Vintage Goodwin Granger Aristocrat 9' Fly Rod With Original Metal Tube
Up for auction is a Vintage Goodwin Granger Aristocrat 9' fly rod with original metal storage tube. The handle is marked: PAT APR.12.1938. PAT.NO.2.114.107, MADE BY GOODWIN GRANGER COMPANY DENVER. Cork handle does have some damage as shown in the images. The rod sections, eyes, and wrappings are all in very good condition. No cracks, bends, or other damage is visible. The auction includes four sections of fly rod. Canvas carry case, and metal storage tube. The metal tube has paint missing, and handling marks. There are no large or deep dents in the tube. Someone will be very LUCKY to own this rod.It has had a reel mounted on it but certainly not fished more than a few times. I have tried to show how fine the quality of this rod is in the photos.The guides,ferrules,reel seat are all original and excellent. Goodwin Granger Colorado Special 9050 Bamboo Fly Rod
Early Goodwin Granger Colorado Special 9050: 9’ 3/2, 5 ounces, 5/6 weight, excellent, restored. The Granger Colorado Specials were made for only three years, from 1927 to 1929. In 1930 both the Colorado and Denver Specials were discontinued and replaced by the Special, a rod that had darker cane and the now famous Granger green silk wraps. This model has been correctly restored in all respects with what appear to be all the original components. The nickel silver slide band reel seat is correctly marked for the period with Goodwin Granger Company/ Denver stamped into the reel seat but no rod name between the two knurled bands as was true if the least expensive of the Granger models at the time of manufacture. It has the original coke bottle grip in very good, clean condition with very slight ridging. The original ruby red silk guide wraps ... moreand the red and gold signature wrap on the butt have been replaced. The sections are straight and full length. It comes complete with the original wood tip protector and the olive drab rod bag. It was not sold with a rod tube when new. Granger collectors know that these early Granger rods rarely come to market and the rod is listed with an appropriate reserve. Shipping and insurance will be a flat $25 in the lower 48 of the U.S. International buyers should inquire about shipping costs that are likely to run between $60 and $75 for Europe, Japan or Australia.

Vintage Goodwin Granger Champion 6' bamboo spin/ cast rod. Mage by the Goodwin Granger Company of Denver. Colorado. The rod is in good original condition. Reel seat and cork do show some wear with a couple of small gouges in the cork just above the reel seat. The finish is good with some small knicks and scratches. Comes with sock and a beat up tube. Goodwin Granger Victory Bamboo Fly Rod 9' GV9050 Ready to Fish NR 3/2 Phillipson
NO RESERVE AUCTION You are bidding on a beautiful used original Goodwin Granger Victory GV9050. Beautiful rod ready to fish. This rod was produced sometime between 1935 and 1942. Nice rod. The rod casts a WF6 or DT6 fly line beautifully. All sections are equal length with exception to one tip that is short by 5.5 inches. Straight as an arrow, reel seat functions and is like new, ferrules are fantastic for their age. If you want a 9 footer to fish this is it. All the wraps look great. The cork looks and feels almost new, with some slight dirt from honest use. I tried to portray this in the pictures. Varnish is really nice. A couple small chips from use. This is one heck of a great looking rod and it is ready to fish as is. Replacement vintage aluminum tube(missing cap) and original cloth sack. The 9 foot length in my opinion is great for the ... morefisherman out there. Rather than the collectors. Let the collectors keep paying way to much for the shorter rods that don't have the length to high stick or mend the way a fisherman needs to catch fish. The shorter rods, may cast a little better, but I would be willing to bet these longer rods catch more fish, since you have the length to maneuver the fly. This auction is for an extremeley scarce 1930's antique fly fishing rod with the original tube and sock. Marked on the tube label: GRANGER SPECIAL- NUMBER 9043- LENGTH 9 FEET- WEIGHT 4 3/4 OZS. GOODWIN GRANGER CO. DENVER, COLO. marked on the rod: GRANGER SPECIAL- and marked on the reel seat: PAT. PENDING- MADE BY GOODWIN GRANGER COMPANY- DENVER. This 3 piece fly fishing rod has the original extra tip for 4 pieces total. When assembled it is perfectly straight with either tip, it has no chips or major cracks in the cork and the varnish very nice. This rod is fully functional and in Great condition and appears just barely used. Goodwin Granger Aristocrat 7' 2pc. 2tip. 3wt. Bamboo fly rod
Here is a Goodwin Granger 7ft. two piece. Two tip bamboo fly rod. Has the hammer or eliptical shaped handle that shows some very minor ridging in the cork. Reel seat is clean and works fine, chrome plated. This rod appears to have been recoated with varnish in its past but was done well. There are a few minor imperfections as can be seen in the finish, where the new coat of varnish covered an imperfection especially over the original wraps. It comes with the original cardboard tube and partial label. Serial number GA7030. The cane is in great shape and is ready to fish. The ferrules fit snug and make a pop when pulled apart. Vintage Goodwin Granger Victory Pre WWII 8' Fly Rod in Original Condition
First let me state that I am an avid fly fisherman. However. I am not an expert on vintage split bamboo rods, The rod is a Goodwin Granger Victory 3/2 in the desirable 8' length. It has a reverse half wells cork grip w/ a nickle silver up-locking reel seat patent pending. The silk threads are orange and black with black tipping. All sections are of the same length and are straight. I do not see any breaks and in my opinion the rod has never been repaired or refinished. The cloth and metal tube fit but may not be original to the rod. Please view the numerous pictures I posted as to the condition and I will reply as best I can to any questions you may have. I am starting the bidding at $100 with no reserve and no re-listing. If this rod does not sell, I will throw a 4 or 5 wt on it and fish with it next Spring.

