the connection with Winchester. In fact inside the top of the bag are the numbers 5361 numbers were used by Winchester re branded Barney& Berry rods per Garner in his book also 7000 series rods were Armax and Barney& ... moreBerry rods(again per Gardner) so it would be reasonable to see how South Bend was given a 5000 series of rods to differentiate how the rods were finished. Ie What bamboo was acceptable to one company as a trade rod may not be so for another.

It's my pleasure to offer at auction an Extremely Nice 1951-1952 HEDDON No.8"HEDDON FLY ROD" 8-1/2 FT. 3/2"TROUT ACTION" No.2 Ferrule) SPLIT BAMBOO FLY ROD WITH THE ORIGINAL LABELED BAG& ALUMINUM TUBE. Easily, one of the nicer examples of this model that I've handled. Introduced by James Heddon's Sons in 1951, the No.8 would only sell through the 1952 season, when the Korean War Trade Embargo would effectively put an end to virtually all of Heddon's bamboo rod production. The model name was simply called the"Heddon Fly Rod" in catalogs. I've added a photo of the original listing from Heddon's 1952 edition. Heddon's Cleo Hanley has handwritten"Heddon" in straightline on one flat and"8- 8-1/2' 2F- HDH or E" on the opposite flat. The No.2 ferrule would be what ... moreHeddon termed their"Standard Trout" action, a very versatile all-around taper. The"HDH or E" was the old line weight designation equivalent to today's modern 5 or 6 wt. lines. Built with very nice browntone Tonkin cane and comes equipped with extra tip section, Perfection guides& tip tops, serrated& welted nickel silver ferrules, nickel silver winding check, plastic grip check& butt cap, screw-locking mottled brown plastic reel seat, solid cork grip and wound in gold& black variegated silk. Rod is in solid Very Fine all-original condition. Bamboo is perfect, with no splits, cracks or delamination whatsoever. All four sections are the correct equal length, with the tips having just light to moderate sets. Original varnish, rodshaft markings and wraps remain very nice and complete. All guides, tip tops, ferrules, winding check and grip check are excellent. Reel seat works perfectly, with nice hardware. The solid cork grip is superb, showing little evidence of use. Up for auction a Very Nice and Quite Desirable CIRCA 1910-1920 MONTAGUE CITY ROD CO. 9 FT. 3/2 SPLIT BAMBOO"FEATHERWEIGHT" FLY ROD WITH THE ORIGINAL WOOD FORM HOLDER. One of a series of light action"featherweight" fly rods produced by Montague City Rod Co. throughout the first quarter of the last century. Built on a 1/4" ferrule, with very delicate tips, these are really desired by Montague collectors and those who like to fish the old light action bamboo. These were built as"trade" rods by Montague and would have been supplied to endless retailers, wholesalers and jobbers across the country. Built with nicely flamed Calcutta cane and comes equipped with extra tip section, file-proof steel snake guides throughout, genuine agate tip tops, Montague's"improved" welted ferrules, flip-ring hook ... morekeeper, NPB winding check, sliding band reel seat with wood spacer, solid cork full-Wells grip and very closely wound in red and black silk, with a staggering 309 individual wraps. It's really hard to rate these older rods as to line weight, but I'd guess a 4-5 wt. line, perhaps less. Rod is in about Fine to Very Fine condition, showing moderate overall wear associated with normal use. Appears all-original, except for the butt ferrule being a Montague replacement. Bamboo is very nice, with no splits, cracks or delamination whatsoever. All four sections are the correct equal length, with one tip having a moderate set. T.H. CHUBB Rod Co. 10-1/2' 3/2 Lancewood ( Not Split Bamboo) Fly Rod w/Form Case
You are bidding on a Thomas H. Chubb 10-1/2' 3/2 Fly rod made in USA you can still faintly the star on the base of the rod above the grip. The rod appears to be in great condition to be 120 years old or most likely older. It has the low friction line guides and funnel or tube tops on the rod tips of which one is missing, each section is 43" long except for the tip with the missing top and it is 39-1/2 the way it is I guess it would be 40" with the top, the tip does not appear to have been broken but since I do not know much about these it may have been. In reading about these old rods it seems that fewer of the old wood rods survived compared to the split bamboo The sock has some issues but the form case looks great to me but I am no expert so I posted several pictures to help you make your decision. Horrocks-Ibbottson split bamboo fly rod. Based upon the logo design it was manufactured between 1929-1933. No rod series name is present on the rod. Ferrules. Reel seat and grip in original condition. The rod itself has been rewrapped and revarnished. The rod is REFURBISHED but not restored(not to original condition) The extra tip is in original condition and is missing the tip top. I had the intention of fishing with this rod but never did. Horrocks-Ibbottson Conqueror "Double-Built" 3/2 Split Bamboo Fly Rod
This rod reads"Conqueror by Horrocks-Ibbottson" on the logo which features a rooster head. The words"Double Built" are written in white script below the logo. This rod does not feature in any H-I catalogs that I know of. And was likely a rod built specifically for a single distributor by H-I. I have never found another like it. Beautiful deep-brown-colored bamboo. Ferrules. Grip, and reel seat in original condition. The rest of the rod has been rewrapped and revarnished with new guides(the stripper guide is original) It is a REFURBISHED rod and not restored(it is not original condition) The extra tip is in original condition(from when I received it) This rod does fish and has caught a number of trout and smallmouth. It works best with a 6-7 weight modern WF line.

1910-1925 MONTAGUE CITY ROD CO. 9', 3/2 Split Bamboo Fly Rod w/Form Holder, FINE
Up for auction a rather Nice 1910-1925 MONTAGUE CITY ROD CO. 9 FT. 3/2 SPLIT BAMBOO FLY ROD WITH THE FELT-COVERED WOOD FORM HOLDER. These early unmarked economy"trade" rods from Montague would have been supplied to any number of retailers, wholesalers or jobbers across the country. Although somewhat common, they are nonetheless very tough to find in this nice of condition. They were produced by Montague City Rod Co. throughout the first quarter of the last century. Built with Calcutta cane and comes equipped with extra tip section, 10) steel snake guides& steel tip tops, Montague's"improved" economy ferrules, NPB winding check, standard sliding band reel seat, solid sheet cork grip and wrapped in two colors of silk, with full intermediates. There are 86 individual wraps. Rod is in about Fine condition for these, ... morehaving been rewrapped to original, with at least one or two coats of new varnish. Ready to fish or enhance one's collection. Bamboo is perfect, with no splits, cracks or delamination whatsoever. All four sections are the correct equal length, with tips having just moderate sets, but are reasonably straight for these models. Wraps and varnish are pristine. All guides, tip tops, ferrules and winding check remain in good condition. Reel seat works perfectly. The cork grip is in superb condition, one of the nicer ones I've seen. Put up in the period felt-covered wood form holder, which remains in decent condition. A nice early package from Montague City. To be sold with a very low starting bid and NO RESERVE.
