I believe he bought it right after WWII in the late forties(not sure of year) It has not been used for at least 50 years. It has been carefully stored in dry, warm area. Has Two Tips. Grip end appears excellent. Bamboo appears to be in excellent condition. The decals are partially rubbed off. Those are the only defects on the rod that I know of. I am not an expert. This auction is for a vintage Montigue Sunbeam 9 foot split bamboo fly rod with two tip sections and 4 section cloth case. This old fly rod is in good useable condition and could easily be completely restored. There is some wear on the decal. A crack in the male ferrule of the second section, a thread is coming loose on one of the windings on one of the tip guides and there is some corrosion on some of the guides. The cloth case has a hole in it. The rod measures one inch under 9 feet when assembled. Guaranteed old and original. Shipping is additional and will be added to the cost of the item. This 3 piece rod is 9' long and has an extra tip and comes with the original sock. It is in excellent, near mint condition with no damages or repairs and appears just very lightly used. The 3 piece rod weighs 5.3 oz. and in the sock and tube the total weight is 1 lb. 2 oz. The sock is also in fine condition with no rips or holes, just wrinkled and faded, with a tiny bit of the Montague label still present. Really beautiful rod from Montague Rods. All sections are straight and same length. No breaks or cracks. Reel seat is in great shape. Some ridges on the cork. But not bad for A vintage rod. I did full rewrap of the rod last winter using a thread technique to keep the rod looking as it should. The original thread used on this Montague Sunbeam model was an alternating dark blue/white at random intervals. Kinda cool. It needed some TLC, so I redid it as a labor of love for bamboo rods. Ready to fish with confidence. Just need to consolidate some of my stuff, or I wouldn't part with it. Posted with

The rod has 8 guides, and one does have thread that was re-wrapped(as seen in pic) Rod is most likely pre 1950. Made in the USA. Comes with rod sleeve, but I'm not positive whether its the original. Rod comes with 3 sections plus an extra tip piece. Note ALL 4 sections are correct and equal length, ALL cane sections are in good condition, NO signs breaks, damage, delams, or repairs. Comes with 4 pocket divided rod sock. Ferrules have a distinct audible“POP” when broke down between butt to mid and from mid to one of the tip sections. Other tip fits looser. Cork grip is in good condition, soiling from age, still has original label on grip but can not read very faded. Rod is straight when together, both tip sections. Varnish shows age however is in pretty good shape. 2 guide wraps have been redone, not correct coulor. This was recently acquired as seen in photos from an Estate Sale of ... morea avid Bamboo Collector. Past history unknown. VINTAGE MONTAGUE SUNBEAM FLY ROD 3 PIECE WITH EXTRA TIP PIECE! THERE ARE SOME COSMETIC FLAWS TO THIS PIECE. THE EXTRA TIP IS MISSING ONE LOOP AS SHOWN IN PICTURES. THE POLE HAS MINOR SCRAPING ETC HERE AND THERE FROM USE. THE CORK IS SHOWING SOME AGE. THE METAL PIECES ARE SHOWING SOME OXIDATION. ONE OF THE CONNECTORS HAS A CRACK IN IT BUT SHOULDN'T EFFECT USE. I TRIED TO PUT ALL OF THE PIECES TOGETHER BUT THEY WERE VERY TIGHT. I BELIEVE THEY NEED SOME LUBRICATION OR SOMETHING TO MAKE THEM FIT PROPERLY.