I am selling a vintage split bamboo fly rod. On the reel seat it is stamped"Made by Goodwin Granger& Co Denver" And"Denver Special" A green"fish" decal forward of the cork handle says, Del Rell St. Paul, Minnesota" Also, just forward of the cork handle is written"Al Mudrick 842 Univ. Ave. St. Paul, Minn" Near there in the same writing are the initials"R.J. There are four(4) parts to the rod: the main reel part, which measures 38 1/2" the center part which measures 24 1/2" one tip that measures 32" and one tip that measures 35" They are all in the original cloth bag, which is in the original aluminum tube with brass ends(the tube has some storage marks) The sliding ring and reel seat appear to be nickel and silver. I don't know much about fly rods, but my research ... moreindicates that it was made in the 1920's. All parts of the rod are in excellent condition, and I can only find a few very small marks. The eyes and windings appear to be in perfect condition. To me, the rod does not appear to have been used, but if it has.very little. It is a beautiful vintage rod. This Is a vintage Goodwin Granger Bamboo Rod from Denver. I believe it is from around the 30's. This belonged to my father who is now deceased but he was born in 1918. The rod is in good condition except for the one guide that has damage and the joints where the metal slips together appear to be stuck and the rod is coming apart above and below the joints. Bamboo Casting/Spinning rod with Goodwin Granger Reel Seat
Beautiful Bamboo Casting Rod. 6 feet in length. Built with Goodwin Granger Company, Made in Denver, Reel Seat. Built by sierragv and purchased on E bay a few years ago. Rod is a medium action and in perfect condition; I fished with a few times but just don't use. Reel seat is for casting reels and is vintage so is a little tight for spinning reels; I did modify the foot of my spinning reel to lower width to use with this rod. It is a down locking/spinning retainer and has a thinner opening for the vintage reels it was designed for. Great rod for the person who appreciates bamboo and there are not many bamboo casting/spinning rods around. New guides, bamboo blanks reworked to new, all new varnish.

The rod was clearly refinished many, many years ago. Oddly, they added a hook-keeper and covered the letter'G' in the wording Granger on the rod. the G is still there(visible through the wrap- see the photo) and should look fine when the hook-keeper over-wrap is removed and the rod refinished. Slight click to the mid male ferrule. Ferrules need cleaning to seat well. No cracks or dings to ferrules. Some chips to the aging varnish. Goodwin Granger Favorite Bamboo Fly Rod 8' GF8542 cut down 8040 Ready to Fish NR
You are bidding on a unique Goodwin Granger Favorite. 8 ft, 4 oz. 3/2. 3 pieces with 2 tips. This rod was made before 1932 and the rods are not very common. Includes original cloth sack in good condition, and the original early Favorite tube, which also dates the rod, you can still make out favorite on the label but not much else. The rod casts a 4-5 weight DT modern fly line beautifully. All sections are equal length, straight as an arrow, reel seat in good shape only a couple minor dings, and the ferrules all pop when removing them. If you want a Goodwin to fish this is it. All the wraps are representative of an original wrap, while some of the black and white jasper have not turned that golden tone(which happens over the years) This is one heck of a great looking rod and it is ready to fish as is. I purchased this rod from a gentleman ... morethat thought it was an 8040. As I did until I started really looking at it. It actually appears to be an 8.5ft Granger Favorite that was at some point either broken or cut down to make it look/fish like an 8 ft rod. I have to admit I have fished with the rod, and it does feel a lot like the 8 ft taper. When I bought it I knew it was a project rod and instead of completely refinishing(since it was a cut down) I decided to just send the rod to Dennis Stone and have him do what was necessary to fish the rod for many more years. What he did was to fix a couple of the loose ferrules, put on a new cork handle(plastic is still on it) and add a dip of varnish on what needed it. I think what we have ended up with is a lean mean bamboo Frankenstein-like fishing machine. Unfortunately, I didn't get the 8040 Favorite I was hoping for and I know it is not worth what I thought it would be, however, this is your opportunity to snag a really cool bamboo rod in a unique and hard to find taper, that fishes well, and is over 80 years old. 1930's Goodwin Granger Victory Bamboo Fly Rod 8.5' GV8642 Ready to Fish
You are bidding on a fantastic Goodwin Granger Victory 8.5 ft. 4.5 oz. 3/2. 3 pieces with 2 tips. This rod was made sometime between 1933 and 1942 I believe and includes replacement rod cloth and aluminum tube in good condition, this rod would have originally come with a cardboard tube. The rod was apparently refinished by or for Hal Richards. The actual refinish looks pretty good, however, not exactly correct or identical to how it came from the factory. It was a great amateur effort. There is an extra snake guide apparently used as a hook keep near the signature. I would recommend removing that and touching up the finish with some varnish. The great news is that this is a nice looking Victory ready to fish. You can vaguely see the original print under the script that was added as part of the refinish. The additional writing may be successfully ... moreremoved to find the original script. The rod is full length with no structural problems. Everything just as it should be with nice popping ferrules. The rod casts a 4-5 weight DT modern fly line beautifully. All sections are equal length, straight as an arrow, reel seat functions and is like new(For being 80 years old) ferrules are great. Here is an awesome condition Goodwin Grainger company GC9050 5OZ 9 foot bamboo fly fishing rod. The only real condition issues I can see is a very small dent in the bottom which is in picture number two and a couple of holes in the bamboo handle that you can see in the pictures. Goodwin Granger and Heddon bamboo baitcasting rods
Up for auction. Two antique bamboo bait casting rods, one needing a lot of work and one in good condition with some varnish blemishes. The best one is the Goodwin Granger, Denver, Colo. 2-piece rod. Original stamped Granger Special name is intact on the butt, all original guides, ferrules and excellent John Landman-style screw downlocking reelseat. Fittings are nickel silver and one band on the handle is stamped with the Goodwin Granger name. Rod is 5 feet, 6 1/2 inches and comes in a non-original metal tube. The Heddon rod needs refinishing. All original guides, ferrules and reelseat parts are present, but part of the handle was chewed by a rodent and the varnish is melted down. Decal of the Heddon jumping bass is intact. A nice old Goodwin Granger champion that still has plenty of fishing left in it. 9.5 foot 3 piece 2 tips. What amazes me is that these rods(which have been cared for) are just as straight and tight as the day they rolled off the production floor. Everything on this Rod is straight and tight. Ferrules pop with no clicking. The two tips are short but who cares for this price. Nice Goodwin slide band reel seat. This would make a great bass Rod. Cork handle is slightly dirty but in great shape. It does have a thumb carve out so this one may have been custom ordered for tournament casting. Looks like a reddish varnish hue as well. Black cardboard tube and homemade pillowcase sleeve. Bidding starts a $100.

Vintage Goodwin Granger Denver. Colorado split bamboo fly rod. 9"6" in length, in very good overall condition. Has two tip sections, one working and one of which needs repair. The tip needing repair has a repairable crush(see photo) about 4" from the tip that can be repaired by"reweaving" the bamboo and replacing a missing guide. The other tip is in working order and the rest of the rod is sound. The varnish is generally good, not worn off. Markings say"PAT April 12, 1938 Made by Goodwin Granger Company Denver" The butt section Ferrule measures 18/64" and the other ferrules are 12/64" so this is probability the 9652 Goodwin Granger rod, which is the lightest of the their 9 1/2 ft models. Made in Denver. CO, pre Wright& McGill 1920/30's era. Has red agate eye on lowest guide. Overall in very good condition for it's age. No chips, splits, or cracks in wood. Clear finish coating well in tact but does show a few small marks where it is not as shiny, nothing significant and to be expected for an old used one. Has on extra tip, both show slight bends in them up near the top. Other two pieces perfectly straight. All guides present and still tightly wrapped. Seat operates with ease and cork handle a little faded from age. Other point of note is the top is missing from the hard tube, will package inside an outer PVC tube ... morefor safe shipping. Rough, and somewhat sloppy repairs(see pictures) tight-fitting ferrules, rough soldering, splits in the bamboo covered with thick varnish and windings. The Goodwin Granger comes in a canvas bag with 5 pieces. 1 main. 1 middle, 2 tips and 1 extra small piece that looks unfinished. Vintage Goodwin Granger Bamboo Fly Rod - 2 tips - Tough shape
Up for bid is a vintage bamboo Goodwin Granger fly rod. There are 4 pcs. There is no Rod sock or tube included. The butt section is in good shape with all wrappings present. At the ferrel the wrap is split. Ferrel has a slight crack in it. It is solid however on the blank. Measures 34 5/8" long. Coke bottle cork grip is perfect. Reel seat is tight with some oxidation in areas. The mid section measures 33 1/2" All the guides are intact and wraps are tight. Re-wrapped at top ferrel. Top ferrel isn't correct. First tip section measures 34 1/2" all guides/wraps are tight. This tip doesn't fit into ferrel of mid section. The second tip measures 33 1/8" lowest guide has a poor re-wrap. All others are tight. This tip fits into mid sections ferrel, although ferrel isn't correct. Overall the finish is good with some ... morechips, scratches, ect. through out.
